Tall, Tall Mountain - Mysterious Mountainside

N64
We need to climb up the mountain, long-jump across the waterfall and go where the cloud is. Near the cloud is a piece of the mountainside that ripples like the paintings when you touch it. If we jump into the mountainside, we will find ourselves at the top of a slide. The slide music plays. I fell off once. The slide is long, and can be challenging at points. Where there are a bunch of arrows pointing to a part of the slide where it forks, go that way. The other way will end in the abyss. There are sharp turns and the slide twists so there is very little to slide on. At one point, there is a gap in the slide, so you have to be going fast enough to clear it. If you fall off, you will lose a life, but will restart at the top of the slide. There are 1-ups on the slide, including one hidden behind the right wall at the top of the slide. The slide will end at a hole, which will lead you to an otherwise unreachable alcove in the side of the mountain with the Star. Don't try to get the last of your 100 Coins here, you'll slide past the Star before you can collect it.
Star Get #93, 45 Coins, 15 Lives

Nintendo DS
The piece of mountainside is in the same location and coins lead into it to mark the way. I got a 1-up behind the right wall at the top of the slide. I made it to the end of the slide without falling off. We drop through the hole and land in the alcove, which is now caged in. The Star is there, as well.
Star Get #115, 41 Coins, 6 Lives
The next Star is Blast to the Lonely Mushroom.

Cool, Cool Mountain - Big Penguin Race

N64
When we go through the chimney, we find a penguin at the start of the slide while the slide music plays. It says "Hey-ey, Mario, buddy, how zit goin'? Step right up. You look like a fast sleddin' kind of guy. I know speed when I see it, yes siree -- I'm the world champion sledder, you know. Whaddya say? How about a race? Ready... Go/Don't go
This mission took me several tries- 28 in total. I kept falling off the slide and dying. I tried taking the secret path, but at the end, the Penguin said "Whoa, Mario, pal, you aren't trying to cheat, are you? Shortcuts aren't allowed. Now, I know that you know better. You're disqualified! Next time, play fair!" Oh, well, let's try that again.
When I finally made it, the penguin said "You brrrr-oke my record! Unbelievable! I knew that you were the coolest. Now you've proven that you're also the fastest! I can't award you a gold medal, but here, take this Star instead. You've earned it!"
What is with penguins mentioning that we deserve gold medals, but giving us Stars?
Star Get #25, 38 Coins, 4 Lives

Nintendo DS
We find the penguin at the beginning of the slide, but he doesn't greet us by name. He says "I'm the world-champion sledder!!! I may be bulky, but I'm very fast! How about a race? Ready... Go!!/ No thanks
We start the race. I beat him on my third try, but fell off the slide my first two tries. He says "You brr-oke my record! Unbelievable! I heard you were the coolest. Now you've proven that you're also the fastest! I can't give you a gold medal, but here, take this Star instead. You've earned it!" The Star appears behind him.
Star Get #29, 69 Coins, 3 Lives
The next Star is Frosty Slide for 8 Red Coins.

Cool, Cool Mountain - Slip Slidin' Away

Cool, Cool Mountain is the fourth course.
N64
We find ourselves in a room with three paintings of snowmen. We go through the middle one. When we land on this wintery floating island, we get a message: "Snow Mountain Summit Watch for slippery conditions! Please enter the cttage first." We check out the sign near the cottage which says "Santa Claus isn't the only one who can go down a chimney! Come on in -- Cabin Proprietor"
We climb in through the chimney. Inside is an enormous slide and the sliding music starts playing. We start sliding and go through the secret passageway near the first wall marked with a line of coins going into it. We hear a chime and get a 1-up on the way. We land on the ledge in the cabin at the base of the mountain. There is an item block with a 1-up on the ledge. We go out the door and the Star appears.
Star Get #23, 16 Coins, 11 Lives
I later came back to get 100 Coins. I got them by getting most of the coins on the slide, which brought me 71 coins. I warped back up the mountain and slide down the slope for the remaining coins.
Star Get #29, 103 Coins, 3 Lives

Nintendo DS
We're going to get the 100 Coin Star in this mission. We get the same message upon entering. But first, we're going to slide down the mountain first for coins. I got a couple of Red Coins and took three hits from snowmen and a Goomba. I then warped to the top of the mountain so we could enter the cabin. The sign says "Welcome to the slide! Hop on and take a ride! When sliding in Standard Mode, press Up on the (Control Pad) to accelerate. to decelerate, press Down on (Control Pad). Use the Touch Screen to turn more smoothly than the (Control Pad). The slide music starts playing and we start sliding. I fell off the slide.
Take 2- I decide to go down the slide first. I reach the end with 77 coins. I left the cabin and the Star appeared. I took a couple of hits from Goombas. I still need 100 Coins, so I warped to the top. I got the 100 Coin Star at the bottom of the mountain slide.
Star Get #26, 101 Coins, 3 Lives
I returned to the base of the mountain for the mission Star.
Star Get #27, 101 Coins, 5 Lives
The next Star is Li'l Penguin Lost.

Slipsand Galaxy - Green Star 3

Welcome Back to the Galaxy!
I thought that I'd be looking for this Star in the Sandy Sea, but it's in the first mission like the first 2. To save space, this took 4 tries. The Star is on the right side of the slide past Green Star 2, so I just slid into it. This is a Type 1 Star.
Green Star Get #70!
Star Get #190, Galaxy Complete, 5740 Star Bits, 11 Lives

Slipsand Galaxy - Green Star 2

Take 2- I took more hits from fire, but was knocked off the planet by a bomb.
Take 3- See Take 1.
Take 4- I got a 1-up, took a lot of damage, made it to the midgate, and saw the Star on the left side of the large sand slide. Unfortunately, I missed the Star and fell off the slide.
Takes 5-6 - I missed the Star and fell off.
Take 7- I finally slid into the Star. This is a Type 1 Star.

Tall Trunk Galaxy - Green Star 3

Welcome Back to the Galaxy!
When we land in the galaxy, we here the jungle music, so I'm looking for the Star somewhere in the slide mission. We talk to the Whittles, who question Luigi's bravery. I launch to the midgate, and soon figure out that the Star is somewhere on the slide. Great. I start sliding and find the Star near the end of the slide with the red Wigglers and the red spiky plants. I got a 1-up, but missed the Star and fell off. This could take a while, but at least I know where the Star is.
Take 2- I got 1-up, but took a hit from a Wiggler and a Spiny, missed the Star, and fell off.
Take 3- See Take 2.
Take 4- I got 1-up and fell off.
Take 5- I got a 1-up, hit a plant, and fell off.
Take 6- I got a 1-up and the Star. Timing your jump to the Star is crucial. This is a Type 1 Star.

Tall Trunk Galaxy - Tall Trunk's Purple Coin Slide

Welcome Back to the Galaxy!
Oh, no. After the nightmare that was Silver Stars in Double Time, I was not looking forward to collecting Purple Coins on a slide. We can't go back and get coins we missed. We land on the platform before the slide. A Gearmo tells us that he lost 140 coins on the slide, but he would be happy to get 100 of them back. A likely story, but I guess it helps move the plot along. In Galaxy, there was no explanation for the existence of Purple Coins. They were just there. Because helping is a sign of a hero, we will try to collect 100 coins. Unlike in Starshine Beach, it is impossible to collect all 140 coins due to their placement in different areas at the same distance on the slide. We'd need to be in two places at once to get them all. We get started and the slide music plays. I got 47 before falling off the slide.
Take 2- I got 72 and reached the end of the slide. There is a pink Gearmo at the bottom who tells us to keep our eye on the prize. And then we immediately die. Not nice!
Take 3- I got 40 and hit the red spiky plants before falling off.
Take 4- I took off my headphones, got 73 coins, and fell off.
Take 5- I got 84 and died from failure.
Take 6- I got 97 and died from failure. So close!
Take 7- I got 96 and died from failure.
Take 8- I got 83 and fell off.
Take 9- I got 102. We trade the coins for a Star. The Whittles say, "You hero", "Hero, hero", "Hero symbol Star". Before collecting our reward for helping and niceness, we wander behind the tree for a 1-up.
Star Get #106, Galaxy Complete!, 2570 Star Bits, 6 Lives
A Comet appears in Haunty Halls Galaxy.
I got 5 Stars in this session. Currently, I have only one more Star to go and it's a doozy.

Tall Trunk Galaxy - Tall Trunk's Big Slide

Welcome Back to the Galaxy!

We return to Tall Trunk, but a few things have changed. The music changes to that in Wild Glide before you start gliding. There are also swings hanging from the branches. The Whittles have interesting things to tell us: they are brave and protect this tree, they show courage by sliding and get a Star, the tree is sacred, we must swing hard. Two give us some very important news: a "Green Stache" got nervous and ran away. This means Weegee was here! (Luigi-that's what Baby Mario calls his younger brother.) This can also mean that the Whittles are working for Bowser-only he calls Luigi "Green Stache" and, formerly, "Greenie". I get 3-ups- 1 from the crystal and 2 from the Bonus Area. We use the swings to climb up the tree to the Launch Star and take off.

We land on a flat, grassy, fenced in planet with a midgate and more Whittles. "Slide. Never quit." "Be brave. Jump in." "Sharp red things. No touch." "We watch slide." We move to the start of the slide. There is no music here, only the sound of wind rushing by. Well, there's nothing else to do but tackle the slide. We jump in!

The music is a remix of the music used in all of the Super Mario 64 slides. But this is no ordinary slide- Mario is standing the entire time! There are also enemies along the slide-Spinies, Wigglers, and red spiky plants. I take hits from all 3, but there are coins along the slide so we can recover health. We get a 1-up, but we fell off the slide. Steering is not that easy- the slide loops upside down and to the side. In places, it goes into a mossy tunnel, where the desirable path is worn away to dirt.

Take 2- I got a 1-up, hit the Spinies twice and fell off near the red wigglers because I couldn't recover. This slide is not very forgiving.

Take 3- I fell off early trying to get Star Bits without actually steering.

Take 4- I took several hits and fell from a bad jump.

Take 5- I took many hits and fell off near the end-I couldn't recover.

Take 6- I took a hit from a Red Wiggler, which makes train whistle noises, and couldn't recover.

Take 7- I took many hits, but I made it to the end! We land on a fenced in planet with another tall tree. Behind the tree from where we land, there is a 1-up. The Whittles judge us very brave, the bravery symbol, the Star is ours. Here is the symbol of courage!

Star Get#26, 819 Star Bits, 681 Coins, 13 Lives

Interlude

We land on the base, so we brought someone back with us. Lubba says we brought back a Whittle-(not Luigi?) Lubba likes Whittles and this one has something to tell us about Comet Medals. The Whittle says if we collect many medals, a Comet arrives. There is always a Medal the 1st time in a galaxy. Look hard for them. Find.
