Welcome to the Galaxy!
Mario
We land in the galaxy and all is quiet. The place is deserted. We see the Star near the tower. We move to trigger the appearance of Cosmic Mario. Once the race starts, we long jump to the water and dive. We spin to reach the shell faster and go through all three rings for a speed boost. Unlike Cosmic Mario, we stay in the water the until we reach the stairs to the tower. We long-jump around the tower for the Star.
Star Get #71, 2729 Star Bits, 10 Lives
Luigi
This mission is much more difficult with Cosmic Luigi. When I first played Super Mario Galaxy, I had so much difficulty that I attempted to walk along the water's edge. (It didn't work). We have to long-jump to the water, dive, and grab the shell after spinning. We must go through all three rings, because Cosmic Luigi will. We long-jump to the Star and get it on our first try.
Star Get #71, 2 Coins, 307 Star Bits, 40 Lives

Gold Leaf Galaxy - Cosmic Mario / Luigi Forest Race
Welcome to the Galaxy!
Mario
We land in the galaxy and trigger the appearance of Cosmic Mario by moving. The galaxy is set up the same way as in "When It Rains, It Pours", so we have to navigate the wooden platforms and reach the Star on the circular part of wood near the tower. We run around to some blocks that replace the rain clouds so we can reach the wooden platforms. We should long jump to get ahead and reach the higher platforms, then long jump to the Star. I beat him on my third try.
Star Get #69, 2715 Star Bits, 10 Lives
Luigi
Once again, this race will be much harder than against Cosmic Mario. Cosmic Luigi long-jumps, allowing him to go faster, and you should do the same. The blocks may slow you down a bit. You should also make sure you can consistently execute long jumps instead of backflips and ground pounds, as these will slow you down at best and kill you at worst. I won on Take 13, using lots of long jumps and, because I had enough of a lead, walking down the narrow path to the Star.
Star Get #69, 3061 Star Bits, 40 Lives

Freezeflame Galaxy - Frosty Cosmic Mario/ Luigi Race
Welcome to the Galaxy!
Mario
Noelle continues as my Co-Star, but doesn't have to do much here. We land on some icy squares floating in space. Once we move, Cosmic Mario appears. We have to race him over the icy path while skating. We should also get the Ice Flowers that appear. When you run out of squares on your path, you'll have to flip to the ceiling (the camera shifts with you). Jump while on the squares with snow (you can't skate on these). This will make sure that your flip is successful. I got the Star in one attempt.
Star Get #55, 2345 Star Bits, 5 Lives
Luigi
This took me two attempts, as I fell off. Cosmic Luigi does more long-jumps here, but this isn't too bad. Be aware of moving squares and your direction. It's okay to slow down to a walk to ensure accuracy.
Star Get #55, 2925 Star Bits, 33 Lives

Honeyhive Galaxy - Honeyhive Cosmic Mario/ Luigi Race
Welcome to the Galaxy!
Mario
It's time for our first Cosmic Mario race! These missions make us race Cosmic Mario, a starry dopelganger of Mario, to the Star. When we land, the screen has a blue tinge and a remix of both the underground theme and the original theme plays. If we move, Cosmic Mario appears and challenges us. We then line up and the race starts. The Star is at the end of the path of honey. Cosmic Mario is pretty easy to beat, because he doesn't use any speed tricks. As I have played the game before, I know how to go faster- long jump. I long jump up the stretch by the fountain and move quickly into the tunnel, while Cosmic Mario is taking the low road. Touching Cosmic Mario produces Star Bits. We go down the slide and stay on the grassy patches to maintain speed. We jump to get the Star, which is floating over a pool of honey. Jump quickly to beat Cosmic Mario. Failure results in death.
Star Get #16, 1400 Star Bits, 20 Lives
Luigi
Now, for the first Cosmic Luigi race! You make think that Cosmic Mario was a pushover, but Cosmic Luigi is no joke. He runs the race more intelligently, but makes a few mistakes so you can attempt to catch up with him. You'll notice that he uses long-jumps a lot, and so should you. The Star will be in the same location. It took me 10 attempts to win this race, mostly because I kept stalling, especially when trying to execute long-jumps, as the controls are very similar to the backflip controls. What you should do is what he does for the most part: long-jump into the cave and ground pound down the hole in the stump. Wall-jump and spin up the ledge (perhaps using a backflip) and avoid the honey. Fortunately, he slows down towards the end by being stuck in the honey. Use this to your advantage.
