New Super Luigi U: Mergingue Clouds- Fort -- Stonecrush Tower

This fort features moving stones that can crush you if you're not careful. The first Star Coin is near the start, on the right side in an alcove. Go to the right, dodging the fireballs of the Fire Bro between the moving stones. Climb up higher and walk to the left. You'll see some horizontally moving stones in front of a Fire Bro and a green pipe. The second Star Coin is behind one of the stones and comes into view when it moves. Drop down to get it and jump out quickly. Go through the pipe and the floor you're standing on will start to rise and the level will start to automatically scroll up. There are two pipes in the middle of the floor, which produce coins. As you rise, you'll pick up a couple of Fire Bros. Kill them quickly and coins will appear from the pipes. At the top are two sets of stones that come together. When they open, run through them quickly before they close. There's a Fire Bro at the end. Kill it and run past it, under the boss door, to find the hidden third Star Coin.

Kamek is the boss here. He'll create several blocks floating in the air that move horizontally. If his magic hits a block, it may turn into an enemy. The floor will turn into donut lifts. He'll keep disappearing and reappearing. Stay in the center or to one side and stomp him three times to win.

Near the left wall, the passage will narrow and you'll have to jump from snake block to snake block, following the coin arches. Jump at the first coin arch to reach the third Star Coin, 8-bit Luigi, and a 1-up. Go through the boss door and Kamek will make Boom Boom a giant. Stomp three times to win.

There are spikes and icicles here. The second Star Coin is on the left side. Jump slightly to get it without going to the level it's on so you won't be damaged by icicles. Climb up and you'll see another elevator. When on the elevator, run to the left to get the third Star Coin. Use the pipe cannon to reach it and the boss door. Keep climbing up and you'll see a Dry Bones on the right side. There are two engines above it. Between them are two levels of invisible blocks. This will allow you to reach the third Star Coin between the flames. At the top, there are a lot of Dry Bones by the boss door. Going through the boss door will give you 100 extra seconds so you can defeat the boss. Boom Boom is the boss again. Stomp him three times to win. After you win, you can save the game. New Super Mario Bros. U: Rock-Candy Mines- Fort 2 -- Screwtop Tower

Screwtops make a return. Stand on the screw and spin to make the platform move. Take the first screwtop to the pipe. This takes you to the main tower, which has more screwtops and orange platforms Mario can only bump from below. He can't go through them. You'll have to go around to stand on them. There are firebars in this level you'll have to dodge while standing on the screwtops. Take the yellow pipe to an area with the first Star Coin. Use the POW Block to get it. Up ahead are Sumo Bros, but these ones shoot down lightning when they stomp. They have spikes on their heads, so you'll have to bump the orange platforms below them to get rid of them. Keep going up to reach the midpoint. The second Star Coin is high over the next Sumo Bro. Use the screwtop and dodge the firebar to get it. Bounce from the noteblocks and go up to reach the Red Coin Ring near the top of the level. You'll have to deal with L-shaped firebars to get them. There is a Sumo Bro next to the boss door. Get rid of it, then jump above the orange platform for some invisible blocks. There are three tiers of invisible blocks over the platform. The top tier will allow you to reach the third Star Coin. Through the boss door, Kamek will make a Sumo Bro a giant Sumo Bro. It will jump on some of the orange platforms. This battle is a little tricky. You'll have to bump the Sumo Bro from below, and knock it down to a level you can reach, then stomp it. You'll have to stomp it before it gets back up. Try bumping it to the floor, or one of the lower orange platforms, but you'll have to run around to jump up to stomp it. You can bump it from below as many times as you need. Stomp it three times to win. This opens the path to Rock-Candy Mines-7.

New Super Mario Bros. U: Rock-Candy Mines- Fort -- Grinding-Stone Tower

This Fort has lots of spiked balls rolling around. There are moving pipes in the level that push them around. The level also features Bony Beetles. Over a horizontal green pipe is a hidden area with a block with a Mini Mushroom. This will make the level more difficult, but you'll need it to get some of the Star Coins. There is a mini pipe on the left wall. Dodge a large spike ball and run under it to get the first Star Coin. The second Star Coin is on the right side in a hidden area with three spike balls under the midpoint. Do not get a power-up yet; you have to be Mini Mario to get the third Star Coin.  Above the midpoint are more moving pipes and spike balls. In an alcove to the left are some coins. The alcove above it and to the right has a Red Coin Ring. Next are lots of moving pipes and spike balls dropping down. There are few safe spots, so stay alert. As you climb, you'll see spots where the spike balls are coming from. One of them on the right wall is next to a mini pipe. With good timing, dodge the spike balls and go through the pipe. This leads to a vertical area with large spike balls rolling around on platforms. With good timing, jump straight up to the top of the level, carefully jumping up to each platform. At the top is the third Star Coin and a pipe to the red goal. This opens the path to Rock-Candy Mines-6.

If you do not go after the third Star Coin, continue up the maze of pipes and spike balls to the boss door. This time, Kamek gives Boom Boom wings. Boom Boom flies around and swoops down, but does not land. You'll need good timing to stomp him. Stand nearby so you can stomp him as soon as he gets up, because he flies off quickly. Defeating him opens the path to Rock-Candy Mines-3 and -4.

New Super Mario Bros. U: Soda Jungle- Fort -- Snake Block Tower

Go through the pipe in the first room to reach a giant snake block, which will take you through the first part of the fort. There are spike balls on spiked chains and Amps, so watch your step. The first Star Coin is near the second Amp you'll see. There are Red Coins to collect, and a nearby small snake block that leads to the second Star Coin. Be sure to quickly return to the large snake block, because the small snake block will pass through the walls without you, leaving you to fall. The large snake block will take you to the midpoint. There's a gap overhead that leads to a pipe. This leads to the next part of the fort. You can get the Acorn Mushroom here and you'll have to follow the large snake block. The small snake block on the right will take you to the third Star Coin. This part of the fort has larger balls and chains, so duck when they get close. The large snake block will take you to the boss door, where there's an invisible item block on the left wall. Once through the boss door, Kamek appears and makes Boom Boom larger, so he can jump higher. Defeat him as you normally do to open the path deeper into the forest, where things transition. The level that opens up is the Ghost House.

New Super Mario Bros. U: Frosted Glacier- Fort -- Freezing Rain Tower

oThis level has lots of icicles dangling from the ceiling. If they shake, it means they're about to fall, which will hurt if they land on you. They also act as spikes on the ceiling. The large icicles serve as platforms. Use the two large icicles as a platform to a tilting platform that leads to a Red Coin Ring. Another large icicle will lead you to a another tilting platform with the first Star Coin. Go up to the midpoint. Just above it is a yellow platform that fills the whole room. Take the platform up to the boss door. On the way, you'll see Dry Bones and the second Star Coin, which is on the right. Past the second Star Coin is a narrow gap on the left. Jump to it to reach an invisible area with the third Star Coin. Use the POW Block to get rid of the Dry Bones. At the boss door, two large icicles will drop down near the walls. The one on the right will help you reach an invisible block with a power-up. Kamek will power up Boom Boom so that he jumps around. Stomp him as usual. This opens the path to Frosted Glacier-3.

New Super Mario Bros. U: Sparkling Waters- Fort -- Giant Skewer Tower

The pipe in the first room leads to a water-filled room with lots of skewers, which are spiked pillars Some of the Star Coins are hidden in invisible area. The first Star Coin is in the left alcove of the first spike pillar. In the alcove of the second spike pillar is a Red Coin Ring. The second Star Coins are near the Red Coins. Go up past the Dry Bones to more spike pillars. There are platforms amongst spike pilllars. Go to the right ledge for some blocks to reach the high platform. Near the top of this section of the tower is a green pipe. On the left side of the wall is the face of Bowser Jr., near a giant Dry Bones. Behind the face is an invisible area with a red pipe. Both pipes lead to the midpoint, but the red pipe lets you access a P-Switch that makes Silver Coins. This area also has spike pillars. Over the next one you see is the third Star Coin, so be careful getting it. You'll want to stay away from the note blocks until you're ready to jump. Hit the note blocks from below for coins and items. On the second level in an invisible area is a POW Block. It can help you get the Star Coin. At the top is the boss door.  Kamek uses his magic to make Boom Boom jump higher in the arena, which has a little water in it. Stomp him as usual. The path to the Ghost House opens up. Farther away, Peach's Castle is surrounded by a vortex. Peach calls for help.

New Super Mario Bros. U: Layer-Cake Desert- Fort -- Stone Slide Tower

In this fort, there are wheels to spin that move the stone blocks around. Stand on the wheel and press [ZR] to move the blocks, repeating this as necessary. Spinning the first wheel makes the first Star Coin appear on the left side. There are Spike Tops in the fort, so be careful where you jump. Climb higher in the tower and spin the wheel, then quickly move to the left and wall jump up past the stone for the second Star Coin. Near the top, spin the wheel to move steps into place so you can reach the pipe to the midpoint. In this part, there are patches of quicksand. Over the first patch is a set of stones that will allow you to platform up. It also has a giant Dry Bones on it. There's an invisible red pipe on the left wall near the second patch of quicksand. It leads to a room where infinite spike balls appear from the ceiling. The third Star Coin is blocked off in stone. Just below where the spike balls appear is a stone you can move by spinning a wheel. Time it so that the stone catches the spike ball, and lets it roll to the right, hit the wall, then roll back to the left and break the stone. You have to get the Star Coin on your own, so be careful. Once you return to the main level, keep climbing until you reach a set of pipes in the middle of the tower. You need to spin the wheel to separate the stones over the pipes, then quickly use the pipe as a cannon to the boss door before the stones come together. Kamek appears in the boss room and powers up Boom Boom so that he spins around. Other than that, the battle is the same. Stomp him as soon as he gets up to make the battle go faster. Once defeated, Mario kicks him out. In another part of the Mushroom Kingdom, Kamek circles Peach's Castle, and whips up a purple mist that covers the castle until we can't see it. The path to Layer-Cake Desert-4 and -5 opens up, through a maze with a Goomba, a Fire Bro, and an Acorn Mushroom.

New Super Mario Bros. U: Acorn Plains- Fort -- Crushing Cogs Tower

This fort is filled with spinning cogs to help you reach new heights, as well as possibly crush you. Climb up the first set of cogs and get the Ice Flower from the item block. There are Dry Bones in here, so use the Ice Flower to get rid of them. Wall jump up the right side of the fort to reach the first Star Coin. There's a moving stone above it that will block your access to the Star Coin, but it won't hurt you. Take the platform up, climb past some cogs, and go left for the second Star Coin. There's a Red Coin Ring over a cog. Soon after, you'll reach the midpoint. There's a set of three cogs above, which can crush you. The one on the right will crush you, so jump off it immediately. Jump from the cog to the left over to a ledge on the right wall. Jump up from there for an invisible area to the right, with a pipe cannon that takes you to the third Star Coin. You'll soon reach the boss door. The boss of this fort is Boom Boom. He runs around flailing his arms and bounces off the walls. Stomp him three times for victory. Mario kicks him out of the fort and the path to Acorn Plains-3 opens up. We can now save our game.

Go up the right side of the level and shut off the engines on that side to reach the first Star Coin. Take the platforms on paths up to the midpoint, avoiding and shutting off the engines. Go through the door on the left. Watch the pattern of the engines. You'll be safe standing on the blocks. Carefully hop up to the top of the room, where the second Star Coin is. Take the platform up and shut off the engines on the way, especially the engine below the green pipe on the right, so you can go through the pipe. It leads to a room with a random coin block and the second Star Coin. Watch the pattern of the engines. When they are not firing, hop onto the top of the engines that do not fire on top. The top two engines fire on top, so be quick. The pipe at the top will take you to the boss door. There are four Reznor on a large wheel. Once defeated, the path will open to 6-4.

Quickly climb up the grates with Koopas on them and reach the I-shaped grate. It will start moving past jet engines. Avoid the engines and stay to the right to avoid spikes. Once most of it is past the grates, it rotate and appear H-shaped. Quickly jump right to another grate, then jump up for the first Star Coin. Quickly return to the moving grate and go on its left side, as it will split apart and the right side will sink into the lava. There are some Red Coins to the right. The grate will stop moving below a door. Quickly jump off the grate and go through the door. This leads to the midpoint and another door. The lava is still rising. There is a mini pipe near a jet engine. It leads to a P-Switch with Silver Coins. Climb up on the grate and it will start moving. New Super Mario Bros. 2: 4-Fort

This Fort has a rising floor. There will be skulled Piranha Plants in pipes in the walls, so don't slide around too much. Some Piranha Plants will be on the floor and join you as the floor rises. There are two random coin blocks on the way. Between two Piranhas is the first Star Coin. Above them is a mini pipe to the second Star Coin. Go through the door at the top. It leads to the midpoint and another door to a similar room with a rising floor. As you go up, there will be two fire pipes. The left one will give you three 1-ups. The right one will give you a Starman, so take out those Piranhas. There's a giant one ahead of you. Above it is the third Star Coin. If you go through the blue pipe on the left on the same level as the giant Piranha Plant, you'll go through another pipe to the Red Goal, which leads to 4-C. If you don't, go through the door at the top and take the pipe cannon to the boss door. This time, there are four Reznor, but on two ferris wheels. Take them out as usually, being careful when jumping to the next wheel. After you defeat them, Morton Koopa Jr. appears and takes Peach to the castle. The path opens to 4-3.

New Super Mario Bros. 2: 3- Fort

The level starts out on a platform just above the water, where a Fishbone swims around. Hop in the water and go left. If the Fishbone sees you, it will swim towards you until it runs into you or something else, which will cause it to break apart. Drop slightly down the gap and swim left to an new room with moving stones. The first Star Coin is to the left over the item blocks. Go back and through the green pipe on the right. The level becomes a vertical automatic sidescroller, with you swimming to avoid Fishbones and moving stones. The second Star Coin is on the right, past two sets of stones with spikes. The stones blocking your way will move up and out of your way. There are spiked pillars in this area. The midpoint is blocked off, so you'll be safe for a while. Get a powerup and Gold Block while you're there. As you swim up, you'll see a Red Coin Ring between pipes with currents. Go through the green one for the third Star Coin. Carefully swim up, avoiding Fishbones and spiked pillars. Go through the green pipe at the top. There are a couple of item blocks to the left of the boss door. There are four Reznor this time. Just hit the blocks below them. If the floor starts disappearing before you can get them all, hop on one of the blocks one was standing on. Once you defeat them all, Wendy drops in, then takes Peach to the castle.
If you happen to be Mini Mario, there's a mini pipe below the midpoint to the right. The level automatically scrolls up past moving stones and spiked pillars. At one point, you'll stop between stones. Stones will come in from the sides, first the bottom, then top, then center, then both the top and bottom, then the center. Avoid being crushed. The stones will then close in from the bottom, but you'll eventually be able to swim up. Don't swim up too quickly, as there are stones, spike pillars, and a Fishbone directly above. Stay below the Fishbone as you won't be able to swim up before the pillars and stones close in on you. The brick blocks to the left contain 2 1-ups. The red pipe to the right opens up the path to the cannon.

New Super Mario Bros. 2: 1-Fort

Our first Fort of the game. There are some new enemies here wearing skulls. They're otherwise like other enemies. We get a Raccoon Leaf and use a snake platform to get up. There are snake platforms near many platforms. There is a hidden 1-up under the Red Coin Ring. Go to the left for the first Star Coin. Avoid being crushed by the snake platform below it. Above is the midpoint and a door. You'll find snake platforms moving into a gap to the right. Go into that gap to find a yellow pipe. It will take you outside to a snake platform staircase and the Red Goal. This opens path to World 1's cannon. If you do not go to the Red Goal, there are snake platforms over the door. They allow you to reach a red pipe on the left. There's a P-Switch in the room that makes Silver Coins appear within the snake platforms. The Silver Coins are only a distraction, however. Once you hit the P-Switch, quickly go to the platform above the snake platforms. Here, you'll find brick blocks that allow you to reach the second Star Coin. You must collect the Star Coin before the timer runs out, as it will disappear. It's a tricky one to find. Keep climbing and you'll find the third Star Coin surrounded by a snakeplatform and guarded by a skulled Piranha Plant. Approach with caution. Take the snake platform above to the boss door. This game's Mini Boss is Reznor, first seen in Super Mario World. It's standing on item blocks in a ferris-wheel configuration. All you have to door is hit the block underneath it. Do this quickly, as it will make the floor disappear. Hop on the blocks if necessary. This Fort has two. After you take out both of them, Roy will drop in from a chain, roar, and leave. He'll take Peach to the castle.

New Super Mario Bros.: 8-Fort 2

This Fort has snake platforms. It will take us past fire bars and spikes. At one point, there will be spikes on the ceiling and floor. Once you leave that area, quickly move to the very front of the platform, as it is going to rise up. You'll go through another area with spiked ceiling and floor. The first Star Coin will be in an alcove here. The midpoint is at the stone ledge on the left side. A small spike ball will appear and start rolling on the platform until it doubles back. There are Red Coins to get in this area. The platform will rise up to an area with fire bars. The second Star Coin will be nearby. When the platform comes out on the right side, hop back on, but be aware that another small spike ball is heading your way. Jump over it and get the third Star Coin. The platform will soon go straight up, so stay at the very front. It will take you to boss door. Bowser Jr. is wearing his mask and this battle takes place on a small platform in the lava. Defeat him and a bridge to Bowser's Castle appears. He takes Peach there.

New Super Mario Bros.: 8-Fort

This Fort has more platforming using sliding stone slabs while avoiding spikes. The first Star Coin is on the left side. Duck and let the stone slab push you under a gap. Go up and avoid the Spike Tops. The second Star Coin is on the left side. Keep climbing and you'll reach the midpoint and, eventually, the boss door. Before you go through the boss door, hit the flying item block, preferably in the middle of the room. Jump on it and hit the invisible block above, then jump off that block to reach the third Star Coin. Through the boss door, we find Bowser Jr. with his mask on, on moving stone platforms over jet engines. Use fireballs or the shell he throws for victory. He takes off with Peach to the castle.
