Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam -- Part 2: It's that Time Again!

Now that Paper Mario has joined the bros, they can reach new places. Near the tri-color block is a narrow crack. Press (Y) near it and Paper Mario will turn sideways to slip through the crack. Jump up the nearby hill and you'll find a Goomba carrying off a Paper Toad. Apparently, the Paper Toads are about to do some real work for a change. The bros approach and the Goomba leaves. Battle the level 3 Paper Paratroopas.

Take the southwest exit and you'll find some Biddybuds that will stack. There are coins, a Refreshing Herb, and a 1-up Mushroom in the item blocks. Return and take the northwest exit. There are more Paper Toads being carried off by Goombas. Battle them and defeat the Goombas in battle to free them. (Regardless of what enemies appear during the battle, defeating the Goombas will release the Paper Toads.) There are eight that need rescuing here. Walk to the left and Paper Mario will show off that he can flip sideways to pass throw narrow spaces. Talk to the Paper Toad to get him to come along.

Go west. At the top of the hill is a Paper Toad bouncing on Music Note Blocks. Time your jump to hit a block to knock him off. He went crazy because there aren't many 3D blocks where he's from. There's another Goomba with a Paper Toad on the hill. Walk to the south and you'll find a blue Paper Toad who's super fast. Walk near the water to find a fence made of Paper Toads. Talk to them and explain the speedy Paper Toad to get the Dash Socks. To use them, start moving and press and hold (X) to jump. Release (X) when you land to begin dashing. Run through the flowers for coins. To slide to catch someone, dash, then press (A), (B), or (Y) when the exclamation point appears. You'll use it to get the other two Paper Toads, and the speedy blue Paper Toad. Lakitu appears, saying he took the Paper Toads to Peach's Castle.

Head as far east as you can go. You can get the first strike on enemies by dashing. When you reach where you first met Paper Mario, someone has a delivery for the bros. It's a Toad with an item and letter. A Paper Toad wants to thank the bros for saving his friends. The item is something the bros can use in battle. The more Paper Toads the bros save, the more battle items the Paper Toads will make. Someone says they have orders to hunt down and destroy the bros. It's a small army of Goombas. In battle, Paper Mario has the Trio Attack command now. This allows Paper Mario to use Trio Attacks, which also consume BP.  The item is a giant cardboard hammer all three bros swing at enemies to turn them into paper. The first one is Trio Racquet, where the bros play racquet ball, using enemies as targets. All three bros must be able to move to use a Trio Attack.

While you're in the area, dash to the orange spring platform to be launched across the water. Go east and you'll find that parts of the environment are made of paper. Paper Mario says this is what his world looks like. Luigi doesn't think that they came from the book, pointing to some cardboard with Bowser's face on it. Dash into the spring to launch through the cardboard. Go east and a Toad says they need the bros' help. Bowser is invading Peach's Castle. Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later... Of course, there are two of them.

Meanwhile, in Peach's Castle, Peach hopes the bros are all right. Paper Peach thinks they should have run into Paper Mario at this point. Bowser laughs. Peach guesses it's that point in the story. Paper Bowser flies in on his clown copter. He wants both princesses, but how he's going to transport Peach is anyone's guess. Bowser flies in on his clown copter. The Toads panic, as per protocol and run off. Bowser asks Paper Bowser if he's trying to steal his thunder. They're still not getting along all that well. In the background, there are suddenly two paper princesses. One asks Mario to save her. Paper Bowser notes she sounds different. Bowser says it's kidnapping time. They both say nothing gets in the way of that and breath fire on the paper princesses. They chase the princesses into the throne room. The Bowsers surround them. The princesses try to leave the throne room, but Peach trips and falls. She calls for Mario

Starlow says they should return to the castle immediately. She thinks there may be time but Bowser disagrees. Both of them have their respective princess in their respective clown copter. Bowser introduces Paper Bowser to them. They found common ground in taking Mario down. They also found teaming up make kidnapping the princesses easier. They then squabble about kidnapping technique. Paper Bowser says their headed for his castle and that the bros will try to follow them, as per usual. Bowser gives them something to keep them busy.

It's Petey Piranha. He can pick up a bro and chomp on them, keeping them from battle for a while. Trio Attacks work on bosses. He'll jump to unleash a shockwave on the bros. Time your jumps to dodge. The Fire Flower attack does critical damage, so use it often. After a few attacks, Petey Piranha will get mad and chase the bros. Paper Mario will turn into an airplane. Move the airplane over the bro being attacked and have them jump to hold on. Hold the button until they land on the ground. Press (Y) as Paper Mario lands on Petey Piranha. If one of his attempts to grab a bro fails, he'll fall backwards. He'll take more damage this way.

Once defeated, a ? Card appears. A Toad can't believe one was found here. They can be used with Amiibo to create character cards. If you don't have Amiibo, you can sell the cards.

New Super Mario Bros. 2: 5-Fort

This level has rising lava, so be quick. Bounce off the music note blocks to the grate above and go through the door. The lava will start to rise. Quickly climb up the grates with Koopas on them and reach the I-shaped grate. It will start moving past jet engines. Avoid the engines and stay to the right to avoid spikes. Once most of it is past the grates, it rotate and appear H-shaped. Quickly jump right to another grate, then jump up for the first Star Coin. Quickly return to the moving grate and go on its left side, as it will split apart and the right side will sink into the lava. There are some Red Coins to the right. The grate will stop moving below a door. Quickly jump off the grate and go through the door. This leads to the midpoint and another door. The lava is still rising. There is a mini pipe near a jet engine. It leads to a P-Switch with Silver Coins. Climb up on the grate and it will start moving. Move right to avoid the spikes, then jump off once it passes the first set of spikes. Hop up the platforms and rejoin it. Quickly move right as it separates to get the second Star Coin. There will be a stationary grate between them. Hop over to the left grate and avoid the jet engines to get the third Star Coin. The boss door is ahead. There are four Reznor on two wheels. Once you defeat them, Ludwig appears and takes Peach to the castle.

Super Mario 3D Land: S1-3

This level looks significantly different. There's a cannon on an 8-bit item block. From there, we can see an 8-bit Goomba, Cheep-Cheep, and fireball, as well a fireworks. We aim for the ring and land on the Goomba. There are a couple of blocks that make Goombas pop out. We long jump down to the fireball for the first Star Coin, warping back to the item block cannon with an orange Mystery Box. We hop into the cannon at the top of the Goomba and aim for the ring in front of the 8-bit cloud. We collect all of the Red Coins for a 1-up. We hop into the cannon and aim for the Star Coin over a fireball, but we aimed too low and fell.
Take 2- We fell trying to reach the first fireball.
Take 3- We got the first Star Coin and a 1-up from Red Coins. We aim for the ring in front of the 8-bit Bullet Bill and land. We duck into small holes, one of which has a purple Mystery Box with lots of boxes. We take the cannon to the Cheep-Cheep, where we get a Coin Block over our head and hit the P-Switches for coins and Super Mario 3 musical notes, which give us a Statue Leaf- the gray leaf that lets us become a statue. We aim the cannon for the fireball for the third Star Coin and warp to the Cheep-Cheep. We aim, this time, for the highest 1-up, taking us to an 8-bit flagpole area with fireworks. We land at the top of the stairs and get a 1-up at the flagpole. We also get balloons.
Take 4- We get a 1-up from the Red Coins and aim for the fireball from the cloud. We aim above the Star Coin and successfully land and get it. We get a 1-up from the musical notes. We reach the flagpole.

Super Mario 3D Land: 4-1

This level starts off as a grassy mountain. There are Super Mario 2 musical notes in a shrub near the Piranhas. We use it to get a Fire Flower. We use the binoculars to find Toad, who throws a 1-up our way. At the top of the stairs is a brick block in the wall. There's a Koopa there, but we use a Tanooki Suit to break it. Inside is the first Star Coin. We ride the carousel up and spring to Coin Heaven. At the end is the second Star Coin. We reach the midpoint. To the left is a cannon, which we use to get the third Star Coin. We start walking up the tall tree near where we landed. At the top of the tree is the flagpole.

Super Mario 3D Land: 3-4

It's winter in this level, with appropriate music that reminds me of a piece from the Legend of Zelda. We must cross tightropes, some of which are crawling with Fuzzies. We bouncing up the tightropes attached to the tall tree and hit the purple arrow blocks from below so we can reach the first Star Coin. After crossing the gap with the tightrope, we warp using an orange Mystery Box. We cross a long tightrope, but hit a purple arrow block so we can reach a rainbow musical note block to Coin Heaven. We get a Starman and run through the enemies and get some coins, including the second Star Coin at the end. Next are two parallel tightropes, each with three Fuzzies. We can dodge them with another set of parallel tightropes above. We warp using an orange Mystery Box. We jump up the tightropes and cross another set of parallel tightropes. We drop down into the alcove for Super Mario 2 musical notes and a Tanooki Suit. While collecting the musical notes, we cross another tightrope to a flying item block that will take us to the third Star Coin and another orange Mystery Box, which takes us to the flagpole.

Super Mario 3D Land: 3-1

World 3 seems like a beach/ water world. 3-1 is more like a desert level, with Egyptian-themed music. We collect Super Mario 2 musical notes for a Tanooki Suit, passing Pokeys and enemies that look like small Squizzards. We walk around the right side of the tower and find a brick block to the second Star Coin. We hop into the cannon on the left side and aim for the 1-up, which is a cutout. An invisible block in the back has a real 1-up. We aim for the ring, pass a walking Thwomp, and go in the door. We pass the two Thwomps and use an orange Mystery Box to warp to the midpoint. Outside, we climb stairs that move in and out of the walls to another door. We miss a Red Coin on the way. Inside we see more walking Thwomps. At the end, we wall jump from the top of the Thwomp for the third Star Coin. We leave through the door and reach the flagpole.
We get a message: "Tap the world tabs on the Touch Screen to go back to the worlds you've visited before.
Take 2- We aim the cannon at the wall above the Star Coin on the moving yellow platform outside the tower to get it. We get a Tanooki Suit from the Red Coins. We get a 1-up at the goal.

Super Mario 3D Land: 2-3

Here's where things really start to look like Galaxy. We land on 8-bit Mario. The Item Block has a Propeller Block. The P-Switches make coins to collect for applause. The higher P-Switch requires the Propeller Block. All we have to do to activate the Propeller Block is to jump and hold down (A) or (B). We jump down to lower platforms, including an 8-Bit Mushroom. We get the second Star Coin by falling through the hoop to it and hold (A) to activate the Propeller to safety. Next is 8-bit Peach. We use the Starman to take out some green enemies for a ring of coins. We take an orange Mystery Box to an 8-bit area. We hop up the stairs and reach the flagpole.
Take 2- We grab a Tanooki Suit from 1-1. We get the musical notes, which play a Super Mario 3 remix, for a 1-up. We spin the gear on the mushroom for Red Coins for a 1-up. The gear on Peach takes us to the third Star Coin. We get two 1-ups at the goal, one for having the Propeller Block.
Take 3- There is a brick block concealing a gear on Mario's right foot. (All of the gears are concealed by brick blocks.) We spin it for a long time, reaching 8-bit Fire Luigi with the first Star Coin. We reach the goal for two 1-ups.

Super Mario 3D Land: 2-1

This level starts us outside a castle. We use the binoculars and Toad throws us Star Coin. We get a Super Shroom and a Tanooki Suit. We take out some cutout Goombas and spring on mushroom blocks to reach the first Star Coin. We get a 1-up for pounding the tall stack of Goombas. The green pipe takes us to an optical illusion room. The eye square adjusts the camera to reveal the true location of the Star Coin. The P-Switch to the left of the green pipe makes music notes that play Super Mario 2 music for a 1-up and applause. We climb up the green stairs and duck through a small hole for another 1-up. I tried to jump for the third Star Coin, but fell.
Take 2- We get the first two Star Coins and the musical notes for a Tanooki Suit. We get the third Star Coin by walking behind the stairs. We deal with the yellow platforms by transferring at the top. We spring to an orange Mystery Box and warp. We step on a green tile, which folds out to form a bridge with coins. We have a time limit to cross before it folds back on itself. Getting all the coins results in applause. We use another set to reach a spring to the flagpole. (You can activate it multiple times.)

Sea Slide Galaxy - Hurry, He's Hungry

Welcome to the Galaxy!
Mario
There are Silver Stars in the galaxy, but that's not what we're after. We go over to the newly finished cannon where we find a hungry Luma who wants 40 Star Bits. He transforms into another disappearing green tile planet and we use the cannon to reach it. When we land, we find musical notes that play a scale. We must collect them all. I decided to collect the musical notes in triangles, but messed up and had to long-jump to reach another set before the tiles disappeared. Once we collect all of the musica notes, the black hole in the center of the planet becomes a Star with its own gravity.
Star Get #73, 2736 Star Bits, 10 Lives

Luigi
This time was much harder for me. We fed the hungry Luma and launched to the planet using the cannon. I fell in the black hole 6 times before successfully collecting all of the musical notes. My strategy was a bit more refined: I picked a side and only went to triangles at right angles, covering one half, then long-jumped to the other half.

Gold Leaf Galaxy - The Bell on the Big Tree

Welcome to the Galaxy!
Mario
We land in the galaxy, where we find some Cataquacks roaming around. We go up the slope and find a Catacquack fenced in. We let him boost us to the Sling Star above, which takes us to the other side of the planet where the big tree is. We walk around the tree and find a bubble maker. We hop in the bubble (if you miss it, just walk around and another one will appear) and use our Star Cursor to blow the bubble around. About halfway up the tree is a platform and a bell. We use the Star Cursor to ring the bell, which makes musical notes appear around the tree. They play the underwater theme from Super Mario Bros. The musical notes will disappear after a time, so we have to be quick and careful to get them all while floating in the bubble. Getting them all makes the Star appear. We use the bubble to reach the Star.
Star Get #66, 2 Coins, 2470 Star Bits, 9 Lives

Luigi
We land in the galaxy and get the Cataquack to boost us to the Sling Star. We hop in the bubble, ring the bell with our Star Cursor, and collect the musical notes for the Star.
Star Get #66, 2 Coins, 2888 Star Bits, 44 Lives

Hurry-Scurry Galaxy - Shrinking Satellite

Welcome to the Galaxy!
Mario
We land in a small galaxy, where a remix of the underground theme plays. There is a path of disappearing green tiles. We follow the path, getting a 1-up and long-jumping to the next safe platform. We get some coins from the item block and fall through the tile frame to the next planet. It is a large rhombicuboctahedron-like planet nearly covered in the disappearing tiles. There are musical notes on some of the tiles that play a musical scale. There is a black hole in the center. Once we get all of the musical notes, the black hole will turn into the Star. Just drop through any tile to get the Star.
Star Get #19, Galaxy Complete!, 10 Coins, 1139 Star Bits, 10 Lives

Luigi
I jump to the 1-up and the safe area. I get the coins and fall to the Launch Star. I got all of the musical notes, even those over tiles that have disappeared. The black hole turns into the Star and gravity pulls us to the Star.
Star Get #19, Galaxy Complete!, 10 Coins, 771 Star Bits, 20 Lives
