After the Final Battle

N64
We get the large Power Star. It becomes a Wing Cap and Mario circles the arena, until he falls from the sky, lands in front of the castle bridge, and the Wing Cap fades. The large Power Star flies up to the stain glass window of Peach and she appears, in her original pink dress, hands over her heart, eyes closed, and hair down. (If we look closely, we can see Yoshi on the roof.) She lands on the bridge, between two Toads. Mario runs up to her and takes off his hat. She wakes up and says "Mario! The Power of the Stars is restored to the castle... and it's all thanks to you! Thank you, Mario! We have to do something special for you." She kisses him on the nose and he nods, putting his cap back on, with a "Here we go!" Peach says, "Listen, everybody! Let's bake a delicious cake... for Mario." Peach and the Toads walk to the castle, while Mario lingers, looking at the sky. Peach calls "Mario!" and he goes inside. The credits roll, showing places we've been and friends and enemies we've met. At the end, we see a cake with Mario and Peach figurines surrounded by a tea setting. A bar of chocolate on the cake says "THANK YOU"
THE END

The cannon outside the castle is now open. We launch to the roof, where we find three 1-ups and Yoshi, who says "Mario!!! It that really you??? It has been so long since our last adventure! They told me that I might see you if I waited here, but I'd just about given up hope! It is true? have you really beaten Bowser? And restored the Stars to the castle? And saved the Princess? I knew you could do it! Nwo I have a very special message for you. "Thanks for playing Super Mario 64! This is the end of the game, but not the end of the fun. We want you to keep playing, so we ahve a little something for you. We hope that you like it! Enjoy!!!" The Super Mario 64 Team"
We get 99 Lives. Yoshi jumps off the roof with a sparkly Triple Jump. We get a new Triple Jump as well.

If we go back into Cool, Cool, Mountain's Big Penguin Race, we find the penguin much larger than we last saw him. He says, "What's up, pal? I haven't been on the slide lately, so I'm out of shape. Still, I'm always up for a good race... Especially against an old sleddin' buddy! Whaddya say? Ready...set... Go!/ No thanks" He is faster and obscures the track. He says the same thing when you win as earlier.

Nintendo DS
We get the large Power Star. It becomes a Wing Cap and Mario flies around the arena. He falls from the sky, and lands in front of the castle bridge, next to Yoshi, Luigi, and Wario. The Wing Cap's power fades. The large Power Star appears (as well as some twinkling on the Touch Screen). The camera focuses on the stain-glass window of Peach. She appears from the window, hair in a ponytail. Stars appear on the Touch Screen. She floats gently down to the bridge, eyes closed, hands clasped. She is wearing her updated dress. Yoshi runs up to her and stands beside her. Mario walks up to her and takes off his hat. Luigi and Wario walk up. The Stars on the Touch Screen move in a circle. Peach wakes up and says "Oh! Yoshi! The Power of the Stars is restored to the castle... and it's all thanks to you! Thank you all! We have to do something special for you!" She kisses Mario on the nose, he nods, and puts his cap back on, saying "Here we go!" Peach says, "Listen... Let's bake a delicious cake... ...for my heroes!" All of them walk into the castle, except Yoshi, who lingers to look at the sky. Peach calls to him "Yoshi!" and he goes inside the castle.

The credits roll, showing us where we've been. All of the courses and some of the enemies and friends we've met. On the Touch Screen, we see a cake, which is slowly decorated through the credits. All of the characters you've unlocked will appear as figurines on the cake. Yoshi, Mario, Wario, Luigi, and Peach stand on the cake. All the characters wave goodbye from the bridge and Lakitu flies off. We then see the cake with some tea settings. The cake has a bar of chocolate that says "THANK YOU".
THE END

The cannon outside the castle will now be open. If we go on the roof, we'll find three 1-ups and a Power Flower or Wing Cap.

Over the Rainbows - 8 Red Coins and Secret Star

This mission is based off of the N64 mission Mario Wings Over the Rainbow.
To the left of Tick Tock Clock is the window with hole to this Secret Star. We need to be Mario for these missions so we can use the Wing Cap. The first Red Coin is on the cloud we start on. We follow a rainbow to the next Red Coin on the cloud below the higher gray cloud. Next we fly to a lower cloud with a tree and a black brick block. I dove too low and hit a platform, causing me to fall. We land in the moat, unharmed.
Take 2- I got the first Red Coin. Then, I flew to the cloud under the cloud with the poles for another Red Coin. Next was the larger pink platform to get the Bob-omb Buddy to open the cannon and get another Red Coin. I got a 1-up at the top of the pole. I used the cannon and got the Red Coin on the cloud with the tree because I missed the other cannon. I used the lower cannon to reach the higher cannon. The 5th and 6th Red Coins I got were on top of the cloud with poles. The next Red Coin was on the other cloud near the lower cannon. The last Red Coin was under one of the poles. The Star appeared on the cloud we started on. There are no Red coins in gray clouds.
Star Get #136, 24 Coins, 7 Lives

We jump back in for the other Secret Star. As you may have noticed, there is a black brick block on a cloud and Wario's cap on the platform with the lower cannon. As Mario, we fly down to the lower cannon and pick up Wario's Cap. We use the cannon to reach the cloud with the tree, aiming so that only a little of the cloud is below the viewing screen so we'll hit the tree. We break the brick block for the Star.
Star Get #137, 2 Coins, 7 Lives

Wing Mario Over the Rainbow - 8 Red Coins

This mission is unique to the N64.
To the left of Tick Tock Clock is a window with a hole. It will lead you to a frustrating Red Coin mission. Mario lands in the clouds and must do some serious cloud-hopping to get all 8 Red Coins. Fortunately, he gets the Wing Cap and some cannons. Failing into the void results in Mario dropping into the moat outside the castle, not taking any damage or losing a life. The slide music plays. This took me 25 attempts. A good strategy is to keep recharging your Wing Cap. The first Red Coin is on the cloud you land on. Get the Wing Cap and fly to the nearby translucent gray cloud for another Red Coin. You can't land on this cloud, so aim well. You might be able to circle back around to get it. Then land on the larger and lower of two pink platforms. There, ask the Bob-omb Buddy to open the cannon. There's a Red Coin there, as well. We use the higher cannon to fly over the cloud with the poles hanging from it, as there are two Red Coins there. We used a cannon again to reach the poles to get another Red Coin. Follow the rainbows to the remaining clouds with coins. The Star appears on the cloud you started on, so take a cannon there.
Star Get #112, 24 Coins, 18 Lives

Tall, Tall Mountain - 5 Secrets of the Mountain

This mission is unique to the Nintendo DS.
I mentioned coins in the sky when I got 100 Coins on this course. The coins in the sky are arranged in rings, just like in Mario Wings to the Sky. To reach the top of the mountain faster, I decided to chase Hoo out of the tree near where we started. He took us to the top of the mountain quickly. I got the Wing Cap and started flying to get the coins in the center of the rings. I got two on my first pass and decided to recharge the Wing Cap. I got the last three on my second pass. You can get them in any order. The Star appears on the peak.
Star Get #118, 8 Coins, 5 Lives

Shifting Sand Land - Free Flying for 8 Red Coins

N64
All of the Red Coins in this course are outside the pyramid. Four are scattered throughout the course and the other four are between the pillars, high in the air. This took me four tries because of the quicksand. The first Red Coin is just behind where you land, in a corner between the instant death quicksand at the edge of the course and a large sand dune. You may need to continuously adjust the camera angle so you don't walk into the quicksand. You'll find the 2nd Red Coin on the lower level of the stone pavilion, on the side closest to the Tox Box maze. It's hidden in a block. The third is in the Tox Box Maze to the left, and a little towards the back. You'll see it once you get past the first Tox Box. The fourth is in the oasis. You need the Wing Cap to get the other four. Take your time and use as many Wing Caps as you need. The Star appears on top of the stone pavilion.
Star Get #65, 22 Coins, 3 Lives

Nintendo DS
You need to Mario for this mission. We can't complete Tox Box Switch Star just yet, so we'll move on to this mission. All of the Red Coins are in the same location as the N64 version. The Star is on top of the stone pavilion. This took me one try.
Star Get #72, 19 Coins, 4 Lives
The next Star is Board Bowser's Sub.

Shifting Sand Land - Stand Tall on the Four Pillars

N64
For this mission, we have to stand on top of each of the four pillars surrounding the pyramid. On my first try, I landed on two, but fell in the quicksand.
Take 2- To reach all of the pillars, we need the Wing Cap. Three of them can be reached by walking, but the fourth is in the instant-death quicksand in the Tox Box maze. We only need to stand on each pillar briefly before going to the next one. After we've stood on all four, the top of the pyramid spins off and explodes. We hear the chime. We walked up the path around the pyramid to the top, but you can use the Wing Cap to fly there. There is a hole in the top, so we go in.
We land in a cage that lowers to a red brick area in the center of the pyramid. We could see this cage when we got the Star from Inside the Ancient Pyramid. Do not jump out of the cage because there is no way to access the brick without it. Inside the red brick is a hole. If we walk slowly and stare down the hole, we can see the area within. It looks like a temple surrounded by an abyss. We go down to the temple area and step on the stairs. They shake and move, revealing that they are the stone hands called Eyerock. They say "Who... walk... here? Who... break... seal? Wake... ancient... ones? We no like light... Rrrrummbbble... We no like... intruders! Now battle... ...hand... ...to... ...hand!" Eyerock moves and the battle music starts. In the lower part of the palm is an eye, which is its weak point. We have to punch the eye when it is open. Which eye is open will alternate. After a while, the hands will try to pound you or slide you off the altar. They knocked me off, after getting in several hits.
Take 3- We land back in the descending cage. We awaken Eyerock again and hit each eye three times. Eyerock says "Grrrrumbbble! What... happen? We... crushed like pebble. You so strong! You rule ancient pyramid! For today... Now, take Star of Power. We.. sleep... darkness."
The Star appears on the stone. The Hazy Maze Cave music plays.
Star Get #64, 0 Coins, 5 Lives

Nintendo DS
We land in Shifting Sand Land and triple-jump onto the stone pavilion to get the Power Flower with the Wing Cap. We landed on all four pillars with ease and watched the top spin off. By that time, the Wing Cap ran out. Unfortunately, the cyclone picked us up and dropped us off on the side of the pyramid, so we slid into the instant-death quicksand.
Take 2- We stood on all four pillars and had enough power in the Wing Cap to fly to the top of the pyramid. We fell into the hole and onto the descending cage. There was a brick in the red brick that we broke for a chime. We can still see the altar below. We step on the stairs, which reveal themselves to be Eyerock. They give the same speech as in the N64 (with fewer ellipses). They still alternate with eye is open. We took out the right hand first, then the left before it could push us off the altar. Eyerock gives the same speech after both hands explode. The Star appears on the stone. The Hazy Maze Cave music plays.
Star Get #71, 4 Coins, 3 Lives
The next Star is Free Flying for 8 Red Coins.

Shifting Sand Land - Shining Atop the Pyramid

N64
This is a simple mission to complete. After landing, we triple jumped to the top of the stone pavilion. Up there is a Wing Cap. We took off and flew to the pyramid. Near the top is an alcove with the Star. Alternatively, you can walk to the pyramid and walk around the pyramid up to the alcove.
Star Get #61, 0 Coins, 20 Lives

Nintendo DS
For the reason above, you will want to be Mario for this mission. We backflipped onto the stone pavilion and got the feather. We flew to the alcove with ease and got the Star.
Star Get #68, 2 Coins, 4 Lives

Lethal Lava Land - Red Hot Log Rolling

N64
There is an easy way to do this and a hard way. After falling in the lava looking for the way to the log in the first three takes, I found a simpler way to reach the Star. I long-jumped back from where we land and found a Wing Cap block. We use the Wing Cap to fly forward, past the start, to a large grate wall. We fly around it and see the log. We ran out of power and fell into the lava.
Take 5- We used the Wing Cap to fly to the log. Instead of log-rolling, we landed on the platform before the log, triple-jumped, and flew to the Star. You can log roll and risk falling in the lava if you want, but this is easier.
Star Get #54, 0 Coins, 4 Lives

Nintendo DS
As the method in the N64 version works on the DS, you may want to do this mission as Mario. We can get the ability to fly on the rock behind the start. We flew around the grate and landed on the stone ramp to the log, took off again and aimed directly for the Star, straight ahead. Easy.
Star Get #61, 0 Coins, 4 Lives
The next Star is Hot-Foot-It Into the Volcano.

? Switch - 8 Red Coins

This is a mission unique to the Nintendo DS.
Now that we've saved Mario, it's time to use him to get more Power Stars. Some of them will require Mario to be powered up, so let's unlock the first power-up. We stand in the light and look over his shoulder into the light. We find ourselves wearing the Wing Cap in what looks to be the Wing Cap Course, but the message we get tells a different story: "Welcome to the ? Switches of Rainbow Tower! Step on the ?Switch at the top, inside the rainbow ring. When you trigger the switch, all of the ? Blocks you find will become solid. You'll have to hit them to see what's inside!" So, there's no instruction on how to use the Wing Cap. Oh, well. The Red Coins are in the same place and Mario is easier to control here. I get all 8 Red Coins without difficulty. The Star appears on the center tower. If you miss any of them, the Bob-omb Buddy says "Hello! Please take a look at the map below. Memorized it? If you are lost, please talk to me again." When you talk to him after getting them all, he says "Awesome! You've collected all 8 red coins... You don't look it, but you sure are a quick learner. There's nothing left for me to help you with. But I'm always up for a pleasant chat. We get the Star before hitting the switch, forgetting that it will take us out of the course.
Star Get #17, 27 Coins, 4 Lives
We go back into the course, as the light is still shining. We pound the ground to land on the tower, taking fall damage. We step on the switch, stars fly out, and we hear a chime. We get the message: "You stepped on the ? Switch. The ? Blocks have become solid. Hit them to see what comes out. Do you want to save? Yes/No
The clear block near the switch is now a solid red item block so we can get another Feather out of it if we would like to fly some more. We walk off the tower to fall back into the castle, where the light is gone. Let's continue the adventure!
The next Star is Mario Wings to the Sky.

Bob-omb Battlefield - Mario Wings to the Sky

N64
Now that we can fly, it's time to tackle this mission. I also got 100 coins here by getting Red Coins, a Blue Coin from a Koopa, and coins from Goombas and Bob-ombs. I also got a 1-up from the flower patch surrounded by coins. After I had several, I went to the highest usable cannon and blasted to the floating iale. I got the Wing Cap and hopped into the cannon on the island. From the cannon, we can see a ring of coins with a coin in the center. If we aim directly for the middle coin, we will get it, revealing a number with a special chime. This is a secret coin, which will produce a number when we discover it. There are 5 secrets total. If we aim for the first one, the updraft will take you to remaining 4 secret coins in the middle of four coin rings. You don't even have to steer. The Star appears, but I don't get it immediately, because we don't yet have 100 coins. I get more coins from the coin rings (the secret coins count as Yellow Coins), which is a little hard due to steering, the wind, and the fact that the coins will only appear when you get close to them. After I got 100 coins, a Star appeared, and I got it first.
Star Get #13, 100 Coins, 5 Lives
After I got the 100 Coin Star, I got the Star from the secret coins. You won't leave the course if you get the 100 Coin Star.
Star Get #14, 100 Coins, 7 Lives

Nintend DS
When we land in the battlefield, there are red item blocks available for our use. We attempted to get 100 Coins. The posts near the Red Coin blue Star produced 5 coins each. We took a hit from 4 Goombas, the Chomp, 2 Bob-omb and a metal ball. I got a 1-up from the flower patch and another under the bridgeto the mountain. When I reached the cannon to the floating island, I had 85 coins. Once on the island, there was a sign saying "When Mario gets Wings from a ? Block, he'll be able to fly. Perform a triple jump to take off. In Standard Mode, once Mario's in the air, press the (Control Pad) Down to ascend and press it Up to descend. Press (R) to stop flying." At least they don't make assumptions about our knowledge of planes.
We get the Wing Cap, which appears as a feather instead of a cap. we get a message: "With Wings on his cap, Mario can take to the skies! Triple jump to take off and crouch to land. In Standard Mode, press the (Control Pad) Up to descend and Down to ascend. Ready for takeoff? We jump into the cannon and aim for the center coin. Unlike the N64 version, we only get the first two secret coins this way. We collect coins from the rings, as well as the secret coins after a couple of passes and recharges. I got the 100 Coin Star first.
Star Get #18, 100 Coins, 6 Lives
After I get the 5th secret coin, the Star appears on the battlefield near the four posts where the Red Coin Star will appear.
Star Get #19, 105 Coins, 8 Lives
Now that we have Mario, the Toads will give us different messages.
The next Star we will cover is Find the 8 Red Coins.

Wing Cap Course - 8 Red Coins

N64
After we get 10 Stars, we find a light shining down in the foyer on the sun on the floor near the entrance to the castle. We zoom in for a close-up look and look up to where the light is coming from. This transports us into the Wing Cap Course! We see Mario wearing a cap with wings in the air where four towers stand. One of my favorite remixes of the Starman theme plays. We get the following message: "Welcome to the Wing Cap Course! Step on the red switch at the top of the tower, in the center of the rainbow ring. When you trigger the switch, all of the red blocks you find will become solid. Try out the Wing Cap! Do the Triple Jump to take off and press Z to land. Pull back on the Control Stick to go up and push forward to nose down, just as you would when flying an airplane."

I love how they assume you know how to fly a plane and how that works. You could just fly down to the tower in the center where the switch is, but there's a Star here, too. There are 8 Red Coins surrounded by coin rings in the air. Just follow the path of coins to get them. This is easier said than done. I tried to get the Red Coins, but I missed some and dropped out of the sky 4 times. The Wing Cap doesn't really allow you to gain altitude, so you are slowly descending. If you miss one of the first 6 coins while trying to get all 8, just start over. You won't be able to reach them again. If you fall, you just land in the moat near the castle without losing a life. Just go back into the castle and try again. On my fifth try, I got 7 Red Coins, but missed the last one on the lowest ring. I steered for the center tower and tripped the Red Switch. I got the message: "You've stepped on the Wing Cap Switch. Wearing the Wing Cap, you can soar through the sky. Now Wing Caps will pop out of all the red blocks you find. Would you like to Save? Yes/No"

The Slide music starts playing after the Wing Cap runs out. I hit the red block near the switch, look for the lowest coin ring, triple jumped and got the 8th Red Coin. The Star appeared over the center tower. As we land back in the foyer, we are told that this is one of the castle's secret Stars.
Star Get #11, 24 Coins, 4 Lives
