Paper Mario: Chapter 5 -- Hot Hot Times on Lavalava Island -- Part 2

Once Mario enters the volcano, a Piranha Plant sees him and sounds the alarm. He leaves to alert the boss. Go east at the bottom of the slope. Kolorado is here and says he senses danger. He jumps on a nearby rock that starts sinking, but he doesn't get off the rock. The lava burns him and he decides to follow Mario's lead. Jump on the rocks quickly to keep them from sinking. The large rock ahead won't sink. Wait a while and a rock will appear. Jump on it and it will take you to another rock. Equip the Ice Power badge now. There are Lava Bubbles here. They have 9 HP and 4 attack power. They can attack your party member, rendering them unable to attack. Use ice or water attacks for extra damage. They give 2 SP. Once on the other side, equip the Spiky Shield badge and go east.

There is a zipline here. You can drop off at any time by pressing (A). Doing so with good timing will allow you to reach certain things. You'll find Spike Tops in the area. They have 4 HP, 3 attack power, 4 defense power, and give 2 SP. You can flip them over to reduce their defense. Like Buzzy Beetles, fire attacks have no effect on them. Use Watt's Electro Dash to get rid of them quickly. While wandering around, use Kooper to get a POW Block. Go east and you'll find some fire bars. Past them is a Super Block. I upgraded Sushie to Ultra Rank. Return to the previous area and drop down to a Save Block. There's a zipline here as well. Drop down with good timing to reach the Fire Shield badge. Equip this one as well if you can. Drop down and go west.

You'll be in a long tunnel with gas near the ceiling. Don't worry about the gas, just follow the tunnel. Go west. Near the entrance to the tunnel is an invisible block with a Life Shroom. In the middle of the room is a river of lava. Use Parakarry to cross the river at the top. There are three blue blocks here. Push them into the river to form a bridge and staunch some of the lava's flow. Cross the bridge, drop down and cross the narrower channel of lava. Go west. There's another river of lava and two blue blocks nearby. Push the blocks into the lava so they form a line partway across the lava. Stand on the farthest block and have Parakarry carry you across. There are more Lava Bubbles here. They may be accompanied by Red Magikoopas. They have 11 HP and 3 attack power. They can also charge up their allies' attack or run away from battle. Deal with them quickly. Go up the stairs and drop down to reach a large chest. This contains the Ultra Hammer, which powers up Mario's attack and allows Mario to break metal blocks. There's a metal block nearby so you can try it out.

Go back to where the Save Block is and break the metal block so you can go east of the Save Block. Kolorado is here, saying the treasure is on the other side of the block. To the east is a zipline. Kolorado fails to use it and runs off the ledge. Take the zipline almost to the end before dropping down to find an upgrade block. I upgraded Watt. When you head back to the zipline, you'll see Kolorado flailing about on his shell. He says he's investigating the floor more closely. Take the zipline to the end to go east. A rolling spiked rock will chase you down the tunnel.

Once you exit the tunnel, cross the lava, dodge the fire bars, and go east. There's another spiky rock at the top of some stairs with metal blocks. You can't reach the metal blocks, so walk far to the right. Kolorado says that the treasure should be nearby, but they must go farther. There's a blue block here, so push it all the way back to where the metal blocks are. Use this to reach and break the metal blocks. Once all of them are gone, the spiky rock will start rolling. Run out of the way to where Kolorado is. The spiky rock will hit Kolorado before breaking a hole in the wall. Go east.

There's a Heal Block here and a Save Block below. Go due east from the Heal Block (without dropping down) and you'll find item blocks with a Super Shroom and a Maple Syrup, but no treasure. Return and save, then walk due east from the Save Block. The Piranha Plant from before appears, saying that Mario is still here and he's searching for the Star Spirit. It leaves to report to the boss. Go east to the lava pool.

The boss appears. It's Lava Piranha. He says Mario and his partners are the bad guys, here to steal the Star Spirit. Mario will get hurt before it lets that happen. Lava Piranha got to control the volcano in exchange for trapping the Star Spirit. The battle starts. Lava Piranha has 40 HP, 5 attack power and breathes fire, but slowly. It has two Lava Buds, each with 8 HP and 4 attack power. They breathe fire or seeds at Mario. They will wilt when they run out of HP, but can be regenerated. Stomp on it and use attacks like Electro Dash, Power Bounce, and Smack to deal with the Lava Piranha. You'll also want to get rid of the Lava Buds so they can't attack you. Once Lava Piranha runs out of HP, it will fall into the lava and 15 Star Points will appear. Lava Piranha will be reborn, but this time with fire, with the same amount of HP. After you get in one attack, Kolorado rushes in to save the day, but falls in the lava, saying he can't do anything more to help. This is Sushie's time to shine! If she's Ultra Rank, she gets an attack called Tidal Wave. Press the buttons that appear on screen quickly and she'll swim around and fill the battlefield with water. This will do a lot of damage to Lava Piranha and get rid of the Lava Buds. Attacking with Snowman Dolls or with the Ice Power badge equipped will make this part of the fight fairly easy. Once you defeat Lava Piranha for a second time, you'll get 30 Star Points.

After the battle, Kolorado says there's nothing between them and the treasure. He runs off to the east. The Star Spirit's card appears from the lava.

End of Chapter
Venturing deep into the steaming Mt. Lavalava, Mario and friends plucked the Lava Piranha... and rescued the fifth Star Spirit, Misstar from a fiery fate. But the "treasure" Kolorado is looking for is yet to be found. Wherever could it be? What's that...? Something... strange... is going on around here...

Back in the volcano, the ground is shaking. Misstar says they should get out of the volcano, so head east. Kolorado is complaining that he can't find the treasure. Go upstairs and Kolorado will join you. He thinks Misstar might be the treasure, or some sort of starfish. He's still looking because the adventure's not over until the treasure is found. He thinks the Lava Piranha had it, so he tries to go back, The ground starts shaking violently and he dismisses it as kids playing with fireworks. He then notices that the lava is rising. Misstar says the volcano will erupt soon, so they can't go back and must leave another way. She feels a breeze come through a crack in the wall. Use Bombette to break the wall. Go through the wall and you'll see a chest on a pillar Kolorado can't reach. He says he'll risk his life to get it. Misstar picks everyone up and takes them out of the volcano. The volcano erupts and the treasure flies out, landing in the jungle near the Bub-ulb.

Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time -- Part 8: Jumping into the Volcano

In the castle garden, the Toadsworths are once again trying to entertain Baby Peach. The Toadsworth Twist is not eliciting a response. A crosswind blows them into Baby Peach and she starts spinning in the air. Luigi wants to learn the move. Just run into the babies while Spin Jumping. It shall be called the Baby Spin. Use the Control Pad to move the babies. This will allow you to reach higher heights. The Toadsworths try rolling into a ball, but Baby Peach is still not amused. Toadsworth the Younger decides to roll over Baby Princess, despite the protests of Toadsworth the Elder. This flattens her into an amused disc. Mario wants to learn this move. Roll over the babies with the Bros. Ball. The babies will be able to reach tight spaces with low ceilings. They'll pop back to normal within a short time. This move shall be called Baby Cakes. The wind picks up and carries Baby Peach, still in disc form, into a hole on a ledge of the castle. The Toadsworths ask for assistance in getting her back, saying she's not in another castle. Baby Spin over the wall, hit the switch to lower the gate, then Baby Spin to the ledge. She's to the far right.

Once you leave the garden, there's a strong rumbling. A Toad freaks out, saying, "HE'S BACK!", and mentions Peach's room. Go upstairs to Peach's room, on the east side of the castle. Bowser's in Peach's room, at it again with another kidnapping attempt. A blob of the fungus on Peach's face buds off and hits Bowser on his face. He peels it off and eats it. He belches up purple gas in the room, which makes the bros woozy. Taking advantage of the situation, he carries Peach out onto the bridge. Toadsworth the Younger rolls in with Baby Peach's castle to stop him. Bowser dodges with a jump, but breaks the bridge when he lands, falling into a time hole below. Peach falls in as well. The time hole is on the first floor in the northwest corner. Baby Spin to the time hole.

The time hole takes you to Thwomp Volcano. The bros will appear after the babies arrive. The place is made of Thwomps. The Toads with red caps are mountaineers. They mention a scientist at the peak, and how to reach interesting things in the gaps in the walls. Baby Spin to reach the ! Block and open the path ahead. Cross the rope bridge and you'll meet new enemies called Thwacks. Their color matches who they'll attack. If it turns yellow, it attacks both bros. They can also summon more enemies. Go up the ramp and either roll over the spikes or Baby Spin to the platform above. In the next area, send the Baby Cakes into the gap and have them ride the air currents. This will keep them in disc form. Send them on the upper path to hit a ! Block to within reach. Have the bros go up the ramp and across the bridge to hit it. This opens the path ahead. Send the babies forward and reunite the bros in the area with the pipe.

Tanoombas make a reappearance here. This time, they won't be impersonating the bros. Both sets of bros should spin across the spikes. In the next area, send the Baby Cakes through the hole in the wall. The air vents lead to a ! Block that moves the yellow blocks out of the way. In the next area, you'll find Red Coconutters. If you want to reach the left side of the area, send the Baby Cakes over, under each low ledge you find to keep them in disc form. In the next area, send the Baby Cakes into the hole in the wall, then spin the gear to increase the air current. You can reach items on the clouds. The cloud on the right has a ! Block that opens the path ahead. In the following area, Baby Spin or roll across the gap to reach the other side. The next area has a pipe.

Past the pipe, send the Baby Cakes into the hole in the wall and spin the gear to increase the air current. Land on the moving cloud, jumping to the other clouds, leading to a ! Block, opening a blocked path. The next area is a little foggy, but leads to the peak. At the peak, Peach's crown is on the ground. Stuffwell thinks that she and Bowser may be in the volcano. Just then, the volcano erupts, spewing flaming Thwomps. Go east, then south, then southeast. This area has a building with a familiar shape, a couple of gears, and a pipe. The pipe leads to the area near the time hole, so you can build a bridge with the ! Block. Spin the other gear to open the door to the building.

The building's a lab and inside, there's a young scientist paying no attention to the fact that four people have just walked in, even less so the eruption. Baby Mario's threat of a hammer to the head gets his attention. He's Elvin Gadd, studying the Thwomps and history of the mountain. The bros inform him that the volcano has erupted. The flaming Thwomps rain down and start destroying the lab. A particularly large Thwomp drops in and it will explode if it is not extinguished. There's a gear in the northwest corner. Spin it to get the water running and extinguish the Thwomp. This will take several drops of water. While the babies try to put out the fire, Gadd gets inspired. Gadd in the present has his memories rearranged, getting an idea to create a large water pump. Back on Thwomp Volcano, Gadd's lab is ruined. He says there's a lab at the edge of Boo Woods, so he'll relocate to do some paranormal research. He leaves, and Gadd of the present calls via Stuffwell. He's created the Hydrogush 4000, which will stop all volcanic eruptions. He'll send the water through the time hole. It looks like a cross between F.L.U.D.D. and Gadd, but it stops the eruption. Stuffwell acknowledges the paradox of what just happened, but it gets the bros into the volcano. Heal and save, then return to the peak.

At the peak are two Thwomps. The round one is particularly enraged about the doused eruption. The rectangular one was looking forward to jumping into the fiery volcano, which is one of his hobbies. Since the bros can't bring the eruption back, they'll have to battle the round Mrs. Thwomp. After she takes about 100 HP worth of damage, she'll split into four. Each will attack the bros, raising an eyebrow to indicate the target. Counter with the hammer. Three are fakes. Use Bros. Items until she's defeated. Mr. Thwomp is upset that the bros were mean to his wife. Mario explains that they're trying to save Peach, so he agrees to help them inside the volcano. Mrs. Thwomp wants to go, but Mr. Thwomp says she's too heavy. She does not take the insult lightly and knocks him into the volcano.

Deeper inside the volcano, Bowser has found a spot for himself and Peach. He's thinking about building a second castle. Baby Bowser drops in with the exact same idea. Despite that, when they meet, they don't see eye to eye.

New Super Mario Bros. 2: 6-2

Drop down the gap with the coins to slide to the Bone Boat. It looks like the Bone Coaster from New Super Mario Bros. Wii, but is larger, slower, and floats on the lava, periodically raising its segments. Jump up to the brick blocks to get the spring instead of hitting the ? Switch, which will drop the Goombas on the boat. Use the spring to get the first Star Coin just past the Microgoombas. At the end of the ride, pick up the spring and use it to jump into the gap in the ceiling. This leads to a red pipe. Activate the Gold Ring and hit the three POW blocks when the Piranhas appear for lots of coins from the pipes above. The red pipe to the left leads to the midpoint and another Bone Boat. This time, coins will periodically arc out of the lava, as well as fireballs. As Super Mario, break the brick blocks surrounding the second Star Coin to get it. Soon after, Bob-ombs will drop in with parachutes. The lava will start to rise when the boat stops on the right side. You can get off and get some 1-ups and coins. Be sure to rejoin the boat. As it rises, on the left side you'll see the third Star Coin surrounded by stone. Use the Bob-ombs to break the stone so you can get it. The lava will stop rising when you reach the pipe to the flagpole.

Coin Total: 46,192
I completed this level after beating the final boss.

New Super Mario Bros. 2: 6-A

Time to go into the volcano! Go down the red pipe and drop down to the rocks below. The lone brick block can become a Gold Block. Once you step on the differently-colored stone, it will sink and the lava will start to rise. The first Star Coin is over the platform with the Dry Bones. Go right to the next platform and jump off it to the left to reach it. The second Star Coin is in your jumping path, between two path lines. Once you have to jump up the platforms and reach an item block between two brick blocks, make a running jump to the left. You may run into a giant Dry Bones. The third Star Coin is to the left. The item block near the giant Dry Bones has a Starman. Use it to your advantage. Keep running and jumping to the right and go through the red pipe. This will take you to the flag. The lava will rise partially, so don't worry about it.

New Super Mario Bros. 2: 6-1

This level takes place outside an erupting volcano. Volcanic rock will rain down and destroy blocks in its path. Hit the POW blocks for coins and items. The first Star Coin is high on a ledge. Go to the right, then up and left to reach it. There are Red Coins over stones that can be destroyed by the volcanic rock. Past them is the midpoint. Hop on some large rocks on the level. Hit the ? Switch to make a stone path ahead. The rock you're standing on will start sinking. The second Star Coin is encased in the stones, so let some volcanic rock destroy some of the stones. There is a gap in the stones right before the stairs. Before you reach the flagpole, drop immediately to the right of the stairs and jump to hit an invisible block with a vine. It leads to the third Star Coin and will drop you directly on top of the flagpole. Free 1-up!

Coin Total: 45,321
I found the third Star Coin after defeating the final boss.

New Super Mario Bros.: 8-8

In this level, we're outside the volcano and it's erupting. There are chunks of volcanic rock raining down, destroying all types of blocks, and setting off little blue and green enemies, who'll run after you and explode. The first Star Coin is near the start, so quickly go right to hop on the stones leading to it, before the volcanic rock makes it inaccessible. As Mini Mario, let the volcanic rock break through the stones over the mini pipe and take it to the second Star Coin. As Super Mario, breack the brick blocks surrounding the third Star Coin. After that, it's a long run on a stone path. Be quick and careful, as your path is quickly disappearing. The path leads directly to the flag.

New Super Mario Bros.: 8-6

This time, we're in the volcano, and the magma's rising. This level wraps around like 7-2, which you'll need to take advantage of to progress. Go around to the left to reach a pipe cannon to a set of stairs. Quickly go up, over, and down for the first Star Coin. Take the spin spring up, then pound the bricks to the left as Super Mario to reach the 2nd Star Coin. Keep going up and you'll find Spinies walking on platforms from the original Mario Bros. game. You can bump the Spinies from below, but you can't jump through the platforms. Go to the right side for the third Star Coin, then wrap back around. Take the pipe cannon into the center out of the volcano. You won't fall back in, so don't worry. Just go to the flag. The magma's not following you.

New Super Mario Bros.: 8-5

The scenery changes from a dark world to a volcano. We're inside the volcano at the base. There's magma below. We have to platform from dangling metal platforms and rocks that will fall into the magma soon after we step on them. Jump down and quickly go up the tilting rocks for the first Star Coin. The second Star Coin is floating over the magma near two dangling metal platforms with Koopas on them. Use a shell to get the Star Coin while the metal platform is tilted. At the end, there are several tilting rocks. Move quickly and jump high to reach the third Star Coin. The pipe to the flag is just to the right.

Melty Molten Galaxy - Red-Hot Purple Coins

Welcome to the Galaxy!
Mario
The Purple Coins here are pretty visible, but the ones that are hidden are in and along the side of the volcano, which won't erupt, under bobbing platform, and under the rock where several steam vents are. The area is under the Sling Star. Avoid the lava and get the Life Shroom. There aren't many coins. This took me two attempts.
Star Get #120, Galaxy Complete!, 4 Coins, 3188 Star Bits, 16 Lives

Luigi
The coins are in the same locations and, once again, this took me two attempts.

Melty Molten Galaxy - Lava Spire Daredevil Run

Welcome to the Galaxy!
Mario
We now begin one of my least favorite Stars. We have to reach the Star on the spire without taking damage, and there are no checkpoints. On my first playthrough, this took over 60 attempts. At that time, I collected the maximum number of Star Bits per mission: 999. Thankfully, I've improved greatly since then. Without a Co-Star, this took me three attempts. It's the same mission, but you have to be extra careful.
Star Get #99, 2942 Star Bits, 14 Lives

Luigi
This mission also took me three attempts with Luigi. As Luigi slides to a stop, I recommend jumping so he doesn't slide into anything that can hurt you.
Star Get #99, 2911 Star Bits, 34 Lives

Melty Molten Galaxy - The Sinking Lava Spire

Welcome to the Galaxy!
Mario
We land on a lava-filled planet where the Melty Molten music plays. We walk around lava pools and avoid steam vents. We jump across the lava, timing our jump to avoid the lava pillars that appear when we approach. Next are the tilting and bobbing grate platforms in the lava. We jump from the green ramp to a large rock formation. We avoid the steam vents and pound a rock to drop a rock formation so we can wall-jump, after the steam vents release some steam. At the top of the rock, we sling to the side of the volcano, then sling to the Launch Star at the mouth of the volcano. We drop down into the volcano and pound the switch for Star Bits as the lava level rises. We sling back up and launch as the volcano erupts behind us. We sling immediately and land on a clear sphere. One of the clear spheres has a hungry Luma, who wants 80 Star Bits. We don't have enough, so we move on. There are Pull Stars for us to navigate the large spheres that are like small suns and stars. We get a Life Shroom and avoid the flares. In quick succession, we launch twice. Flying over the lava, we collect the Star Bits at the lava's surface. There's a disc in the lava that we sling from to a solid lava core. We collect the Launch Star Chips, killing the fiery enemies.
We then launch to the spire, which is surrounded by a rock "fence". Leading up to the spire are rocks that tilt away into the lava. Once we land on the spire, the ground starts shaking, the "fence" falls away, and the lava starts rising. We have to climb to the top of the spire where the Star awaits. We go around to the right, waiting for the red crystal to drop. We pass boulders that roll into the lava. Pounding the stone switch makes a rock wall drop down so we can wall-jump up. We must do this quickly, as the lava keeps rising while the rock falls. We walk around to the left and wall-jump off the wood to reach the top. We break the crystal and a fire enemy pushes us into the Star.
Star Get #96, 9 Coins, 2696 Star Bits, 10 Lives

Interlude
A hungry Luma appears.

Luigi
We sling to and launch from the volcano. After getting the Life Shroom, we launch three times to the spire. We lost our Life Shroom to the lava, but got the Star.
Star Get #96, 9 Coins, 2663 Star Bits, 30 Lives

Lethal Lava Land - Inside the Volcano

This mission title is unique to the Nintendo DS. The N64 version's title is Elevator Tour in the Volcano.
We initially fell in the lava after attempting to use the shell to get some coins.
Take 2- We got some coins, but crashed into a Mr. I. We died when Bullies pushed us into the lava, but we got a couple of 1-ups while surfing.
Take 3- I decided to get the coins accessible without the shell first. We fell in the lava and took a hit from a Mr. I. The Bullies knocked me into the lava, but we made it out alive. We got all 8 Red Coins and another Blue Coin from a Mr. I. We have 95 coins when we enter the volcano. We go forward first to get the last few coins we need.
Star Get #63, 100 Coins, 5 Lives

With our health refilled, we go past where we landed. We fell into the lava and died.
Take 4- When we jump into the painting, we land back in the volcano. We go in the other direction and we find a checked platform with an updated sprite. We transfer when we reach the next one and grab the pole as soon as possible. After jumpin from the first pole, we land on a floating stone with another pole and a 1-up. At the top of the second, very long pole are stepping stones to the Star.
The next Star is Flaming Silver Stars.
Star Get #64, 3 Coins, 5 Lives

Lethal Lava Land - Hot-Foot-It Into the Volcano

N64
We finally climb into the volcano! After jumping across the lava from the start, near the first Bully we encounter, we walk to the right across tilting platforms and over to the stone circling the volcano. The platform will stop spinning periodically and the volcano will erupt. We can climb onto the volcano and dive in safely when the platform is circling.
Inside the volcano, the same music plays. We find ourselves in a large, circular, lava-filled cavern with lava falling like a waterfall. We have to jump rock to rock to reach the wall. The rest of the way spirals around the edge of the volcano. We must be careful not to fall, because there is no guarantee that we will land somewhere where we can recover. About part of the way up, there is a part of the wall that will fall down on us if we are not quick and careful. It has a slight line to it. Towards the top, we have to jump up stairs of rock. They are floating individually, so we have to be precise in our jumps. There will be flames spewing from the walls. Towards the end, we have to negotiate some poles. I missed the third pole and fortunately fell to the start. Once we get past the poles, we will find the Star on what looks like an altar.
Star Get #55, 21 Coins, 4 Lives

Nintendo DS
We approached the volcano, but fell into the lava trying to reach the spinning platform. We also were hit by a flame from the eruption, but made it into the volcano. We don't have to do as much rock-hopping as in the N64 version. We make it past the falling wall. We narrowly negotiated the rock stairs. We reach the poles and get a 1-up from the first one. There are only two poles this time, which is one of the ways that the Nintendo DS version is easier than the N64 version. We get the Star after the second pole, still on what looks to be an altar.
Star Get #62, 22 Coins, 5 Lives
The next Star is Inside the Volcano.

Shiverburn Galaxy - Green Star 1

Welcome Back to the Galaxy!
This is an interesting Star. I went through and froze the planet. I took a hit from the laser before getting a Life Shroom and a 1-up. I hear the Star nearby and see it in the volcano. You need to freeze the planet because the volcano is erupting when you start. I long jumped to the volcano and made clouds to reach it. This is a Type 1 Star. Be careful, the volcano top is small, so you can't move too far on it.
Green Star Get #77!
Star Get #197, 5994 Star Bits, 2418 Coins, 20 Lives

New Super Mario Bros. Wii: 8-6 -- Hot Foot It Into the Volcano

This is a level that takes place inside a volcano preparing to erupt. There is a similar level in New Super Mario Bros. I got a Helishroom and fly to get the 1st Star Coin. As the magma keeps rising, I lost my Helishroom to a Koopa and reach the midgate. I got another Helishroom as well as a 1-up Mushroom. I failed to fly after jumping off the chain I was holding onto and fell into the magma and died.

Take 2- I got a Super Shroom, which I lost to a Koopa. I died from a Podoboo.

I went back to World 6 for items and lives. I got 8 net lives and lots of Super Shrooms. I also got a Fire Flower, a Mini Shroom, and a Helishroom.

Take3- I had to start the level over. I got the 2nd Star Coin and a Helishroom. I also got a 1-up Shroom, 100-coin 1-up, the 3rd Star Coin, and a 1-up at the goal.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii: 8-1 -- Pele is Angry

This level is very similar to one in World 8 of the prequel. The volcanoes in the background periodically erupt, raining flaming rocks down on the level. The flaming rock can take out anything but the solid rock that the level is made of, including solid white blocks, item blocks, and brick blocks. As if that weren't enough, there are lava pillars that will temporarily block your path. The only enemies are Buzzy Beetles, and to add insult to injury, the only powerups in the item blocks are Fire Flowers, and Buzzy Beetles are fireproof.

Take 1- I got a Fire Flower, but lost it to the flaming rock. I lost the Super Shroom to a lava pillar and fell in the lava.

Take 2- I got a Super Shroom. There are unstable platforms that will tilt and tip over into the lava. Over these, coins will suddenly fly into place, which is a startling distraction. I lose 2 Super Shrooms to Buzzy Beetles and died from a flaming rock.

Take 3- I got a Super Shroom, a 100-c0in 1-up, and a Fire Flower. I used a tilting metallic mushroom platform to get over a lava pillar. I lost the Fire Flower to another lava pillar. I got the first Star Coin and reached the midgate. Under a ledge I see a POW Block and some blocks over the lava. I recognize this as a place to hide a Star Coin in the sky, so I use the POW Block and coins, including the 2nd Star Coin rain down. I fell in the lava.

Take 4- I got a Super Shroom and the 2nd Star Coin. I lost the Super Shroom to a lava pillar, but go up the green pipe and reach the goal.
