Mario and Luigi: Dream Team -- Part 6: Dreamy Desert Drilling

Bowser and Antasma have teamed up and are headed for Dozing Sands, where the Dream Stone is. To reach Dozing Sands, go south of Mushrise Park, then east. The road there is under construction, so the bros should be careful.

There are Attack Pieces in Dozing Sands. One is in the upper left corner. There are new enemies here. Sandoons will tunnel under the sand and attack. Counter by jumping or using a hammer. Flounderflages are either red or green and will attack the bro of the same color, after covering themselves with sand. Go east and you'll find a badge shop. The bros play hardball with the shopkeeper to get a free pair of badges. The Guard Badge forms a barrier that reduces damage to zero for three attacks. The Bronze Badge restores 30% of BP. He has other badges for sale. Go south.

A Shelltop worker slides down the sand flow. A worker on top of the sand flow says Britta will get upset with him for falling down the sand flow. He mentions having magic stairs or something to reach the top of the sand flow. On the left side of the rocks, there are more Shelltops hammering Sandoons, telling them to stay still. Walk over to them. Battle the Sandoons first. The Shelltops thank the bros for the help. They notice the bros have hammers and decide to help them by showing them a special technique. One Shelltop hammers another underground, like he saw in a movie. This allows a bro to go under fences and other things. Use [R] to change icons, then (B) to swing the hammer, sending Mario underground. Move around with the Circle Pad and hit (A) to pop out. This Bros. Move is called Mole Mario. If they do that technique on a hard surface, Mario will get squished and be shorter, allowing him to go through small holes. Hit Mario again to return him to normal size. This is the Mini-Mario Bros. Move. As a challenge, the bros must hit two blocks the Shelltops excavated to the north. You'll need to be Mini Mario to get the right block and Mole Mario to get the left block. While you're near the left block, hit the cactus to knock over a pillow. Slide down the sand flow. Also grab the Attack Piece in the southeast corner. They also point out bean spots to the bros, the Xs you periodically see in the ground. Beans increase stats, so be sure to dig them up. They can be found in the Collection section of the menu.

Go to the dream world. You'll find Dreamy Sandoons here. They'll throw spike balls at Mario from one of four sides. Counter with the hammer. They'll also charge Mario in a line. Move around and jump over or on them. Go left. Jump up the platforms and hit the blue button on the ceiling. This removes a couple of barriers, reveal many enemies directly in front of the bros. They freak out and head for higher ground. Jump up and go to the left. Dreamy Luigi will start glowing. The constellation in the background is a Luiginary Work. Dreamy Luigi hops in, while Mario and Dreambert wait in anticipation. Dreamy Luigi pops out of the Work. So do many Luiginoids. The stars of the constellation turn into Luiginoids. The Luiginoids form a tower Mario can stand on. Dreambert says this Work creates multiple copies of the dreamer, something he's only heard of in legend. Walk to the right and use (B) to jump. In some spots, the ground is uneven and the tower will topple and fall apart, making the Luiginoids disappear. If that happens, send Dreamy Luigi back into the Work again. To maintain balance, correct the tower with the Circle Pad. The tower can reach coins and hit buttons on the ceiling. Drop down to the right, then go left, and plow into the enemies. The tower is too tall to go farther to the left, so use [R] and (B) to disassemble the tower.

There's a sign in this area that says to lean something big against the diagonal buttons. Form the tower and hit the button on the ceiling. Jump up, then walk to the right to find a diagonal button. Let the tower lean on it to activate it. Do the same thing to the button on the left. Drop down on the right, then go to the nightmare chunk. Disassemble the tower to free the Pi'illo. The Pi'illo says the Dream Stone lies far beyond the sand flow to the east. The Pi'illo gives the bros a Dozite, which goes into the Zeekeeper statue to make steps in the nearby sand flow. The bros will need more than one Dozite to find the Dream Stone, requiring them to find other guardians, like him. Go up the steps and head east.

Up ahead is Britta, the Brock in charge of the construction. She's quite demanding. She tries to put the bros to work, but laughs when they tell her they want to find the Dream Stone. She's been all over the desert trying to make it tourist-friendly and hasn't seen it. She's never been past the giant sand flow in front of them, so it might be there. She mentions the four Zeekeeper statues flanking the sand flow, saying they might be the key to reaching the top of the sand flow. Britta lets the bros look around the desert as long as they stay out of her crew's way. Go south.

Grab the Attack Piece on the right, then jump on the platform with drills. The Shelltop explains how to use the machine, called the Drilldigger. Hit the bro's button to activate the drill. Once the drill retracts, it will keep moving on the tracks. Drill the long red button at a station to stop the Drilldigger and get off. He says there's sometimes stuff under the rocks. Use the Drilldigger to break the rock, then head south.

Britta says she changed her mind about letting the bros wander around, so she's putting them to work. They get on another Drilldigger and she explains more about it. Drill green switches with arrows to make the Drilldigger go in the opposite direction. Break as many rocks as you can once you get past the bridge. When using the Drilldigger, the bros should break all the rocks. There are blue panels with arrows where the track splits. Dig underground and pop up beneath them to switch tracks. She says people have found pillows under the rocks. At a station, there will be small green blocks with gears on them. Hit them to call the Drilldigger. She pays more for each rock broken. She has the bros break a rock that's sparkling. It has a pillow. Mario goes into the dream world, while Britta calls him a slacker.

Mario lands right next to the nightmare chunk, which is flush with the edge of a platform over a spike pit. Leave it alone for now. Drop down to the left and go right, where there are lots of drills. They will spin around, allowing Mario to get from one side to the other. Spin Luigi's nose to spin the drills. Use the drills, then go right. Follow the drills to go right. Grab the coins if you wish. The next area has enemies, including the Lob-omb, which will throw bombs at Mario, sometimes to his side or behind him. Go up and to the left. Cross the first spike pit with the drills, then Dreambert will tell Mario to jump when the drill is spinning for extra distance. Timing is crucial. Cross the gaps, then go left. Use your hammer to break the nightmare chunk. This frees another gatekeeper Pi'illo, who gives the bros another Dozite. There are three more gatekeeper Pi'illos, each with a Dozite.

Go around the construction site to break rocks, find pillows, and collect Attack Pieces. The Attack Pieces will give you the Bros. Attack Fire Bros., initiated by Luigi. Wait until the fireballs are big to throw them. When the fireballs are big for both bros, mash (A) and (B) repeatedly. One of the pillows is away from the tracks, in the southeast corner. In the dream world, you'll find enemies called Skipdrills, who will attack Mario from the front and back. Jump to counter. Sometimes, they will head for each other and hurt each other. When you save three gatekeepers, a Shelltop reports a large horned creature, called Torkscrew, in the area. It appears and chases him away. Go to where Britta is and you'll see the creature's horn knock the last pillow from a circle of rocks. It will then eat it and wait. Heal and save.

Britta says you'll have to hit the monster with a drill to engage it. Hit it with the Drilldigger and it will clear a path to the east. Follow it. It will then lead you on a chase. Hit it five times to prevent it from escaping. You have until you reach the end of the line. Once you hit it five times, it will spit out the pillow and retreat. The pillow is covered in drool and smells like garlic. Luigi gives in and takes a nap. The Drill Works here can move Mario up and down. These ones have longer drills. Spin them in the correct direction to move Mario up or down. To the right are crystals on the ceiling that will fall. Time your jumps. Do not be on the side of the drill where the crystals are. Go left at the bottom. Go left again, through a pipe. This will take you to the nightmare chunk with the last gatekeeper in it. The last Dozite goes into the remaining Zeekeeper statue. The path to the Dream Stone is open, so the bros must check on it. Exit to the west to reach the sand flow quickly. Hit the orange ! Block to be able to return that way. Approach the sand flow to make steps appear. Britta's impressed. She'll check the area ahead, looking for treasure. Follow her up the steps.

  2. Make sure that the arrows on the track point to where you want them to go. There are certain areas where the Drilldigger will jump the track and it will do that on its own when it hits that part of the track. This happens on the southern parts of the track.
