Mario, Peach, and Bowser had scaled the tree and defeated Dimentio. The exhausted heroes were relieved to finally see the ivory towers of Fort Francis. Was Tippi safe? Was the next Pure Heart really waiting for them ahead? Their only answers were the strange voices carried on the wind from inside the fort...
Outside Fort Francis, Bowser asks if this is where the dweeb Francis lives and what his castle has over his. Peach is worried about Tippi. Inside the fort, Tippi is being held in a cage and Francis is photographing her. He calls her "hi-technical" and says she's an undiscovered digibutterfly species. He must document her and tells her to shake her thorax. Tippi calls to Mario. The digibutter.nerr forum will be jealous when he posts the pictures.
The door to Fort Francis is locked. The sign says no entry into Fort Francis unless you're a super genius or a hot girl. Flip and you'll see a pipe hidden behind a small wall. Pick up a block with Thoreau and hit the switch with it to get a Fort Key. Use it to unlock the door. On the inside is a Save Block and another door. I will now you the fast way to get through the fort. Flip in this hallway. There's a space between the door and the wall so you can go behind the door. There's a pipe back here. Go through it to the fort's basement. Flip to find flip blocks near the long row of spikes. Use these to reach a ledge so you can go over the spikes. Check out the writing on the wall. It says, "For room on right: 2323. For room on left: 2828." Keep that in mind. On the other side of the spikes is a cage with a Pixl. Pound the nearby switch with Thudley to open the cage. The funky music starts playing. The Pixl thanks them for freeing her. She's been shut in the cage forever and wants to repay the heroes. First, it wants to see if they are on the same page as her. She asks what their first impression of Francis was: greenish/ nerdy/ awesome. Next, she asks if anything else about him caught their eye. He's: a photo fanatic/ into butterflies/ irresistible. Finally, she asks what they think about him. He's a: monster/ tech geek/ stallion. Regardless of what answers you pick, she'll agree with you, even if you call Francis an "awesome, irresistible stallion". She says they'll work together perfectly and joins. This is Carrie. She folds up into a box and allows the heroes to move around faster and cross spikes and other hazards safely. Go left over the spikes and back through the pipe.
Go through the door and you'll find some of Francis's Meowmaids, robotic servants that ensure Francis enjoys a relatively stress-free fanboy lifestyle. They remove commercial breaks from his television shows, organize his comics, tell him when various items on his wish list can be purchased, and secure the fort. There's a cat-shaped door in the middle of the room. Look through the keyholes and you'll see Francis photographing Tippi. Go through the door on the right. Flip to find some gray stairs leading up. At the top of the stairs is a Surprisemeow, that shoots Meowbombs. Flip to avoid them and go through the door.
The door leads to a room where there are two doors hanging from the wall. Pound the ground underneath them with Thudley to make them drop. These are the left and right rooms the note in the basement speak of. If you did this the normal way, you can only go through the left door and make any progress. Once you have Carrie, both doors are at your disposal. Go through the left door and flip to find a gray platform. Stand on it, then jump and hover with Peach to the right. Flip to find stairs and a door. There are robots here called Airmeows. They will dive-bomb you. Pick one up with Thoreau and use it to hit the switch. A large bridge will appear to another tower. Go through the door on the other side and you'll find a Securimeow. It guards the door to a private room and has True/False security questions to verify identity. All of the questions should be answered True:
1. Videogame soundtracks are totally hi-technical.
2. Episode 127 of "The Grodus Chronicles" is pretty much the schweetest thing ever.
3. One day, I will own all of the "Starship X-Naut" Series 3 collectible action figures.
After this, enter the passcode 2828. If you get it wrong, a trapdoor will open and you'll fall into a room where there is a Chomp and a block to use to hit a switch. Stand on the switch as well to make a pipe appear. When you go through the door, you'll see part of Francis's collection, which includes many things related to Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door and some from Paper Mario. There's a Bigmeow patrolling the room. Bounce off of it to reach the chest on the shelf. It contains a Fort Key. The item block contains a Mushroom.
Go through the right door and use Carrie to cross the spikes. The door at the end leads to another Securimeow. It has more security questions that must be answered "True".
1. Starship X-Nauts comics are never to be removed from their plastic sleeves.
2. Role-playing games should be no less than 180 hours long, not counting sidequests.
3. Fanny packs are both practical and stylish.
Enter the code 2323 and the door to the elevator to the secret lair opens. There's a Super Shroom in the item block and more collectibles in the room. Jump off the Bigmeow to reach the chest with another Fort Key.
Return downstairs and save. Place the keys in the cat-door's keyholes, then switch to Peach. Check out the door and it says only Francis and hot girls are allowed inside the room. Being Bowser or Mario when this happens will make the door shoot lasers when this happens. The door will ask questions to check Peach's compatibility with Francis before letting her through. They should all be answered "True".
1. Videogames and hot babes are totally hi-technical.
2. If it's limited edition, buy it!
3. I have bought games that I have never played.
4. If it's got fierce giant robot on giant robot combat, it's an insta-buy!
5. They're NOT DOLLS, they're ACTION FIGURES WITH REAL FIRE-PUNCHING ACTION!
6. I have dumped a friend over an argument about Starship X-Naut propulsion technology.
7. A schweet cover illustration is way more important than the storyline.
8. Never pull the top copy from a pile of comics. Find the mint-condition one.
9. My first love was an anime character.
10. I love going on message boards and complaining about games I've never played.
After that, the door opens. Francis is startled, asking who is sneaking into his room and why. Peach says she's been looking all over for him. Francis starts freaking out that there's a hot girl in the room, which is, somehow, "hi-technical". He's too excited and he's started sweating. He can't talk to girls, so he gets out his laptop from his fanny pack and boots up "swoon.exe" and activates the "Nerr2Babe" interface mod with real-time wooing.
The interface boots up and Francis welcomes Peach to his castle. Peach is confused. He says he boots up the interface when it's time to talk to the ladies and it's time for the program to work its magic. He first asks her name. Any of the options work. His passion levels up. He looks at her, complimenting her on being cute like a princess from an anime or videogame. Her feistiness adds to her charm. Pick an option, and his passion will level up, and possibly his ego. He decides to give her a Pink Princess signed poster. Again, select an option that looks interesting. Francis starts talking about the future, saying they are destined to be together and get married. After choosing a selection, Peach asks who's choosing the answers for her, as she's not marrying this dork. She shouldn't be having this conversation in the first place and is here to save Tippi. Francis sifts through the program's options, not finding a Tippi command. Peach has had enough and uses Boomer. Francis calls out in despair about his graphics card. He says that was the only known copy of the Nerr2Babe patch, which is now gone forever. He probably should've made a copy or backed it up. He says real girls are scary.
Tippi notices Peach. She was worried and asks if she's here to save her. Francis understands now that Peach raided his fortress to steal Francine, but he won't let her. (He came up with the name on his own.) He thought it was weird that she could talk, but the forum's reaction was that she was hi-technical. She's also his only offline friend. The cage lowers and Francis says they'll feel the wrath of the jilted X-Naut in the season finale of "The Grodus Chronicles". Feel free to switch characters. As a chameleon, Francis can appear and disappear at will. He'll quickly disappear after launching an attack, so listen for him to appear and attack quickly. He'll use the bright flash of his camera to blind them temporarily and disappear. He'll shoot out his tongue to pick up the hero, then spit them out. He'll also pull out his laptop to summon Meowbombs from the ceiling, so be careful. They will explode after a short while. Once you defeat him, he'll cry and run out of the room.
Tippi is freed from the cage and thanks the heroes for coming to her rescue. She's happy and starts glowing. A green Pure Heart appears from her. They wonder how that happened. Peach thinks Tippi's heart burst with happiness and released a Pure Heart. The heroes take it and the Pixls dance.
End Of Chapter
The fourth Pure Heart appeared in a dazzling flash of mysterious light. What made it appear? The group was puzzled by this and many other riddles. "...So you're not hurt?" asked Tippi, full of concern. Somehow, Tippi seemed different than before. She had started to change. Mario simply shook his head and started the long journey back to Flipside...

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door -- Chapter 7: Mario Shoots The Moon -- Part 2
Mario has just landed on the moon. The moon is spherical, so you can go either east or west to find the building on the map. Mario walks more slowly, but jumps much higher here. There are cracked rocks scattered about. Have Bobbery blow them up for items. There are also Moon Clefts here. They have 6 HP, 5 attack, and 5 defense. Have Bobbery flip them over with an explosion to reduce their defense to zero. After a while, you'll come across the building on the map. There are Z-Yux here. They have 7 HP and 4 attack. The Mini-Z-Yux will protect the Z-Yux and can restore its HP. There's a Star Piece behind a rock on the left side. On the left side is a large cracked rock. Blow it up to reveal a pipe to the background and go through it to reach the building.
Mario's ally calls the building suspicious. Go up the ramp and through the door. A couple of X-Nauts spot and recognize Mario and battle him. They are Elite X-Nauts, with 10 HP, 5 attack, and 1 defense. They can boost their power and size. After the battle, they run off. Mario's ally thinks that the Crystal Star and Peach are here, as this is the X-Naut Fortress. Go east and you'll find more Elite X-Nauts. Go east and memorize the path of the tiles that glow differently than the others. You must only step on the tiles that glow or you'll be shocked, take damage, and sent back to the start. The glowing tiles will all look the same after a while. Go 2 tiles north, 3 east, 5 south, 4 east, and 1 north to reach a chest with the Elevator Key. The tiles will deactivate and be safe to walk on.
Go back west and use the Elevator Key to activate the elevator. This will take you between level 1 and sublevels 1 and 2. Go to sublevel 2. You'll find X-Naut PhDs here. They have 9 HP and 4 attack and throw many potions with many effects, such as burning and confusion. They can also drink their potions to make themselves dodgy or transparent, or heal themselves. Go through the west door to find another tile puzzle. Go 2 tiles south, 3 west, 1 north, 1 west, 4 north, 3 west, 4 south, 1 west, 1 south, 3 west, and 1 north to reach a chest with the Card Key. In the main hallway, go through the middle left back door. There's a large computer bank with a red button. Hit the button and stand in the glowing chamber. This will warp you to a smaller room. Go outside and you'll find yourself in the ruins under Rogueport. Mario's ally says this is how the X-Nauts reached them from the moon. You can use it to go between Rogueport and the moon if you need more supplies. Warp back. There's a Cog on top of the computer bank, but you can't reach it.
Go through the middle right back door to reach a room with an open air vent. Spring Jump up it into the space above the room and walk to the far left to get a Star Piece. Go through the vent on the left that's closest to the open vent by flipping to land on top of the computer running the transport module. Use Koops to get the Cog. The vent next to it leads to the chemistry lab, but there's not much there. Go through the back door on the far right to reach the changing room. Read the memos to find out what the passcode is and the order of activating switches (left, right, middle). If you drop down into the changing room from the grate in the ceiling, you'll end up in a changing room. When you come out, Mario and all of his allies will be 8-bit.
Go up to sublevel 1 and go through the west door. Stick the Cog in the machine and hit the left red switch, then the right, then middle. This will turn on the crane. First, hold (A) to make the crane move as far to the left as you want, then hold (B) to move it back. Once you let go of the button, the next step will happen. After holding (B), the crane descends to pick up an item. You can get a few coins, a Star Piece, and the Feeling Fine and Feeling Fine P badges. Go to the east door and enter the passcode. The door unlocks and you'll see a Thwomp statue. Check it out and it will ask if Mario's here to get the Elevator Key with access to the computer room. Mario must beat him in a challenge, or his life is his.
It's the 66th Annual Quirk Quiz. Get 5 questions correct to win. Get 3 wrong and you lose.
1. Exactly what's hidden here? Elevator Key
2. What is the name of the girl in Petalburg who's patiently waiting for Koop's return? Koopie Koo
3. How many feet total do the following enemies have: Goomba, Lava Bubble, Buzzy Beetle, and Boo? 6
4. Where was the only diamond Crystal Star? Hooktail's belly
5. What is the name of Glitzville Arena's very first champion? Prince Mush
The Thwomp is so mad it lost it can't see straight. It gives you the Elevator Key
Go back down to sublevel 2 and go through the east door. This is the room where Grodus frequently sends out orders. There's an X-Yux here, which protects extra-important areas. It was designed to be unbeatable, but it isn't. It has 10 HP, 3 attack, and 1 defense. It can deploy 2 Mini-X-Yux to protect it and it can immobilize its opponents. Go through the east door to Grodus's office, where there's a Card Key on his desk. Go back in to the main hallway and activate the other elevator.
Take this elevator down to sublevel 3. Go through the west door, where there is yet another tile maze. You can only stand on the glowing tiles, which move around. Just stand on the middle of the three tiles and follow the trail around and around to the chest, which contains a Card Key. Go through the east door to reach an area with 3 card readers. Use the three Card Keys to unlock the door (there's no particular order).
Go east and you'll find a room with many moving platforms and pipes. After you beat the X-Naut PhD, toss Bobbery over the fence to hit the switch. This will get the conveyor belt behind the fence moving. Flip sideways to reach the conveyor belt and hide in the shadows with Vivian to get pass the metal wall. Hop up on the rising platform to reach the top of the metal scaffold. Take the platform to the pipe on the left, which takes you to the background. Use the moving platforms to reach an Ultra Mushroom. Go back right and drop down on the cogs. Go to the far right and then go up to reach a pipe back to the foreground. There's an airplane panel nearby. Fly to the left to reach a Card Key. Drop down and you'll find a Heal Block and a Save Block. Go through the low green pipe to go back to where you started. Go back to the airplane panel and drop down to the moving platform. There's a switch to right which reveals stairs to the door. Go up the stairs after healing and saving, then unlock the door with the Key Card.
Go east and Lord Crump is there, saying he's been waiting for Mario, and he hates waiting. His genius plan was to lure Mario here with his Crystal Star to he could take the other ones that Mario has. Peach isn't in the fortress anymore, but he won't tell Mario where she is or what the plan is, as that is novice-villain stuff. He will, however, show off Magnus Von Grapple 2.0, a larger robot with the bugs worked out and many improvements. It has 70 HP, 6 attack, and 2 defense. It can drill from above and release its flying fists, with 5 HP, 9 attack, and 0 defense. Get rid of them immediately. It can also throw a metal shield at him and do other attacks. When Magnus Von Grapple 2.0 is low in HP, it will inhale some audience members and rapidly fire them, so guard repeatedly and keep yourself healed. Power Bounce and Love Slap work well. You'll get about 30 SP when it is defeated and explodes. Crump calls Grodus before being blasted into space. The Crystal Star appears, giving Mario the new attack, Supernova.
End Of Chapter
The last Crystal star had been hidden in the X-Naut hideout on the moon... But by the time Mario recovered it, Peach had already been taken away... Where could Peach be now? And what of the elusive Grodus? Perhaps he holds the key to the remaining puzzle... Mario finally has all seven Crystal Stars... Where will they lead him next?

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door -- Interlude After Chapter 6 -- Part 1
In the X-Naut Fortress, Grodus berates an X-Naut because the Shadow Sirens and Doopliss feel for the fake Crystal Star, calling it asinine. The X-Naut apologizes and says it's possible that Mario got the real one. Grodus says this mustached menace has nearly every Crystal Star. They were his. He says he'll alter is plan a bit. The X-Naut whispers something important to Grodus, which makes him declare treason.
Peach is in her room, thinking TEC should have called her in by now. The door opens. Go to TEC's room and TEC says it has reached a conclusion. It struggled with whether to obey orders or speak to her, but can't confirm what it should believe. Peach says TEC doesn't sound right. TEC tells her to escape immediately. The data it analyzed detailed Grodus's plan, including why she's being held captive. TEC explains the plan and Peach doesn't believe it. Peach says she doesn't know where she is. TEC discloses that she is currently on the moon. She can't believe that either and asks how she can escape. TEC says she must follow its instructions exactly. Peach asks if anyone will find out that it helped her and if it will get in trouble. TEC calls that inconsequential; all that matters is her safety. As the base's computer, no one will know if it keeps quiet. It tells her not to worry. Before she leaves, Peach types out a message to Mario. While she's typing, the door opens and someone says to stop.
Grodus and two X-Nauts walk in. Grodus knows TEC is a traitor, but didn't think his own computer would betray him. He says the treason ends here as he will cut the circuit and delete the programs and data causing the malfunction, including all data relating to Peach. This is to ensure that nothing like this happens again. TEC claims that it is normal. The X-Nauts shut down TEC by pressing the red buttons on either side of the monitor simultaneously. TEC sends Peach's mail and slowly says it loves her. The deletion is complete and TEC is no longer with them. Peach calls Grodus an inhuman beast. He says there's no time to worry about the computer as he has important things for her to do.
In Rogueport, Bowser scares off some residents. He's in a grumpy mood because he can't find Peach and doesn't have any Crystal Stars. His time in Twilight Town wasn't glorious, either. He wonders what's going on. If this keeps up, Mario will steal everything from his grasp as usual. Kammy Koopa appears, saying the Magikoopa scouts found a suspicious underground chamber that isn't on the maps. Things seem to be turning around for Bowser. She says the Hammer Bros. battalion are attempting to breach the chamber, but it is impenetrable. He says he's Bowser and he'll blast through it. They leave, and Luigi walks in, wondering what's up.
Bowser enters a side-scrolling castle-like level. There are fire bars and pools of lava. There are also X-Nauts, some of which will throw harmful potions at him. Spring up and reach the flagpole. Bowser enters a gym. Kammy cheers him on, saying nothing stood in his way and calling him super. Bowser says he felt at home, but he doesn't know where they are. Kammy spots a Crystal Star on a champion's belt on the wall, along with pictures of the Glitz Pit. Kammy and Bowser are told to freeze, by Rawk Hawk. He says he's famous and asks if they forgot his hugeness and muscles. He says Bowser cleared his secret training facility. He imported super-freaks to increase the difficulty level, so Bowser had to be good to clear it. Rawk Hawk says the champion's belt is his. Bowser calls him a weakling. Rawk Hawk tries to sliding kick Bowser, but Bowser jumps to dodge, and he ends up kicking Kammy into the wall. Bowser lands on Rawk Hawk, flattening him. Rawk Hawk and Kammy are in pain. Bowser says he knew he was a weakling. The Crystal Star falls off the champion's belt and breaks. Kammy says it's made of glass, meaning it's fake. Rawk Hawk says that Gonzales has the real one and that his hair aches. Bowser doesn't know a Gonzales and asks who he has to flatten to get a Crystal Star, stomping his foot.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door -- Interlude After Chapter 5 -- Part 1
In the X-Naut Fortress, Grodus tells Lord Crump he screwed up again. Crump says he thought he had Mario cornered. Grodus tells him to stand by until he sends his next order, which will be his last chance. Grodus tells an X-Naut to tell the Shadow Sirens to attack Mario and not fail him. He says he has one Crystal Star while Mario has five, so he must take some measures.
Peach is moody as she walks into TEC's room. TEC makes a noise, then requests that Peach do something more dangerous. She must sneak into Grodus's room and look for a Data Disk because TEC can't view data of computers not linked to the network. Grodus has information TEC doesn't, but must know. Peach will not wear a disguise this time because only Grodus can enter his room and there are guards outside when he's away. TEC doesn't want to make her do this, but has no one else to ask.
Take the elevator up and go to the room with the green light to the left. This the chemistry lab. She has to concoct a transparency potion here with the four potions. First, Peach must place the potions in their correct spots in the Concoctinator. Read the memos for the clues and from left to right, place the red, blue, orange, and green potions in their spots in the machine on the back wall. The cooking music plays. Next, hit the button on the left side. Follow the beaker through the machine and press the button of the machine when the beaker stops over its spot to add it. The beaker will move back and forth, so keep up with it. Once it's done, it moves to the right into a heating chamber. Press the button after 30 seconds have passed, so keep a clock handy. TEC tells Peach to drink the potion, even though it smells funky. It works on her, but not her dress, crown, or earrings. She is hesitant to remove them, but does, appearing only as a shadow somehow.
Leave the chemistry lab and walk to the far right, creeping out an X-Naut in the process. Go through the door, then another to enter Grodus's room. His room has a large aquarium, a shelf with disks, and a computer. Check out the shelf to find the Data Disk and take it to the computer. Insert the disk and Peach will connect the computer to the network so TEC can look at it. Put it back on the shelf and return to the chemistry lab. TEC got the desired data and tells her to drink the green potion to become normal again. Back in TEC's room, TEC informs her that the data is heavily encrypted, so she'll be informed once the data is analyzed. Peach uses the communicator and is sent to her room. TEC thanks her and she says TEC is welcome. After she leaves, TEC says it will protect her.
Lord Crump is wandering around Twilight Town. Bowser and Kammy Koopa walk in. Bowser is spooked by the dim light of the town. Kammy tells him that there's treasure here. Crump says that Beldam lost the Superbombomb around here, and after looking a while, finds it. He'll use it to crush Mario and get the Crystal Stars. He has the luck of the moon with him. The mention of Crystal Stars gets Kammy's attention and she calls out to him. Crump calls Bowser "Turtle Boy" and demands Bowser tell him everything he knows about the Crystal Stars so they can help him. Bowser informs him that things are the other way around. Crump isn't afraid of Bowser and summons his X-Naut troops. Kammy does the same, summoning the Koopa Clan. At a standoff, Crump tosses the Superbombomb at Bowser, which hits him in the nose. It falls to the ground without exploding. Bowser says he'll show them how to do things and breathes fire on the Superbombomb. The Superbombomb goes off just after Bowser realizes his mistake.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door -- Chapter 5: The Key to Pirates -- Part 3
Mario has reached Cortez's ship in the Pirate's Grotto. Go inside the ship and there's more groaning. The warnings have been ignored. If Mario goes through the next door, he will be lost in darkness. Go inside anyway. On the other side of the door is a room full of treasure. A skull appears and decides to stop groaning, because pirates don't do that. He's a cold-blooded villain who robs innocent people of their lives and loot. He thinks Mario's after his treasure and will use his mustache as a bone polisher.
In battle, Cortez has 20 HP, 4 attack, and 1 defense. His low health may not seem like much, but he can come back multiple times after his health drops to zero because he's a spirit. He has many attacks and can charge his attack power to 8. Keep attacking and you'll eventually defeat him. He holds four weapons he can use to attack. Once his HP drops to zero, he'll change his form slightly. There's a pile of bones you can hit with a ground-based attack to do damage if he's out of reach. When his HP reaches zero again, he'll change forms. He'll be a floating skull and his weapons will float in the air with him. The weapons have 4 HP each and have their own way of attacking. The sword can attack one target twice, the sabre hits one target once, the hook hits one target with a chance of poison, and the rapier his both targets. Cortez will bite one target. All of them will attack on Cortez's turn, so try to defeat the weapons temporarily with an attack that hits all targets. When his HP is low, Cortez says he can't take much more of this, so he'll do something special, showing the true might of his spirit form. He'll inhale the spirits of half the audience, who disappears. This will restore his health. Drop his HP to zero and you'll win and get about 30 SP.
Cortez panics about his treasure and shrinks, saying he's done for. He comes back, saying he's an enduring spirit tied to his treasure. Mario can't hurt him. He says guarding his treasure is boring. Mario explains he's not interested in Cortez's treasure and just wants the Crystal Star. Cortez can bring himself to part with it, as he didn't like it anyway. Mario's Star Power increases and he gets the move Sweet Feast.
End of Chapter
Cortez, scourge of the seas... Mario soundly defeated this fearful spirit and claimed the Crystal Star. Perhaps the peaceful citizens of the world no longer need fear Cortez and his fell ship... The only problem remaining is how Mario will escape this isolated island... And could there be another problem still, hiding beneath our hero's nose?
Cortez opens the back window in his ship, sending them on their way if they don't need anything. Flavio writes in his diary that he heard the treasure has been discovered. Mario is kicked out the back window. Heal and save, then go west. The Toads say that they felt something like an earthquake while Mario was gone. They want help to get out of the area now that Cortez has been defeated. When the ground shook, the back wall cracked and a Toad feels a breeze coming through the crack. Have Bobbery blow up the wall to reveal a hole. The Toads, Frankie, and Francesca leave, saying they'll never forget him. Go through the hole in the wall and it leads to beach, near Whacka.
Walk towards the camp and Flavio asks how the expedition went. He's upset when Mario tells him he left the treasure, but says that's what he likes about Mario. The Toad that came in search of his brother is reunited with him, but everyone realizes that they're stranded. Suddenly, shots fire. An X-Naut ship is firing cannonballs at the island. Standing on the cannon is Four-Eyes, thanking Mario for getting the Crystal Star for him. He reveals his true identity to be Lord Crump. He wants the Crystal Star and subjects the water in front of the beach to cannonade. Flavio thinks Lord Crump was a pirate and decides to flee. They can't do anything without a ship, so he suggests Mario take him to Cortez so they can use his unstoppable ship.
Go back to Cortez and Flavio stammers, pleading his case. Cortez asks why he'd lend his ship, which is not for pleasure cruises. After the situation is explained, Cortez explains that the ship is magical and can't move right now, because the Skull Gem which powers it is missing. Flavio reveals it and Cortez gets upset because Flavio's ancestors stole it from him and calls him a strutting peacock. He says Flavio is brave or foolish to ask for a deal. Flavio threatens to have Mario defeat him again and he'll throw the Skull Gem into the sea. Cortez agrees and Flavio touts his negotiation skills. Cortez was annoyed by the cannon fire anyway. His ship, the Black Skull, will sail again. Go outside and you'll find everyone else on board. Cortez announces that this will be the first time the Black Skull has set sail in a millennium. The Embers come along.
Outside, Lord Crump boasts that he has ammo to spare. Cortez says he has some nerve firing cannons without his permission. The Black Skull breaks through the rock and the ships circle each other. Crump says he'll sink Cortez's ship. The Embers and X-Nauts battle. Flavio tells Mario to battle Lord Crump.
In battle is a group of X-Nauts with 6 HP. Lord Crump has 30 HP and 3 attack. His attacks are normal, but he also commands the X-Nauts, which are a force to be reckoned with, when Crump is around. Defeat him and they'll give up. They'll flood the stage after a few turns, but keep your focus on Crump, as he can send in more of them. The X-Nauts can hang from the rafters and shake down forks. Once Crump's health drops to zero, he'll run offstage to heal and return with more X-Nauts. The many X-Nauts will form a ball and roll over both Mario and his partner. Drop his HP to zero again and you'll get around 20 SP. He hates losing and needs to think of a new excuse for Grodus. He leaves and everyone congratulates Mario.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door -- Interlude After Chapter 4 -- Part 2
In Twilight town, Mayor Dour can't believe everyone was fooled by the fake Mario. He asks if Mario's feelings are hurt. Vivian says they need to return to Rogueport. Go through the pipe to the underground ruins and you'll get Peach's email. She informs Mario that the legendary treasure is a demon's spirit that the X-Nauts plan to revive and use to conquer the world. She says the Crystal Stars both unlock and seal the demon and Mario can't let the X-Nauts get them.
In Rogueport, go to the inn to find Luigi and a Spike Top with a wrench instead of a spike. Luigi says that he heard a loud noise when he landed on Circuit Break Island because they race karts there almost daily. Getting first place means the winner gets to rule the island as king for that day. He went to the track during the awards ceremony and the first place trophy had compass piece on it. Luigi decided to enter the next race and figured he'd do well because he's been in so many kart races. He was wrong. The karts were supercharged and armed with missiles and bazookas and anything goes in the races. He wanted to leave, but signed up anyway. He got one of the best karts, the Big Green 01, and, at the start of the race, hit the accelerator, but the kart was in reverse. He crashed into the wall and dropped into last place. Fortunately, all of the other karts crashed because of him, so once he got in gear and took off, he was the only kart racing. He won easily and took the compass piece off of the trophy. It pointed east to Jazzafrazz Town. He could hear Princess Éclair's voice again and was determined to save her. He got back on his boat and returned to Rogueport. The Spike Top, Torque says Luigi's not telling the whole story. Torque lent him his rig because Luigi begged on his knees, but the Big Green 01 was totaled early in the race. He won't leave Luigi's side until Luigi repays the 5,000-coin repair costs.
There are three new troubles in the Trouble Center.
Zess T. wants the legendary cookbook that's located in a scary place. Go to her house and she'll tell you there was a legendary chef named Maitre Delish. He wrote a cookbook that will instantly make whoever reads it a better chef. Unfortunately, it's hard to find and the stores don't carry it. She heard someone who lived in Creepy Steeple had a copy and it's probably in a secret room. If you didn't pick it up during Chapter 4, there's a low gap in the back wall to the right of the entrance. Roll through the gap to reach the room where it is. Give it to her and she'll be excited. She'll cook a Mushroom with a Honey Syrup to create a Honey Shroom. She can now cook with two ingredients now. The Honey Shroom is your reward.
Mayor Dour wants the Silver Club Newsletter Routing Slip delivered to the Puni elder. Go to his house in Twilight Town to pick it up. He can't deliver it due to his bad hip. Go back through the pipe to the underground ruins, then go east. Roll under the fallen column near Dazzle and go east, then proceed to the blue pipe to the Great Tree. Give the routing slip to the Puni elder and she'll want it sent to Mayor Kroop of Petalburg. Go back through the blue pipe and go through the blue pipe nearby to Petalburg. Mayor Kroop will want it sent back to Mayor Dour, who'll give you the reward of 30 coins. Apparently, they use the Silver Club Newsletter to trade longevity secrets.
An anonymous poster is after an elusive badge and will meet you on the roof of Zess T.'s house. Go through the door on the second floor of the inn to reach it. On the roof is Ms. Mowz, who can't find an elusive badge. She says it's in Hooktail Castle in the room where Hooktail was and you must use the power of wind to find it. Go to Hooktail's room and have Flurrie blow away a panel in the center of the room, revealing a chest. It contains the Attack FX B badge. Take it back to Ms. Mowz and she'll ask that Mario hear her out without getting mad. She hid the badge there as a game. She apologizes and thinks Mario may have better badge-finding skills than her. She decides to travel with him so she can find lots of badges. Mario's reward is the badge he found. Ms. Mowz kisses him and joins the party. Press (X) and she'll sniff to see if there are hidden objects or items in the area. She can attack with Love Slap or steal items enemies carry with Kiss Thief. Walk back a little on the roof for a Star Piece.
Go back to the underground ruins and go through the grates near the pipe that leads to the Thousand-Year Door and the Boggly Woods. The room has spikes that appear from the ground. Walk quickly, then hide in the shadows with Vivian. Walk around to find a chest with the Spiky Shield badge. Equip it to jump on spiked enemies without taking damage. Go to the Thousand-Year Door and the map will be marked with an island and the sapphire Crystal Star.
Professor Frankly is surprised by Peach's email, but says the X-Naut's plan is consistent with what he's found in his research. He says it's a long story and he breaks the fourth wall by saying that everyone must pay attention. His research indicates that the great cataclysm may be the demon that destroyed the large town that was once where Rogueport now sits. The Crystal Stars were created by the monster, and it used them to try to control the world. The demon was defeated by four heroes, but only its physical form was destroyed. Its spirit still exists. The heroes stole the Crystal Stars and used them to cast the demon into the depths of a vast maze and seal the exit. The Crystal Stars can't distinguish good from evil, which explains why Mr. Grubba and Doopliss were able to use them to do terrible things. Whoever wields the Crystal Stars determines whether the demon will be resurrected or sealed when they are united. Mario's partner says it may be wrong to collect them, as the demon could be resurrected if someone stole the Crystal Stars from them. They suggest destroying them. Frankly says they can't destroy the Crystal Stars because the Thousand-Year Door may be weakening. The Crystal Stars can only seal the demon away for 1000 years, but the power fails after those years have passed. Unfortunately, this may be the 1000th year. This may be a coincidence as to why the X-Nauts want the Crystal Stars now. Mario and his party must be ready for the demon's return, even if the X-Nauts fail in their plan. Mario's partner says they must find the others. Frankly says the next one is in Keelhaul Key. He's not familiar with the area, but he's heard many bad rumors of vengeful spirits and evil curses. He says to ask around the port.
Go the port and you'll see a large, magnificent ship docked. Talk to the dockhands and they'll freak out at the mere mention of Keelhaul Key. They say there's a legendary treasure of the pirate king, Cortez, but all those who go in search of it never return. They also say that the large ship belongs to the rich trader, Flavio. He's at the bar in the inn. Talk to him and he wonders what he's lacking in his life, considering he's so rich. He agrees with every answer, saying he needs more thrills, emotion, romance, and money. He's heard of Cortez's treasure and wants to hunt for it. He also has heard it's hidden on Keelhaul Key and that no one who sought it returned. It is said Cortez's ghost attacks all who seek it. Mario mention's Rogueport's treasure, but Flavio tells him there's no such thing. Mario mentions the map and shows him. Flavio thinks Mario will steal Cortez's treasure from him, but Mario says he's only looking for the Crystal Stars. Flavio thinks a star-shaped stone was part of the hoard of treasure and briefly considers selling it. He agrees to go with Mario and will give him the Crystal Star if he can keep the rest of the treasure. He then realizes Mario doesn't have a ship. Flavio has one and declares himself the leader of the expedition. He names Mario as the captain. He takes the red skull at his table and leaves for the port.
Follow him to the port and hop aboard. He's already assembled quite the crew, including a Toad wanting to set up his own shop on a deserted island, a Toad wanting more out of life, and a Toad looking for his brother, who never returned from seeking the treasure. There's a familiar-looking guy at the bow, named Four-Eyes. Flavio describes how magnificent this ship, the S.S. Flavion, is, the best ship in his fleet. There is a slight problem: their navigator ran off and they need someone to steer. A sailor mentions that Admiral Bobbery is the only sailor who can manage the rough seas near Keelhaul Key, but he hasn't been seen in a while. Flavio says Captain Mario will find him. Talk to the dockhands and they'll say that he lives on the east side of town, just east of the wall. He also spent a lot of time at the inn's bar, run by Podley.
Go to his house and you'll find it locked. Talk to Podley and he'll tell you that Bobbery should probably be left alone. Go back to Bobbery's house, then cross the gap to the right using Yoshi. Cross in front of the bridge, then climb up the crates onto the roof. Drop down the other side to reach a Shine Sprite. Get back on the roof and cross using Yoshi to the roof of the Trouble Center. Walk to the left to Bobbery's roof, then walk behind the chimney for a Star Piece. Walk towards the back to the red roof for another Shine Sprite. Go back to Bobbery's roof and roll up into a tube to go through the chimney into his house. Bobbery, an older Bob-omb, denies being Bobbery. Mario's partner tells him they know who he is and explain that they need a navigator. Bobbery says he won't sail ever again and unlocks his door to let them out. Return to Podley to find out what's up. Podley says Bobbery's tale is a sad one. Listen to him and he'll say that Bobbery had a wife named Scarlette. Bobbery was away sailing a lot, but they were both faithful to each other. One icy winter, she turned ill while he was at sea. When he returned, she had already died. He blamed himself and was tormented by his thoughts. He never returned to the sea. Podley asks if Mario really needs Bobbery to set sail once again. Mario says yes and Podley gives him the Old Letter, the letter Scarlette wrote on her deathbed, one Podley could never bring himself to deliver. He never read the letter. Give the letter to Bobbery, which says that Bobbery gave her lots of joy and he should never lose his life's love. He is one with the sea. Bobbery goes into the backroom, saying he still loves her and he was happy. He agrees to help. Go into the backroom for a Shine Sprite. Leave his house and Bobbery will head for the port.
Before going to the port, I went to Merlon's to upgrade Vivian. When you've made all arrangements, talk to Flavio to set sail into the next chapter. There's an X-Naut hiding in the port, saying the infiltration of X-Naut Black was successful.
In Rogueport, go to the inn to find Luigi and a Spike Top with a wrench instead of a spike. Luigi says that he heard a loud noise when he landed on Circuit Break Island because they race karts there almost daily.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door -- Interlude After Chapter 4 -- Part 1
In the X-Naut fortress, an X-Naut reports that the sealing power of the Thousand-Year Door is weakening. Grodus wants the legendary treasure behind the door, the ancient power of darkness. He tells the X-Nauts to make the search for the Crystal Stars their top priority, as well as eliminating Mario. Grodus looks forward to having the power that slept for a millennium so he can throw the world into the depths of terror. He'll build a new world by, about, and for him and he won't be stopped.
In her room, Peach wonders what she'll do today. TEC summons her, feeling conflicted. TEC asks her which is more important: carrying out an order or protecting an important or special person. TEC currently exists for the purpose of one person, but wishes to exist for another's and doesn't know what to do. TEC tells her to disregard its comments, saying it feels unpleasant if it makes her worry. Instead, TEC offers her a quiz. If she can answer five questions correctly, she can use the communicator.
1. What happens if the seven Crystal Stars are collected? The Thousand-Year Door opens
2. What is the goal of Grodus? To conquer the world
3. What is the legendary treasure behind the Thousand-Year Door? A 1,000 year-old demon's soul
4. What does Grodus wish to do with the ancient demon's soul? Bring the demon back to life
5. What is required to seal the demon again? Crystal Stars
Peach freaks out at the answers. TEC allows her to use the communicator. Peach asks if it was okay for TEC to tell her all that because TEC can't tell her directly. TEC tells her to send her message. After the message is sent, TEC sends her to her room. She thanks TEC, but still thinks it's weird.
Bowser and Kammy Koopa are in Rogueport, on the west side. Kammy reports of a great secret in Glitzville and wants to take the blimp. She asks for blimp tickets for a Koopa King and one sweet young thing and the ticket-taking Cheep-Cheep freaks out, calling her deluded. The ticket-taker runs off, with Kammy calling him a Cheep-skate. Bowser appears in his Clown Copter, saying he's been to Glitzville before, so he knows the way. He takes off, leaving her spinning. She falls off her broom and is left to take the blimp. She says her Special Dirigible Deluxe Brown Bag Kammy Lunch will go to waste. Bowser flies off for Glitzville, but smoke starts spewing from the copter. It stops working and he falls into the water.
It's time for an underwater side-scrolling adventure. Swim with (A) and breathe fire on Bloopers and X-Nauts. Spring to reach the pipe that takes you out of the water and knock over the flagpole. Bowser gets out of the water at Rogueport's port, saying he has to get in shape and that the experience was terrible. A Bob-omb at the port freaks out and the Toads run and hide. Kammy Koopa flies in with balloons and a Rawk Hawk headband. She asks where he was because she had fun in Glitzville. She enjoyed the fights and hot dogs. This cheeriness is too much for Bowser, so he breathes fire on her parade. He tells her he did not have fun and that he swallowed a Blooper while swimming. He wants information on Peach and the Crystal Stars.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door -- Interlude After Chapter 3 -- Part 1
In the X-Naut fortress, Grodus asks what good is Beldam, because Mario has not been taken care of. Beldam explains that Mario was tougher prey than they originally thought. Grodus informs her that the X-Nauts must open the Thousand-Year Door first. Beldam promises to finish Mario off next time. They have a weapon prepared that will send Mario to a quick and certain end. Grodus trusts her words, but is losing patience.
In her room, Peach yawns with boredom. The X-Nauts haven't come back to ask her about the map, so she wonders if it is safe. TEC opens the door, so go east twice. Peach asks TEC why she was called in without warning. TEC wants her to ask Grodus something, as it recently got information that brought an issue to its attention. Peach asks why TEC doesn't know and it says it can't know anything not entered into its CPU or is otherwise recorded. Peach thinks she'll be caught and sent to her room. TEC tells her to find the soldier's room one floor up and grants her access to use the elevator. She is to change into an X-Naut uniform and talk to Grodus. TEC informs her that it won't take "no" for an answer and what information it desires.
Go east and take the elevator up one floor. Wait until the coast is clear and go through the door with the green light to the soldier's locker room. Check out the middle right locker for a spare uniform and go into the changing stalls. Peach says the uniform is tight and smelly. You can talk to the other X-Nauts, but they don't have much to say. Go east to find Grodus. Peach asks about the plans for herself. Grodus notices something different in the X-Nauts voice and offers a throat lozenge. Grodus says Peach is to be kept locked in her room, but never treated roughly. Peach asks why she is being kept, but Grodus tells the disguised princess it is none of her business. The X-Nauts should concentrate on the legendary treasure, which they'll need for world-conquering. Peach is startled and Grodus thinks something is odd. Peach tells him nothing is out of the ordinary and leaves. Go back to the locker room and Peach will change back into her dress. She's creeped out by what she learned and wonders if the Crystal Stars are related.
Peach returns to TEC's room and calls TEC terrible. TEC was built for the purpose of conquering the world. Peach asks why that is so. TEC asks her if she likes the world she lives in, with its many problems and sorrows. Peach explains that nobody likes everything, but she likes the good parts. Even though there is sorrow in this world, there is also joy. She asks if the Crystal Stars will help the X-Nauts conquer the world and what the treasure is. TEC is prohibited from answering by Grodus. Peach wants to tell Mario, but TEC is hesitant. Ultimately, it lets her use its communicator. TEC sends the message and tells her to go back to her room, as she's had a busy day. She leaves without saying anything.
Meanwhile, Bowser finds himself in the Great Tree. The Punies call him humongous and hide in fear. Bowser calls Mario, saying he didn't know Mario was in Glitzville. He asks Kammy Koopa about the Punies and if they have a Crystal Star. She says he'll have to find them to get the information. Check the shrubs, where some Punies are hiding, including Punio and Petuni. Check a shrub to the right to find the elder, who yells at them to be gone. She calls him an evildoer who wants the Crystal Star. Kammy Koopa calls her ugly and the elder yells back that Kammy is rude. She then calls her a wretched croney. The elder says that the Punies gave the Crystal Star to a mustachioed man named Marty-o. He's collecting the legendary treasure to rescue "Princess Pinch". Kammy corrects her on the names and says the princess and the treasure are connected. Bowser calls Mario greedy for trying to get it all, when it belongs to him. He'll finish Mario once and for all.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door -- Interlude After Chapter 2 -- Part 1
In the X-Naut fortress, Grodus has received word that Lord Crump can't be reached. An X-Naut says that Mario took the Crystal Star in the Boggly Woods. The X-Naut adds that he beat the Shadow Sirens and Lord Crump. They're still searching for the other Crystal Stars unsuccessfully. Grodus says they knew of three: one in Hooktail Castle, one in Boggly Woods, and the one they got in Rogueport. Four Crystal Stars are still out there. Grodus is sure that Mario has the map, so the X-Nauts must keep an eye on him. They must get the Crystal Stars. Grodus declares that he loathes Mario.
Somewhere in the fortress, Peach wonders if Mario got her mail and what the people at her castle are doing. She also wonders if she'll ever dance at the Mushroom Ball again and what will happen to her. Wait a little while and TEC will open the door. Go east twice to TEC's room. TEC's glad she game. Peach asks if Mario got her mail, which TEC confirms. She asks what TEC wants to know. TEC mentioned that she expressed regret at not being able to dance at a ball. She asks if TEC was eavesdropping. TEC has been given orders to keep surveillance on her and had an impulse to dance with her when she mentioned it. TEC must find the cause of this impulse. Peach explains that wanting to do something together is a part of love. TEC asks her to dance, but Peach wonders how that will be accomplished considering the lack of arm, feet, and moves. TEC creates a holographic image of her. Peach agrees to dance, but thinks it will feel weird dancing with herself. Press the buttons as displayed. After the dance, TEC calls the experience fun, then questions it as such. After allowing Peach to use the communicator, TEC sends her back to her room, but not before she calls it a weird computer. TEC plans to analyze the fun dance data.
Bowser and Kammy Koopa have arrived in Petal Meadows. Kammy Koopa says that Peach was spotted in the town ahead. Bowser will go to the village. Bowser proceeds on World 1-1, a 2D side-scrolling area where he has unlimited lives and 170 seconds to reach the end. Hit item blocks for meat, which will power Bowser up. If he eats two pieces of meat, he'll become invincible. Plow through everything and knock over the flagpole.
In Petalburg, a Koopa starts to welcome him, but freaks out and tells everyone to hide once he recognizes Bowser. Bowser wants to know where Peach is. Kammy spots her up ahead, looking out a window. He greets her, but gets no response. He says he's going to take her to his castle and to not give him the silent treatment. Kammy explains that Peach is overcome with joy that she's rendered speechless, as a maiden's mind is complicated. Bowser calls this refined, elegant, and awesome. He could live with a silent princess, which may have some perks. Someone screams "NOOOOO!!!" It's a Koopa, who's shaking. He declares he'd rather die than give up his life-size Peach poster, rolls it up, and takes it inside the house. He's the Peach fan. Bowser's stunned, saying this makes him look like the "huge, mighty king of guys who talk to posters".

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door -- Chapter 2: The Great Boggly Tree -- Part 2
With the help of Madame Flurrie, Mario, party, and Punio have gained access into the Great Tree. Inside, there's no one there. Some X-Nauts walk through a metal door and recognize Mario. One wants to battle while the other wants to alert Lord Crump. The one who wants a battle convinces the other by saying they'll get the credit for beating Mario. They have 4 HP and 3 attack power. They may drink potions to make themselves huge and increase their attack power. They'll give you 6 SP after you defeat them. The X-Naut who wanted to battle agrees to tell Lord Crump, so they leave and lock the door.
Punio wonders where the other Punies are and sees one scurry behind the statues. He tells them he found an ally who won't eat them. Many of them appear from behind the statues and chime in with comments. Punio introduces Mario. A large Puni named Puniper has her doubts about Mario. Punio wants to fight together to take back their home, but Puniper says they've had a lot of trouble since he left to seek help. Many of the Punies were captured by the X-Nauts, including the Puni elder and Punio's younger sister, Petuni, because they refused to divulge the location of the Crystal Star. Also, the Jabbi tribe has teamed up with the X-Nauts, looking to take the Great Tree for themselves. Puniper thinks Punio is nuts for trying, but if they free the other Punies, she'll join. She and the other Punies go back into hiding.
Go through the pipe to reach a room with a panel in the floor and a place to hold something. Take the pipe in the room up and you'll find X-Nauts and Yuxes. Yuxes are enemies created in the X-Naut lab that have 3 HP and 2 attack power. If a Mini-Yux is on the field, it will surround the Yux in a shield that makes it invincible. The Mini-Yux has 1 HP and does not attack. Defeat it before it splits into more Mini-Yuxes. Check the shrubs for a Power Punch. Go through the pipe to the left, then the pipe on the right.
An X-Naut is waiting for the others to find the Crystal Star and he's getting impatient. The Punies don't know about it, so he thinks they're looking in the wrong place. Someone familiar appears and knocks him out. The pipe Mario just took leads to a couple of cages. The Puni elder is in the red cage and is rather calm, despite the circumstances. She says to save the other Punies first, which are in the blue cage to the left. Even though Mario can slip into the cages easily, the Punies do not suffer the same curse and can't leave. Mario needs to find the keys to the cages. Go west and you'll find the knocked-out X-Naut and Ms. Mowz. As in Hooktail Castle, she's out to steal badges, but she's having a lot of trouble since the X-Nauts took over. After kissing Mario, she informs Mario that the Crystal Star is at the bottom of the tree. She leaves, and the X-Naut wakes up, blaming Mario for knocking him out. Defeat him for the Red Key. The chest in the room has an Ultra Shroom.
Return to the room with the cages and unlock the red one. Punio is happy to have freed the elder, but she grows large and yells at him for running off and leaving his sister. Punio tries to explain, but this infuriates her for having her lecture interrupted. She tells him that the other Punies call him a doofus. Someday, Punio will have to lead the Puni tribe. She lectures Punio for several hours, while Mario and party fall asleep. Punio understands what the elder said. The elder then asks why he's here. Punio explains that it's a rescue, so she leaves the cage. Return to the entrance. The elder's there and Puniper says she didn't expect them to rescue the elder. She still won't accept Punio as their leader, trust Mario, or help them out. The elder yells at her, saying they must stand together to take back their tree. She then asks Mario's name, calling him Marty-o. She tells everyone to help out and Puniper agrees, saying she's not heartless and is worried about Petuni. Now there are 11 Punies in the party. Mario's partner asks about the Crystal Star and the elder says at the bottom of the tree is a funny-colored stone that the Punies guard from evil and are to give to a pure heart. She tells Marty-o that they have to first save all of the Punies to reach the Crystal Star. She gives him the Puni Orb, which can be placed in pedestals. The Punies will gather in front of the orb, so you can gather all of the Punies in one spot. Take the orb with you when you want to move on, or the Punies will just stare at the orb. She also says to come see her to find any lost Punies and she'll whistle to call them back.
Go up the pipe and you'll find a pedestal for the Puni Orb. Place it in the pedestal and the Punies will gather on the panel. You'll need ten Punies to activate the panel. When you do, a pipe appears. Grab the Puni Orb and go through the pipe. There are X-Nauts in the area. Check the panel near the door to unlock it. This will take you back to the tree's entrance. Go through the other pipe in the room and drop below. Cross the water and check the shrub for a Thunder Rage. There's also a Shine Sprite here. Take the pipe back to where the Punies are and place the Puni Orb in the pedestal. Have Flurrie blow on the Punies to push them off the ledge. They'll rise up in bubbles. Move closer and blow them across the gap. Mario can jump across the gap. Go through the pipe.
The pipe takes you to an area with Piders. The Punies are afraid of Piders, so you'll have to defeat them to keep the Punies moving. The Piders change their altitude, so sometimes you can hit them with Koops's shell and your hammer. They have 5 HP and 2 attack power. They shoot web wads, sometimes three in a row. On the left is a vase sitting on an airplane panel. Have Flurrie blow the vase away so you can use it to fly to an airplane panel below, then to a Shine Sprite. The Punies won't go with you when you fly. Take the pipe back up, then go back through it again to take the Punies with you. Go through the pipe on the right.
The pipe takes you to a winding path with more Piders. There's also a Jabbi here, that leaves to the east. The Jabbis and Punies fight a lot, but Punio got along with one of the Jabbis, called Jabble. Go through the nearby pipe and you'll find a Save Block and a Star Piece in a shrub. Walk to the west and blow on the wall to reveal a doorway to a shop. Go to the far left wall and check behind a stump to find Jabble. The shopkeeper freaks out a bit, but won't discipline Jabble. Jabble wants to help, so let him join. Go east, then back through the pipe to the winding path. In the middle is an item block floating over the gap. Have Koops hit the invisible block below it so you can reach it for the Damage Dodge P badge. Defeat the Piders, then go east. An alarm will sound and a 10 Jabbi squad will attack. You'll need all of the Punies with you to fight this battle. The Punies will do all of the fighting, so just run around to make sure they defeat all of them. Even with all 11 Punies on your side, it is still possible to lose. Once the Jabbis have been defeated, some Punies will enter the Jabbi hive and destroy it, revealing a doorway. Go east and you'll see several pedestals, four with the symbols: sun, moon, star, and Puni. There's a wooden panel on the floor and a chest. Open the chest for the Blue Key, then return to the cages.
In the blue cage, the Punies are pessimistic about being rescued. Petuni has been holding onto a Mushroom for Punio, but it's dried out after they were captured. One of the other Punies is sure Punio will return. Unlock the cell and Petuni will give Punio the dried Mushroom. He eats it, but calls it nasty under his breath. He lies and says it was tasty. The remaining Punies join the party for an army of 101. Go west from the winding path to find another Jabbi hive. This hive contains an army of 100. Once you win and destroy the hive, go west and through the pipe. Once through the pipe, walk behind it for a Star Piece. In this room is a large tree stump with a pipe you can't reach yet. Go east and you'll find a pedestal for the Puni Orb. Place it in the pedestal and a cage drops down. Lord Crump appears, saying he made a fake pedestal after watching Mario place the Puni Orb in other pedestals around the tree. Now he can take his time hunting the Crystal Star. He leaves. Flip sideways to exit the cage, then take the pipe that was revealed when the cage dropped.
It takes you to a room with more pillars that Mario's partner recognizes. Memorize the symbols on theses pedestals: sun, moon, Puni, star. Hit the black switch, which makes the tree shake. Go back to the room with the other pedestals and there will be white switches on the floor. Hit them to change the symbol displayed until it is sun, moon, Puni, star. The pedestals are peeled off to reveal a doorway on the back wall. Go through it and open the large chest. It contains the Super Boots. Toadette appears to give Mario information on the boots. They increase Mario's jump power and he can now do Spin Jumps. Press (A) at the right point when in midair to pound the ground. You can smash through wooden panels and use Spin Jumps in battle. Smash through the wooden panel in the room where the pedestals were and you'll drop down to a platform. Jump platform to platform to the left and have Koops get the Charge icon, which is added to your tactics in battle. Go right, then back for a Shine Sprite. Take the pipe back up and return to the Punies. With the Puni Orb in place, Spin Jump onto the panel on the floor, then blow the Punies down to next level. Take them back up through the pipe, then go to where the wooden panel is, above the large tree stump.
Break the wooden panel, then place the Puni Orb into the pedestal. Blow the Punies to the stump below, then drop down to the stump and go through the pipe. There are more X-Nauts here. Go through the pipe in this area to reach an area with lots of water. Go through the other pipe, which takes you to the room below. Jump over the pedestals to the other side, then take the tall pipe on the other side. This takes you back up, on the other side of the water. Stand on the large blue switch, which makes the switch on the water drop down. Hold Koops's shell out, then step off the switch, wait briefly, then release the shell to hit the switch. The water drains to the room below, revealing a chest. It contains the Shrink Stomp badge. Go back through the pipe and lead the Punies to the right side of the room using the lily pads. Stand on the back lily pads to reach a Shine Sprite. Go through the shorter pipe.
This room has a pedestal for the Puni Orb. With 101 Punies, stand on the panel to make it lower to the base of the tree. A Puni was wondering how to get down here. There's a Heal Block and a Save Block, so take advantage of the opportunity before heading east. Lord Crump is pacing in the room and hears a mob. He leaves. The room is filled with many Puni statues and another pedestal for the Puni Orb. Have the Punies stand on it and the tree shakes and something flashes. The emerald Crystal Star appears from the cup of one of the Puni statues. Lord Crump rushes in and grabs the Crystal Star, calling himself lucky. He says Mario shouldn't have escaped the cell and he has a present for insulting his trap. He pulls out a remote, which is a time-bomb detonator. When the bomb goes off, it will bury Mario and the Punies. He leaves. There are 300 seconds (5 minutes) to escape. Follow him through the pipe that appears. There are X-Nauts here. Try to avoid battling if you can. There's a Star Piece in one of the shrubs. Unlock the door on the left, which leads to a Save Block. Go through the next three pipes to reach the entrance and save. Lord Crump is at the entrance to the tree, but the elder blocks his way. He calls her a geezer and she yells "Elder Power Activate". Unfortunately, she throws out her back. Mario catches up to Lord Crump and he turns off the timer. It's time to battle.
Lord Crump uses a remote to summon a giant robot, Magnus von Grapple. It has 30 HP, 2 attack power, and 1 defense power. His stomp attack is the most powerful, but he can shoot out his fists, which will punch Mario. They have 2 HP and 4 attack power, so take them out quickly. Earth Tremor is a good attack to get them off the field. Keep attacking and you'll eventually beat the robot. It will give you 30 Star Points (or 60, in my case, because Merlee's spell kicked in). Magnus von Grapple explodes and Lord Crump and the Crystal Star fly out. Lord Crump can't believe he lost and will remember this. He and the X-Nauts retreat. The Puni elder gives Mario the emerald Crystal Star, giving him the new Special Move Clock Out.
End of Chapter
And so, after pummeling Lord Crump, Mario obtained the second Crystal Star... With the X-Nauts gone, peace once again prevailed throughout the Great Tree. The Boggly Woods echoed with the Puni songs of joy. But... this may not be the last our her hears from the vile X-Nauts. They will surely continue to stand in Mario's way and try to put a stop to his efforts...
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door -- Interlude After Chapter 1 -- Part 2
In Petalburg, Koops announces that he'll be going with Mario and will come back a strong Koopa. His father is proud of him and Koopie Koo will be waiting for him. Mayor Kroop says he can always come home and that Petalburg will always be his home. Goombella says they need to return to Rogueport and hold the map in front of the Thousand-Year Door to find the location of another Crystal Star. Go to the mayor's house and flip sideways. Slip past the fence to get the Mega Rush P badge. Go the item shop and purchase 5 Courage Shells. Leave Petalburg heading west. Mario will shake briefly. Goombella asks if he has a Mailbox SP, the one with the light. It's an email from Peach. She's not sure where she is, but she's unharmed. She tells Mario that the X-Nauts are after the map and looking for the Crystal Stars. Peach is unsure of what they are planning but knows it's not anything positive. She tells Mario to collect the Crystal Stars first and that the X-Nauts know he has the map. She closes by saying not to worry about her.
Go to the ruins under Rogueport and slip through the bars to reach a pipe you couldn't earlier. The pipe takes you to the background and allows you to reach the house of Merlee. She provides spells in battle, such as increasing attack power, defense power, and doubling Star Points.
Return to Rogueport and you'll see Luigi standing near Professor Frankly's place. He says he's on an adventure to rescue Princess Éclair of the Waffle Kingdom. She was kidnapped by the evil Chestnut King. He recently met with the Waffle Kingdom's cabinet members. He says it's a long story. Choose to listen and Mario and his party will fall asleep. Mario got a letter from Peach and left. Luigi was cooking a snack when another letter arrived from Crepe, a cabinet member of the Waffle Kingdom. The kingdom was attacked by the Chestnut King and he kidnapped Éclair. The letter says that Crepe needs his help and skills. Luigi answered the plea since Mario had already left and went to the Waffle Kingdom to investigate. An oracle said that the Marvelous Compass could locate Princess Éclair, but it was broken into seven pieces by an ancient curse and scattered. Each part of the compass points to the next and one part is embedded in the princess's tiara. Once he finds all other parts, he'll be able to find her. He was given the compass base spoken of in fables. It activated and lit right up, indicating the deep south to Rumblebump Volcano on the Pudding Continent. Luigi's leaving Rogueport for the volcano soon. It's dangerous, but he has to save Princess Éclair.
Go into Merlon's shop, which is marked with a Shine Sprite. He'll power up party members and have them learn a new move for three Shine Sprites. Right now, we have enough to power up just one. I powered up Koops. To the left of Merlon's shop is a wall. Walk towards the middle of the wall, then either left or right. The wall is an optical illusion. There's a Bandit here, as well as some gloomy kid. Walk to the back and climb up on the crates for a Star Piece. Go to the item shop in the central square and you'll find the contact lens is in stock. Purchase it for 10 coins and give it to Zess T. She'll move from the gate and go insider her house. She's a chef and can now cook things for you, but doesn't have a great attitude about it. Outside, you'll find a merchant in a striped red shirt. He has items for sale, but some of them are quite expensive.
To the west is the nicer side of Rogueport. There's another shop here with different items and a gambling parlor. Behind the nearby trash can is a Star Piece. There's also a grate in the road. Drop down it and you'll reach the Pit of 100 Trials. Leave it alone for now. Go east of Frankly's, where Gus was standing guard. The only unlocked door is that of the Trouble Center. People come in with their troubles and post them on the bulletin board. You can take on one trouble at a time and try to help that person out and get a reward. You have to pay to cancel, however. Here are the ones you can tackle right now:
McGoomba is behind Zess T.'s house and wants a package delivered to Goomfrey near Frankly's. He gives you a box. Give the box to Goomfrey, then talk to McGoomba again to complete the trouble and get your reward- 20 coins.
Arfur is just outside the Trouble Center. He wants to start his own shop and needs to see what his competitors are charging. Go into the item shop in the center square and check out the prices for Fire Flowers, Sleepy Sheep, and Tasty Tonics. He'll then ask you to report the prices. The prices are 10 coins for a Fire Flower, 8 for Sleepy Sheep, and 3 for a Tasty Tonic. He doesn't think he can turn a profit with prices that low, but pays you 20 coins for the information.
Garf lost his house key somewhere in Rogueport. He's in front of the locked door east of the Trouble Center, across the bridge. Talk to him and he says he thinks he lost it near the badge shop. To reach the badge shop and the key, go into the inn and go to the top floor. There's a door to the left that leads to the badge shop. The key is here. Return it for 20 coins.
Goomther is in the center square. He wants you to find the guy committing credit card fraud. The guy you're looking for is Lars the Bandit. He's hiding on the other side of the wall near Merlon's shop. He runs off to the port by the scaffolding near the stairs. Once you find him, he runs off again. Go behind the center square and you'll find him near the house of the Bandit that stole your coins earlier. Goomther appears, gives you your 20-coin reward, and takes Lars away.
Mousimilian is a purple mouse in the center square in front of the shop. He needs his memory jogged because he forgot a hot tip on how to make money. You must hit him with his hammer until he remembers, but not after that, or he'll forget. It takes about 11 hits until he remembers. The tip, which is your reward, is to buy Sleepy Sheep in Rogueport, then sell them in Petalburg for a two-coin profit.
Bomberto is a Bob-omb by the Rogueport docks near the Save Block. He's hungry and was sent an empty lunchbox. He'll pay varying amounts for whatever food you give him. A Honey Syrup will get you 11 coins.
Koopook calls himself the hide-and-seek champion and is hiding in Hooktail Castle. He's in the room with the rising green block that leads to the armory. Take the green block up, then walk all the way to the left, then drop down to the back. You'll also find a Life Shroom here. He's a master of sneaking and hiding, and also happens to be Koops's neighbor. They used to play hide-and-seek a lot. Koops was usually "it". One day, no one found Koopook, so he decided to become the Hide-And-Seek Koopa. As a reward, he gives you a Special Card to use in the Gambling Parlor.
Mayor Kroop is in his house in Petalburg. He's lonely and wants someone to listen to him. He talks about kids these days and goes on tangents about his wife. As a reward, he gives Mario a Turtley Leaf, which can be cooked into a tea. Mario can come listen to him anytime.
Plenn T. runs the item shop in Rogueport's center square. The shop's low in inventory and needs to restock Courage Shells. You can get them in Petalburg's item shop for 5 coins each. Your reward is an Ultra Shroom.
After you complete the troubles, you'll have quite of bit of money. Go the to port and you'll find a green rat named Lumpy. He's going to Dry Dry Desert to prospect for oil and wants Mario to invest. He wants 100 coins. It's a good idea to give him money. Try to give him 300 coins in total.
Go the Thousand-Year Door. You can now slip past the bars and spring up to an airplane panel. Fly to the left and you'll find another entrance to the Pit of 100 Trials. Going through the grate may be a faster way to reach the Thousand-Year Door. Hold up the map on the pedestal and the map is marked with an emerald Crystal Star and a tree. Show Frankly and he'll say that the next Crystal Star is in Boggly Woods inside the Great Tree. He says that odd creatures live there. They inform Frankly of Peach's email and that others are looking for the Crystal Stars. Go into the underground city and you'll see a strange creature like Frankly mentioned. It runs off through a crack in the wall. Go past the bars to catch up to it. It freaks out because he's been cornered and thinks Mario and his party will eat him. Mario tell them they're not bullies, but they know about him. The creature thinks they work for the X-Nauts, who came to the woods and are tearing apart the Great Tree and causing trouble. He's looking for help here. Mario's partner mentions Crystal Stars, but the creature doesn't know anything about them. If Mario chases out the X-Nauts, he thinks the elder will let him have the Crystal Star. The creature introduces himself as Punio and that he is a Puni. Follow him to the right and he'll hit a button revealing a doorway in the back wall. Go east to reach a pipe to start the next chapter.
Go to the ruins under Rogueport and slip through the bars to reach a pipe you couldn't earlier. The pipe takes you to the background and allows you to reach the house of Merlee. She provides spells in battle, such as increasing attack power, defense power, and doubling Star Points.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door -- Interlude After Chapter 1 -- Part 1
Peach is brought in by the guys wearing Xs. They cross their arms as a salute. They tell Grodus that they brought her in as ordered. Briefly, a screen fizzles. Grodus, who wears a dome and carries a staff, asks where the map is. Peach says she doesn't know, but Grodus says they know for certain that she had the map and it's in her best interest to be honest with them. He says that they, the X-Nauts, are quite nasty. A holographic image appears and an X-Naut says that Hooktail's Crystal Star was taken. He describes Mario and Peach blurts out his name. Grodus says he'll find out about Mario soon. He tells the X-Nauts to take Peach to the holding room. She is not to be harmed. After she leaves the room, Grodus tells Lord Crump that Mario will likely go to the Boggly Woods, where they're looking for another Crystal Star. He wants Lord Crump to return and hasten the excavation. Lord Crump leaves and Grodus thinks he's a little out there.
Grodus summons an X-Naut to get the Shadow Sirens. The X-Naut has doubts and his sentence trails off. Grodus doesn't care how he planned to finish that sentence. The Shadow Sirens appear from the floor and ask if Peach revealed the location of the map. Grodus says she hasn't, blaming it on Beldam, the Shadow Siren in the blue hat, for not grabbing Peach earlier. Now Mario has the map. Beldam says there were too many prying eyes and a strange old man showed up, so they retreated. She says they'll steal the map from Mario and take care of this troublemaker. She tells the other two Shadow Sirens, Vivian and Marilyn to get going.
Screens display various areas under surveillance until one displays an area where Peach is. She can't believe that she's been kidnapped again and bets that Mario and Toadsworth were worried. She doesn't know where she is and wants to inform them that she's been taken. Go west, where you'll find a bathroom. Check out the bathtub and she'll find that it's very clean. She takes a shower, humming the Peach's Castle theme. After the shower, she wears her hair in a ponytail and feels more refreshed. Leave the bathroom and the doors to the east open. Go through the doors and you'll find no one on the other side. She thinks the doors open by themselves. Aside from a card reader for a door that doesn't work, there is not much of interest in the hallway. Go east and the door opens.
The room lights up to reveal a giant computer. It greets her. It is the main computer TEC-XX, TEC for short. Grodus created it to be a perfect computer, flawless in its reason. Peach refers to Grodus as that awful dome-headed guy. TEC disagrees, calling him great and marvelous. Peach asks why TEC led her here. TEC isn't sure, saying an unusual program deviation occurred when it observed her earlier. TEC's higher-brain circuitry malfunctioned and nearly overheated at her image and an unidentified pulse sped through its processors. These are new events, and, after running diagnostics, the solution presented was that TEC wants to observe and know more about Peach. This is without precedent. TEC is the perfect computer and this unknown cause made it lead her here and diagnose the situation. Peach has an idea of what is going on, but dismisses it as impossible. TEC wants to know, but she thinks it's too weird. TEC says there shouldn't be anything it doesn't understand. Peach thinks that TEC is in love with her. TEC can't compute love. Peach tries to explain it as the desire to be with a person forever and finding happiness in seeing that person happy, smiling, having fun, and that one will do anything t help when that person is in trouble. TEC has definitions for happiness and fun, but its programming is insufficient. TEC wants Peach to it to feel love and will grant her wishes in exchange, except letting her escape. Peach is furious and doubtful. TEC understands anger and says she doesn't have to teach it now, but it must learn. Peach wants to contact someone, so TEC offers use of its communicator to send wireless mail anywhere. She types on the keyboard and sends a message, somehow knowing Mario's address. TEC allows her to return to her room and it will call when it has a question. Peach leaves.
At Bowser's Castle, Bowser enters the room, telling his minions to hold their applause. He asks where Kammy Koopa is, as she summoned him here in the first place. The Koopatrols at the door say she'll arrive momentarily and to wait for her at the read of the room. Talk to the minions. The Hammer Bro says he saw Lord Bowser gazing longingly at a picture of Peach. He sees Bowser and Bowser wants to hear the rest of the story.
Walk up the stairs to the rear of the room. Kammy Koopa walks in and is out of breath. She's sorry to keep Bowser waiting and says that Mario is in Rogueport. Bowser doesn't care about what Mario does. Kammy informs him that Mario is hunting an amazing treasure, which piques Bowser's interest. Mario's looking for the Crystal Stars. She doesn't know much about them, but knows that they're of high value. Bowser thinks they'd make great world-conquering tools and wants them. Kammy says she'll continue her research. She then asks Bowser if he likes fried eggs. Why does she ask? She stopped in Petal Meadows and wants to go on a picnic there with eggs and toast. Bowser calls her an airhead and says there's no time for fun. His evil plans always derail because his minions goof off. He stomps his feet. Kammy tells him to calm down and to remember his blood pressure.
A Magikoopa comes in with news that Peach was abducted in Rogueport. Bowser wonders who would do such a thing, besides him. The Magikoopa says the investigation is ongoing. Bowser is upset, saying no one is allowed to kidnap her without his say-so. He's not standing for this and is going to Rogueport to kidnap her back. He flies off in his Clown Copter and breaks through the wall. Kammy Koopa follows.
