Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam -- Part 20: The Evasive Staircase

Go into the cave. There are Shy Guys here. They can throw Paper Shy Guys at you. Use the dirt wall to climb higher, then break the stone brick block. This lead to an exit to the clouds. Ahead are Lakitu researching the summit to see where the cardboard platforms come from. Go east and you'll find a stumped Toad. Solve the puzzle of moving the blocks on the dirt wall, but you have two blocks on a single puzzle. Move the pink target as follows: up, left, down, right, down, left. For the blue crescent, up. left, up left, down, left, down. He'll give you a Blunt Hammer DX. Return to the west. Walk to the left and use Trio Glide through the ring to reach the cave.

Inside, the bros find a complex maze they'll have to navigate using Trio Drill and Trio Glide. Exit to the east. Trio Glide from the wooden platform to reach a higher wooden platform with items and coins. Go east. Luigi spots something. There's a strange gate in front of a large door in the side of the mountain. Use Trio Hammer on the large red button to make the red parts of the gate disappear. Walk to the south, then go east.

You'll find a panicking Lakitu here. He witnessed Toads being abducted. Agree to help him and he'll take you there. The bros must rescue the Toads while standing on a cloud. They will fail if three Toads are abducted. The Toads' colors could be a hint. To rescue them, jump when the minions fly overhead. Avoid jumping into bombs. Your reward is the Bold Heart accessory. Climb up the wooden platform and Trio Glide to the west. Use Trio Hammer to flip the spikes. Go west. Hit the blue button to remove the gate from the door. There's an elevator inside. Approach the door and hit the ! Block to make a path to the west.

Go through the door and get on the elevator. They reach a command center in the clouds. Starlow marvels that this evil lair has been on the summit the entire time. It’s the location of the cannons firing paper minions and cardboard platforms. The minions notice the bros are here, since there’s no way they have access cards. They sound off a Code Red and a Code Green. Big Bob-omb drops in, telling minions to relax. Starlow doesn’t feel she can relax in this situation. Big Bob-omb initiates the self-destruct sequence. The minions panic. No one can know about this mission, so Big Bob-omb will blow everyone up. The minions flee, while Starlow wants Big Bob-omb to relax and talk about this. Big Bob-omb repeats her earlier sentiments about relaxing.
The battle starts. The bros have 4 minutes to defeat Big Bob-omb. A boss battle on such a short time limit will be tricky. He’ll toss Bob-ombs at the bros. Jump on them to send them back. He can also pick up a bro and throw them. Counter with the hammer. Another attack is to roll a giant bomb. Counter with the hammer repeatedly to stun him. This will add a minute to the timer. Do not use jump attacks as his crown is pointy. Drill Shell also does good damage while taking a small amount of time to execute. After a while, he’ll get angry. If you run out of time, Big Bob-omb will explode. Hold (X) to Emergency Block. Even with that, the bros may not survive, even if you use a Battle Card. After a while, he’ll say he can’t lose to the bros because he’s a king and has a mustache. He then realizes they do as well. With that, he is defeated.

Two Lakitu appear with a big Paper Toad delivery. They drop off several Paper Toads. They know the drill, which is to help the bros reach Neo Bowser Castle. Toadette figured out a way for them to help and they’re helpful for the bros rescuing them. They’re going to form an ambitious set of stairs. It spirals higher and higher. At the base, they ask if they’ve reached the castle, but as with every game of Telephone, the message is soon changed. Somehow, the message comes back crystal clear that they’ve made it. A Toad says Toadette miscalculated and that there are more Paper Toads than necessary. It’s probably because we saved them all. The extras want to help, so they’ll form a new Bros. Attack: Toad Trail.

Head up the Paper Toad staircase with the Paper Toads cheering the bros on. A giant cannonball drops nearby. The staircase moves to dodge the onslaught and tells the bros to keep going. You’ll have to stop for some more evasive maneuvers.
At the castle door, Iggy’s surprised the bros made it. He leaves to spread the word.

Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam -- Part 17: Ignoring Toadette for her Ultimate Plan

Neo Bowser Castle has left Peach's Castle in ruins. Peach says the destruction is terrible. They can't let Bowser get away with this, but he could attack again at any time. Starlow says they'd need to go to his castle to stop him, which isn't going to be easy because it's flying. Toadette walks into the throne room, saying she has an idea. She's working on an experiment, but will need a few dozen more Paper Toads. The number they need will bring them to 230 Paper Toads. She's got an awesome idea, but we don't know what it is yet. She gets support from the Marios. Luigi pouts because he wasn't mentioned, but Toadette says when she asked for Mario, his input was implied. That's not much better. Toadette mentions going to Mount Brrr first. She also gives Paper Mario a new Trio Attack: Trio Shuriken.

The bros need to head to Mount Brrr, but a Toad says some paper platforms are blocking the way to Gloomy Woods. There isn't a pipe they can use. But, you can get started rescuing Paper Toads from the Lakitu Info Center in Sunbeam Plains. First quest is Paper Toad Sand Scramble. Chase down a stack of 20 speedy Paper Toads. After you catch a few of them, they'll split up and hide. If they're moving along a wall, use Trio Grab from a bridge to the south.

Fly Guy Flyby involves chasing down Fly Guys holding Paper Toads in under 13 minutes. One is to the right of where you start. Climb up the rock and use Trio Hammer on the moving box. The Fly Guy will fly to the north. Use the Trio Hammer to flip over spikes to the south. Use Trio Grab to chase the Fly Guy, then Trio Glide to catch it while it's flying in place. The one to the south of there is hiding in a tree stump. Send in Paper Mario to hit the Music Note Block. Chase it over to some more tree stumps, then Trio Glide to it.

Paper Toad Freeze-Out involves finding 12 Paper Toads before they freeze. They're hiding in stores, behind trees, in the snow, by the pipe, in the Lakitu Info Center, in the Toad House, and behind shops. You may find Fuzzies behind the shops.

Finally, there's Paper Toad Patrol, where you have to save the Paper Toads all over Mount Brrr. Some are hiding in snowmen. Use the Trio Hammer. Use Trio Glide to save Paper Toads from flying enemies. To hit the ! Block, hit the cannonballs with the hammer. Rescue Paper Toads in bubbles with Trio Glide. After saving the Paper Toads, a delivery Toad has a message for Toadette. She says they'll need a stack of Paper Toads to reach Neo Bowser Castle. She says to head for Mount Brrr, but still save any Paper Toads. We're going to keep saving Paper Toads.

Toadette says to head for Mount Brrr, but there are more Paper Toads to rescue. Paper Toad Trail Trials involves collecting Paper Toads while dodging the Sandmaarghs. Paper Toad Shuffle involves finding more Paper Toads. To catch the speedy yellow one, chase it onto the cardboard rock and flip it using Trio Hammer. Use Trio Hammer on the nearby tree to get another one.

Bubble Trouble involves saving 36 Paper Toads in bubbles. To save the ones high above, go right to find an orange spring platform. Once all of these Paper Toads are saved, you'll get a new Trio Attack: Trio Meteor. Also, we've saved every Paper Toad.

Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam -- Part 12: Papercraft Ice Capades

After you check out the shops, go to the Lakitu Info Center. Toadette meets the bros here. She'll be working on the next papercraft here while the bros rescue more Paper Toads. The first mission is Paper Toad Tailgate. A Sandmaargh will follow the bros. Jump after the icon blinks three times. Deliver the Paper Toads to the Lakitu. Just touch them to get them to join the group. Return to Lakitu when you have all 10. Paper Toad Flurry involves catching the Paper Toads before they hit the ground. Blue Toads fall faster than ones. Touch them to catch them. Jumping makes it easier. There are 40 Paper Toads, so stay alert. Paper Toad Peel-Off involves Drill Dashing into Paper Toads stuck to the wall. One is hiding behind a stone brick block to the far right. This must be some papercraft if Toadette needs this many Paper Toads. When all of the Paper Toads are saved, a delivery from Peach's Castle arrives. It's a new Trio Attack, Trio Whirligig. Toadette says she'll start working on the papercraft while the bros save the princesses and deal with the Bowser Jrs. A Lakitu goes on a delivery, so he stops blocking the other exit. A Paper Toad in the village wonders if there are two Luigis, since there are two Marios. We still haven't heard about Paper Luigi. Go through the east exit in the Lakitu Info Center. It will lead to a pipe.

The pipe leads to the part of the mountain with the puzzle. Go east. Cross to the right side of the area, then climb up the dirt wall. Keep climbing and you'll find a Lakitu. He says you can't cross the bridge ahead slowly. You'll need to jump at the end. Go east. There are some bean spots here. At the top of the stairs, someone tells Bowser Jr. to come along. The Kameks are telling the Bowser Jrs. to return to the villa. The Bowser Jrs. don't want to go back as they're playing with their papercraft and the Kameks told them to play here. Paper Kamek says the bros will be here any moment. Paper Bowser Jr. isn't scared of the bros, especially with their papercraft. The bros walk up and the Kameks notice. Paper Bowser Jr. wants to crush the bros with the papercraft, so some Koopas appear. Toadette appears with the newest papercraft: Papercraft Peach. It comes with its own parasol, so it can float gently to the ground. When you dash, the parasol opens up to deflect projectiles. It can fly farther with the parasol when tossed. Press (A) just before landing to deal extra damage.

There are Papercraft Mechakoopas here, as well as Papercraft Spikes. The battleground has spikes and large patches of ice, so be careful. The Papercraft Mechakoopas will just charge at you, but the Papercraft Spikes will toss spike balls at you. Deflect them by dashing. If the spike balls miss, they'll end up on the battlefield. Dash into them to hit other enemies. Clear out the enemies to make Papercraft Bowser Jr. appear. It's larger than Papercraft Peach and quite fast. It can easily cross over the spikes and will attack with red shells. Dash over the spikes to cross them without taking damage. Dash into Papercraft Bowser Jr. when it has its back turned and numbers appear to knock it off its pedestal. After Papercraft Bowser Jr. takes a lot of damage, it will fill in the spike pits with snow. Use spike balls to hit the papercraft more easily. It will start shooting multiple green shells. Do more damage and the Bowser Jrs. will complain their papercraft is getting scratched up. They'll drop bombs. Dash into them to send them back to Papercraft Bowser Jr. Keep attacking and keep healed to win. You may want to clear out the other enemies before dealing with Papercraft Bowser Jr., but it can generate more.

The Bowser Jrs. are upset that their papercraft was destroyed. They blame the Kameks for making it so flimsy. Kamek tried to warn them, but Bowser Jr. finds the advice less than helpful. All four leave for the castle. Walk to the east and you'll find a red disk with Bowser's emblem on it. The bros grab it. Starlow thinks it's familiar, so it might belong to in the Twinsy Tropic Dungeon. Peach screams nearby. Go east. The Bowser Jrs. are leaving and the Kameks are carrying the princesses on their brooms. The bros rush to save them, but Mario and Luigi fall off the cliff. Paper Mario jumps after them and makes a parachute for Mario. Luigi doesn't have anything, until Mario catches up with him. Starlow and Mario are impressed with Paper Mario, while Luigi's face down in the snow. Mario wants to try, but can't. Starlow doesn't know where the princesses are, but Mario thinks the red disk from before might be important. Suggest that they saw it in the Twinsy Tropics, in the dungeon, on a suspicious wall. Starlow thinks it may be the key to getting into Bowser's Castle.

Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam -- Part 10: Enemy or Ally?

The way forward is now clear. Before you go north, walk to the south to lower the other drawbridge. There are Piranha Plants here. Walk to the east, near the stone brick block and Wiggler will show the bros another electrified gate. This one has two generators to destroy. The path to the one on the left has a lot of mud, so you'll have to move quickly. For the one on the right, walk up the ramp to the Bomb Bud, then walk up and off the ramp. Use the northern most orange spring to reach the stump you need and throw the Bomb Bud. Wiggler goes on ahead to see if there's more trash. Go west to get a few items, then try to go north.

Kamek appears and places a force field on the path ahead. He is offended when Starlow refers to him as the "non-paper version". He will attack the bros. If the bros are hit three times, it's over. Grab Bomb Buds to throw at Kamek. He'll be moving around, so time your throws. After the first hit, he'll use a force field to defend against Bomb Buds. Starlow notices the force field lowers right as he's about to use his magic. The timing is tricky for this one. The next time, he'll make two copies of himself. Keep track of them as they move, then throw the Bomb Bud when they move backwards. After this, Kamek vows they haven't seen the last of him and flies off. The force field disappears. Starlow notes that Kamek is trying very hard to keep them from Mount Brrr and wonders why.

There's a Lakitu Info Center here, but no new quests. There's a challenge board with prizes for clearing enough challenges. Talk to the other Lakitu at the desk to clear more challenges. The prize for clearing 20 challenges is a Battle Card. Walk to the north and you'll find Wiggler confronting Paper Kamek about littering the forest. Paper Kamek calls him an irritating insect and zaps him with magic, enraging him. He convinces Wiggler that the bros are the enemies and he attacks.

Wiggler charges his attack power and slams onto the ground, unleashing two shock waves. Afterwards, he'll target a bro and spit a seed at them (or more if he's aiming for Paper Mario). He'll then chase a bro, who has to clear out the obstacles with his hammer. Paper Kamek is also part of the battle. He'll give Wiggler a giant paper ball to run on. Paper Mario folds into a boomerang for the Boomerang Guard. Aim at the ball and throw the boomerang back and forth. The ball will move, so keep aiming. Paper Spear Guys will also join the battle. Paper Kamek may also attack with magic. Counter with the hammer and it will hit Wiggler. If you're going to use a Trio Attack, use Trio Kite. Trio Racquet allows you to hit the segments, which won't do any damage. After enough damage, Wiggler will return to normal and you can battle Paper Kamek directly. After a while, he'll revive Wiggler. It is possible that Paper Kamek will fall before Wiggler does due to counterattacks. If so, Wiggler will return to normal and the battle will end.

The bros haven't seen the last of Paper Kamek, according to him. Wiggler doesn't know what got into him, but thanks the bros for snapping him out of it. He's feeling very tired, however. He collapses. Paragoombas appear and carry him off. The bros are sad, until he asks them why. Wiggler reappears as a butterfly, Flutter. He flies them to Mount Brrr.

Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam -- Part 9: Feeding the Cleaning Beast

In Peach's Castle, the Toads say the situation is awful. A Toad spotted the Bowser Jrs. with the princesses on Mount Brrr. That's where Bowser's villa is. I thought he'd pick a more tropical place. At the villa, Bowser Jr. enjoys the view while Paper Bowser Jr. checks out the papercraft that looks like them. The princesses are cold and have no idea where they are. They have each other for company and warmth. They also wonder where the bros are. After a while, they start talking about their appearance. They want to change their hair, possibly going shorter, but someone talks them out of it. The reason being it's not princess-like, but clearly, these people have never met Daisy. Paper Peach suggests changing the dress, but Peach says it's her favorite. The minions watch them with curiosity. The princesses plan a fashion show after they escape to show off their new looks. The minions seem to be in love with the princesses.

Back in Peach's Castle, the Toads are imagining how things are going for the princesses. The bros set off for Mount Brrr, which is north of Gloomy Woods. Toadette says she'll prep a papercraft for the bros. One lone courageous Toad sets forth to help save the princesses. Head to Sunbeam Plains. At level 12, the bros will reach Boomerang Rank. Go as far north as possible, then east once. Use the Trio Grab to move to the north. You'll see Paper Petey Piranha chasing the brave Toad from before. Paper Petey Piranha tosses the Toad away. Paper Petey Piranha will take the Copy Block and make copies of himself. He'll then charge at the bros. Use the hammer to counter. If a copy is defeated, it will fall onto the ground. Two copies will jump into the air and land to create shockwaves. Jump to dodge. After a while, the copies will heal and reform the stack. At some point, all of the copies may be down. Attack the one that lifts its head periodically. They may then shuffle around. Keep track of them, as the real one won't lift its head anymore. When Paper Petey Piranha gets angry it will chase the bros. Remember the order each copy flies to which side, then Airplane Dodge as each copy appears on the ground. If they're not close to each other, a normal jump will suffice. If you're having difficulty keeping all three bros alive, just leave one down so this attack is easier to dodge.

After the battle, go north. There's a Toad Village, with Yoshis present. The Toads have seen a lot of Bowser's minions lately, some working on a gate. The red Toad House has a Toad with a quiz.
1. What does a Paratroopa become when it loses its wings? Choose Koopa.
2. How many fangs does Bowser Jr. have? One
3. Kamek's attacks take the shape of circle, square and what else? Triangle
4. What baddie is this? Hammer Bro
5. What hairstyle does Toadette have? Braids
For winning, you get 3 Speed Beans. When you're ready, go north.

Paper Kamek appears, saying he doesn't have time to deal with the bros. He turns his magic into cardboard to block the path. Walk to the west and you'll find a berry growing on a tree. Jump to grab it. Wiggler is nearby. It's hungry. Give it the berry. Apparently, Wiggler guards the forest, but couldn't because he was hungry. He plows through the cardboard. He blocks the path to the east. He's hungry again, and won't move until he's fed 10 more berries. Walk back to where you found the first berry and Trio Grab to cross the gap. Walk up the stump and cross to the other stump with (X). Use the Trio Hammer on the tree to make three berries drop. Walk around to the left and Trio Hammer the stump so you can reach the berry with Trio Grab. Go north. You'll find some Ninji hiding by the walls. If you hit them with one attack, they'll be able to dodge that same attack, so don't use jump attacks twice in a row on the same Ninji. Dash into the orange spring to the left to jump up to the next platform. There are Paper Spear Guys here. Go south.

On the tree, there's a Paratroopa with a berry. Bowser likes berries and the Paratroopa needs a promotion. Trio Grab it from it anyway. Return north. Use the orange spring to find more berries. Give the ten berries to Wiggler. Unfortunately, he's still too weak to move. It needs dessert. A Yoshi appears with a melon. Of course, Wiggler's favorite food is a melon. Follow the Yoshi and return to the village. The Yoshi is reluctant to give up the melon, but is willing to wager it as a prize in a race. A Lakitu will explain the races. It's a race around the village, where there are tree stumps, mud, and Dash Panels. You can't change directions after you've hit a Dash Panel. You must pass through the flag at the halfway point. Get too close to Yoshi and he'll ground pound you. You can avoid the shock by jumping. Use (X) to jump. Towards the end, move closer to the item shop so you'll hit the spring to jump over the mud. Yoshi reluctantly hands over the melon when you win. He says he has a faster pal in the mountains the bros should challenge. Wiggler enjoyed eating the melon and spitting out the seeds. Wiggler walks east and finds more cardboard. He plows through it with ease.

Go east and walk to the north. There's an electric fence that Wiggler can't get past. Wiggler notices a nearby Bomb Bud that could get rid of the gate. You can't grab the Bomb Bud from where you stand. Walk a little to the south and use the Trio Hammer on the draw bridge. Cross the bridge and Nabbit appears. Grab the Bomb Bud and throw it to the rock Nabbit's standing on. Nabbit falls into the water and the chunks of rock form a bridge. Nabbit jumps out of the water and leaves the Bomb Derby Bro attack behind. Walk across the rock bridge to find another Bomb Bud. Toss it onto the gate's generator by walking up the ramp and pressing (Y). The gate is no longer electrified and drops away. Wiggler goes north to clean up the ahead.

Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam -- Part 8: Troubled Toads in Paradise

The bros exit the dungeon through the pipe to the Twinsy Tropics, a tropical paradise where there are many Koopas. One Toad doesn't know where they are and wants to return to Peach's Castle. The Toads agree to scope out the area in the meanwhile as thanks for saving them. There's a Toad Village to the west, but many Toads are too scared to venture out there, due to the Koopas. Go east and you'll find a dead end with a Grab Pole. Use the Trio Grab to grab the pole across the gap to reach a new area. Walk to the south and you'll see a rock formation with a gap. Send Paper Mario through for an item block with an accessory for him. There's a donut-shaped area to the east with coins and Supersyrup Jars. Walk around for more item blocks with coins. Return to previous area.

Battle the Koopas and head west. Send Paper Mario through the gap for another accessory, this time for Mario and Luigi. Nearby is a Toad with a quiz. He's pondering the other side of the ocean, so he'll quiz you later. Go north to the Toad Village. There are more Koopas here. Walk to the west to the dock and you'll find a sad Paper Toad who wants to fold up into a boat and sail home. He notices the bros and is startled, as that soliloquy was private. Mario expresses interest in crossing the sea and the Paper Toads says he could make a boat. He needs more Toads and there's a Lakitu Info Center to the east. In the red Toad House, talk to the pensive Toad and he'll say some Toads didn't make it out of the dungeon. Offer to save them and you'll be warped there.

The Toads are freaking out. They must be corralled into the safe zone within the time limit of three minutes. There are blocks you can hit to add time. Clear out the ores and build bridges to herd the Toads. It can be a little tricky, but you'll need to clear out most of the ore, as Toads are hiding behind it. Back in the village, there are three shops. The green shop sells Battle Cards. Go east and you'll find Cheep-Cheeps and Urchins to battle. The Urchins won't attack, but if you do, they'll explode. Guard with (X). At the Lakitu Info Center, which is brand new, there are a couple of missions.

The first one is Tropical Paper Toad Hunt. Some are held by enemies, some must be chased, and others are trapped in bubbles. Approach the bubbles to make them lift in the air, then activated the orange spring platform to pop them. If they don't lift into the air, use Trio Grab. Sometimes, just being in Trio Grab's tower formation is enough. Others are hiding past the gaps in rocks. Flip over rocks with Trio Hammer to find more. For the ones in bubbles on the east side, dash when the bubble is close to the ground. Fly Guy Patrol involves rescuing the Paper Toads without being spotted by Fly Guys. You can be spotted twice without failing, but you'll be placed back at the start. Just follow the path. Once you save them all, there are enough to make a boat.

I decided to go east first, but you can't go very far. Meet the Paper Toads at the dock. They've built an impressive ship and are thrilled to get off the island. They won't be riding in the boat; the Lakitu will take them to Peach's Castle. Before they set sail, Luigi invites on the Toads from the dungeon. Paper Mario becomes the sail and they get underway. Unfortunately, one Toad is left behind. They dock in Sunbeam Plains. The Toads notice the changes and say to check out Peach's Castle.

Use the Trio Grab to cross the water. There are Monty Moles here. They throw rocks while getting closer to the bros. Keep going west and you'll find a Lakitu Info Center. The Lakitu the bros met outside Peach's Castle is here. He says the pipe in the Info Center is open. It leads to an arcade. You can redo boss and papercraft battles, or put your Bros./Trio Attack skills to the test for points to use in the gear shops. Go west when you're ready. A Toad will appear when you cross the river. Something's happened at Peach's Castle. The bros should go see for themselves.

Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam -- Part 5: Double Pokey Tower Power

The bros have to get past the Pokeys in Doop Doop Dunes Grotto. There are Paper Spinies wandering around down here. Walk to the south and you'll find some Pokey-shaped plants. Use the Trio Hammer to get rid of them. The trick for the taller ones is to knock away segments with Mario, then quickly unleash the Trio Hammer. Nearby, you'll find a pipe out of the grotto. Hit the switch to raise a platform so you can come back to the grotto. You'll also find Sandmaarghs, creatures that will dive into the sand, then surface to attack. Exit to the southwest.

Walk southwest to find more of the plants. Hit the one farther south into the north one to clear a path. Walk up that path to hit a switch, which raises a rock to the south. Walk across the rock to find another plant, with one on a moving platform to the north. Clear off the north plant and cross the gap on the yellow platform. Follow the path around to a high rock near another pipe. Step on the yellow platform. It will take you to a large yellow platform with a plant. Hit the plant into the plants on the nearby rocks. The timing can be a little tricky. One platform has an item block with a Steady Hammer. The other has a ! Block that will make a spring appear so you can reach the other yellow platform with a plant. Hit the two plants you pass to clear the way to the pipe. Hit the switch before you go through the pipe to raise the platform.

The pipe leads to an oasis in the dunes. A Paper Toad appears, asking the bros to help. Bowser's minions kidnapped his friends. All seven must be rescued within the time limit of 20 minutes. One is to the north. There are stone brick blocks near a Fly Guy with a Paper Toad. Destroy two block in the left and middle columns to reach it and engage it in battle. The time limit continues during battle. If you need to reset the blocks, hit the ! Block. Fly Guys will pass around a bomb. Defeat the one with the bomb to make it drop the bomb to hurt its allies. Approach the Paper Toad to save it. Walk south and you'll find another Fly Guy with a Paper Toad. Use the spring to reach it. After the battle, walk east. Walk to the right to the spring. Spring to the stone block, then spring again to a plant. Hit it at the Fly Guys. When you hit the Fly Guy with the Paper Toad, it will attack you. Walk to the left and you'll find Sandmaarghs and springs. Use the spring when the Fly Guy flies toward the bros to attack it. There are two Paper Toads in this situation. Go north and walk to the left. Dash into the orange spring platform to reach the top of the sand flow. Go down it to find a couple of Fly Guys. I finished with just under seven minutes to spare.

Afterwards, the bros will return to the Oasis, where there's a Lakitu Info Hut. Starlow asks the Paper Toads if they can build the bros something to make them jump really high. Lakitu says they need eight more Paper Toads to finish the project. Walk to the north to find a pipe. This will allow you to warp around the Mushroom Kingdom. Right now, you can go to Sunbeam Plains. To the left is a pensive Blue Toad that has a quiz.
1. During battles in Doop Doop Dunes, which of the following does Sandmaargh do? Attacks by gobbling you up.
2. What's the max number of times you can kick the shell in the 3D Red Shell Bros. Attack? Seven
3. Which of these is a surprised Starlow? The right silhouette
4. How many fingers does Bowser have on each hand? Three. Thumb doesn't count!
5. Which of the following is Princess Peach not wearing? A necklace
The bros win 3 Defense Beans for winning.

Go into the Lakitu Info Hut to save some Paper Toads. The first challenge is The Stone Prison. You must smash the stone blocks without squishing the Paper Toad encased in crystal. All the Paper Toads need to do is reach the ground. Stones will hang in the air if they're hooked over something. You'll save three Paper Toads this way. Safe by a Sandslide is next. Save all of the Paper Toads on the sand flow. Avoid the bombs and smash brick blocks with your hammer or Trio Hammer. Everything flows towards you, including coins. It's trickier than it looks. The five here are the last you need to get the thing to make you jump high. Soon after, you get a paper trampoline delivery. You also get Trio Kite, a new Trio Attack. Return through the pipe to the grotto.

Go east and go near the Heart Block. Mario will place the paper trampoline. Step on it and the bros will be launched above the clouds. Starlow is impressed. You'll land back in the grotto, near the Pokeys. Hit the Pokey segments with your hammer to knock them down to size. It's time to battle them. Paper Tower Power Pokey will roll itself into a wheel. Repeatedly hit it away with the hammer. Big Pokey will lie on its side and roll around repeatedly. Jump to dodge. The Fire Flower does critical damage to both. Paper Tower Power Pokey will hit Big Pokey's segments into the bros. Use the hammer to counter. The Pokeys will chase the bros. Use the Airplane Dodge. If both attack at the same time, use Airplane Dodge on the bro attacked by Big Pokey and have the other bro just jump. Starlow says the Pokeys will regenerate segments if one has more than the other, so the bros should attack them equally. If Big Pokey has 4 or fewer segments, it won't hit Paper Mario when it rolls around. Attacks like Trio Raquet and Fire Flower work best. Once they lose all other segments, you can jump on them. They'll be dazed for a few turns. If you defeat only one, the other one will get angry. Keep yourself healed and keep attacking to win.

After you defeat the Pokeys, heal and jump on the paper trampoline again. Press (A) near the bridge to grab it. On the back wall, send Paper Mario into the gap a few times for some items. Go east and you'll find Bowser's Castle isn't far away. Approach the east exit and a Papercraft Kamek will appear. The two Kameks argue over the aesthetics. Paper Toads inform the bros that they made a new papercraft.

Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam -- Part 3: On the Shoulders of Dancing Toads

I backtracked a little to the orange spring platform near Peach's Castle. The item block on the island has some Cozy Wear. Go north of where you battled Petey Piranha. You'll find some Paper Toads to the right, who are thankful to see the bros. They're startled when a Paper Magikoopa appears. He orders some Goombas to bring in a giant papercraft Goomba. He says the cardboard in this world is of very high quality. The Goombas drop the papercraft, blocking the path to the desert. They say it's too heavy. The Paper Magikoopa says the cardboard is of higher quality than the minions in this world. He approaches the bros and the Paper Toads flee to the north. He says they won't be going that way anytime soon, so they shouldn't bother trying. He leaves and Toadette appears, saying the papercraft is something she's been dreaming about. She knows she can build something to destroy the papercraft Goomba. She's going to need more Paper Toads and a bunch just fled.

Go north and the Paper Toads realize they reached a dead end. They're freaking out and want to go home. The bros have to herd the Paper Toads through a gap in the ground to a fenced in area, without letting them reach the exit. If one escapes, you fail. You can retry without penalty. Short dashes into them are effective to push them back, but some may escape when you turn corners. Running in circles in front of them and not through them will push them in the direction you want. When some are close to the gap, repeatedly press the displayed button to push them through. When all 20 are rounded up, Toadette appears and thanks the bros. She needs a few more, however. Lakitu appears, having overheard her. A couple more Lakitu appear to transport the Paper Toads. He says to visit the Lakitu Information Hut, the last hut on the right in this area, to get more info on the Paper Toad situation. Everyone else leaves.

In the fenced area where the Paper Toads were rounded up, there are a couple of item blocks, one with a nut. In the left hut, there's a Toad who thinks he's a know-it-all. He wants to match wits with the bros. They must answer 3 of 5 questions correctly. Win and you get three Heart Beans.
1. Who is this? Nabbit
2. How did Paper Mario first appear in this world? Fluttered down from the sky
3. Who did you battle first? Paper Goomba
4. Which one is Toad? (Pick the correct silhouette)
5. What happens when an enemy runs into you from behind? I fall down
The Toad says there are 4 other Toads like him with quizzes.

Go into the Lakitu Info Center. Lakitu says the Paper Toads made it safely to the castle. Starlow wants more info on Paper Toad locations and makes the mistake of mentioning compensation. Lakitu says it'll cost 5000 coins. Starlow says they can't afford that, so Lakitu offers them a special deal of 10 coins. Talk to the attendant and they'll warp you to the location of the Paper Toads.

The first quest is Paper Toad Hide-and-Seek. The Paper Toads are hiding all over the village. One is hiding on the item store's sign. Two are hiding behind a rock near the Lakitu info center and run off when you find them. Slide into them to catch them. One is on the item shop floor. There's one on the plant in the gear shop, and behind the shelf. Talk to the owner a few times to get him to notice the Paper Toad. One's in the know-it-all's house. Slide to catch him. One's hiding on the fence. The last two are in the fenced in area.

The second quest is Paper Toad Pursuit. The Paper Toads form three stacks for safety. They'll run off, so dash and slide. Catch one stack and the other two will split up. Push them together to form stacks to slow them down. Follow the trail of flowers to make them stack up. After the mission, Lakitu says the Paper Toads are hard at work on the papercraft. Go south to meet Toadette. Approach the papercraft Goomba and you'll find Toadette hasn't arrived yet. More Goombas appear and pick up the papercraft with ease. The bros run off a short distance, but someone has what they need. Toads carry a papercraft Mario. The bros jump on the hat. It's time to battle. The goal is to reduce the HP of other papercrafts to zero. Papercraft Mario's HP meter will go down if it takes damage. Move with the Circle Pad. Press [R] to turn 180 degrees, if you have to change directions in a hurry. Press [L] to make the camera face the same direction as Papercraft Mario.

At the start of the battle, listen to the rhythm and press (Y) in time to charge up the Toads. Use (B) to dash into the smaller papercrafts. Press (A) to have the Toads toss Papercraft Mario onto other papercrafts. If the papercrafts are clustered, you can combo the hits. Dash into brick blocks for coins. The item blocks have papercraft Mushrooms to restore papercraft health. Recharge the Toads if necessary. Defeat all of the papercrafts and Papercraft Megacrinkle Goomba appears. There's a smaller papercraft with it. Dash into them to knock them off their pedestals, then throw Papercraft Mario onto them. After a decent amount of damage, the Paper Goomba controlling Megacrinkle Goomba will get angry and will dodge your dashes more easily. Dodge its dash attack and wait for it to get dizzy to launch an attack. You'll get an Iron-Ball Hammer, DEF Mush Jams, and some items for winning. The Paper Goomba says he'll get the bros next time and leaves for the desert.

Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam -- Part 2: It's that Time Again!

Now that Paper Mario has joined the bros, they can reach new places. Near the tri-color block is a narrow crack. Press (Y) near it and Paper Mario will turn sideways to slip through the crack. Jump up the nearby hill and you'll find a Goomba carrying off a Paper Toad. Apparently, the Paper Toads are about to do some real work for a change. The bros approach and the Goomba leaves. Battle the level 3 Paper Paratroopas.

Take the southwest exit and you'll find some Biddybuds that will stack. There are coins, a Refreshing Herb, and a 1-up Mushroom in the item blocks. Return and take the northwest exit. There are more Paper Toads being carried off by Goombas. Battle them and defeat the Goombas in battle to free them. (Regardless of what enemies appear during the battle, defeating the Goombas will release the Paper Toads.) There are eight that need rescuing here. Walk to the left and Paper Mario will show off that he can flip sideways to pass throw narrow spaces. Talk to the Paper Toad to get him to come along.

Go west. At the top of the hill is a Paper Toad bouncing on Music Note Blocks. Time your jump to hit a block to knock him off. He went crazy because there aren't many 3D blocks where he's from. There's another Goomba with a Paper Toad on the hill. Walk to the south and you'll find a blue Paper Toad who's super fast. Walk near the water to find a fence made of Paper Toads. Talk to them and explain the speedy Paper Toad to get the Dash Socks. To use them, start moving and press and hold (X) to jump. Release (X) when you land to begin dashing. Run through the flowers for coins. To slide to catch someone, dash, then press (A), (B), or (Y) when the exclamation point appears. You'll use it to get the other two Paper Toads, and the speedy blue Paper Toad. Lakitu appears, saying he took the Paper Toads to Peach's Castle.

Head as far east as you can go. You can get the first strike on enemies by dashing. When you reach where you first met Paper Mario, someone has a delivery for the bros. It's a Toad with an item and letter. A Paper Toad wants to thank the bros for saving his friends. The item is something the bros can use in battle. The more Paper Toads the bros save, the more battle items the Paper Toads will make. Someone says they have orders to hunt down and destroy the bros. It's a small army of Goombas. In battle, Paper Mario has the Trio Attack command now. This allows Paper Mario to use Trio Attacks, which also consume BP.  The item is a giant cardboard hammer all three bros swing at enemies to turn them into paper. The first one is Trio Racquet, where the bros play racquet ball, using enemies as targets. All three bros must be able to move to use a Trio Attack.

While you're in the area, dash to the orange spring platform to be launched across the water. Go east and you'll find that parts of the environment are made of paper. Paper Mario says this is what his world looks like. Luigi doesn't think that they came from the book, pointing to some cardboard with Bowser's face on it. Dash into the spring to launch through the cardboard. Go east and a Toad says they need the bros' help. Bowser is invading Peach's Castle. Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later... Of course, there are two of them.

Meanwhile, in Peach's Castle, Peach hopes the bros are all right. Paper Peach thinks they should have run into Paper Mario at this point. Bowser laughs. Peach guesses it's that point in the story. Paper Bowser flies in on his clown copter. He wants both princesses, but how he's going to transport Peach is anyone's guess. Bowser flies in on his clown copter. The Toads panic, as per protocol and run off. Bowser asks Paper Bowser if he's trying to steal his thunder. They're still not getting along all that well. In the background, there are suddenly two paper princesses. One asks Mario to save her. Paper Bowser notes she sounds different. Bowser says it's kidnapping time. They both say nothing gets in the way of that and breath fire on the paper princesses. They chase the princesses into the throne room. The Bowsers surround them. The princesses try to leave the throne room, but Peach trips and falls. She calls for Mario

Starlow says they should return to the castle immediately. She thinks there may be time but Bowser disagrees. Both of them have their respective princess in their respective clown copter. Bowser introduces Paper Bowser to them. They found common ground in taking Mario down. They also found teaming up make kidnapping the princesses easier. They then squabble about kidnapping technique. Paper Bowser says their headed for his castle and that the bros will try to follow them, as per usual. Bowser gives them something to keep them busy.

It's Petey Piranha. He can pick up a bro and chomp on them, keeping them from battle for a while. Trio Attacks work on bosses. He'll jump to unleash a shockwave on the bros. Time your jumps to dodge. The Fire Flower attack does critical damage, so use it often. After a few attacks, Petey Piranha will get mad and chase the bros. Paper Mario will turn into an airplane. Move the airplane over the bro being attacked and have them jump to hold on. Hold the button until they land on the ground. Press (Y) as Paper Mario lands on Petey Piranha. If one of his attempts to grab a bro fails, he'll fall backwards. He'll take more damage this way.

Once defeated, a ? Card appears. A Toad can't believe one was found here. They can be used with Amiibo to create character cards. If you don't have Amiibo, you can sell the cards.

Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam -- Part 1: Slippery Toads

Now that the Paper Toads in the castle have been found, it's time to go outside and try to find more of them. After you exit the throne room, go to the room to the west. A Toad yells for someone to stop. It's Nabbit. He runs off, dropping a few items on the way. The Toads say he stole a bunch of Bros. Attacks. Without them, they predict doom. Luigi says they'll take the two that were left behind. They are 3D Red Shell and Fire Flower. The Toads ask the bros to get the Bros. Attacks back from Nabbit. The blocks in the room contain coins. The back door leads to the workshop where the Paper Toads are resting. Check out the door and you'll hear them say if there were more of them, they could build something.

Back in the lobby, there's a Toad carrying a sack. He's got a Mushroom delivery route, but he's short one regular Mushroom. Mario offers one up. In return, he gives the bros a 1-up Mushroom. East of the lobby are some shops. The gear's not that great at this point. Towards the southern part of the lobby is Toadette with a Mario doll. She tosses it up in the air. She says it's very versatile. She says she'll make a life-size papercraft doll for the bros later. Someone tells the bros to wait. Some Paper Toads appear and give the bros the Copy Block. They made it out of the stuff in the workshop. They'll going to make more things while the bros go on their adventure. Toadette decides to help them out. One of the Toads by the exit says the arrow will guide the bros if they don't know where to go next.

Outside, cross the moat and you'll see a Lakitu and a rainbow-colored block that restores all HP and BP. The Lakitu was charged by the princess to take notes on the bros, look out for them, and offer assistance. He also reminds the bros to save often. Exit to the east to Sunbeam Plains. Someone notices Mario. Two Paper Goombas appear and notice Mario looks different. Mario, Luigi, and Starlow take an interest in the Paper Goomba and end up crumpling him. He restores himself, but still has a large crease. They're ready to battle.

It's time for the first battle and the battle music is a remix of that from Superstar Saga. Starlow directs the bros' attention to the Battle Guide. These Paper Goombas are level 2. If you execute an attack properly, you may crumple paper enemies. The battle should be pretty simple. Once the battle is over, the Paper Goombas threaten to come back with reinforcements. Starlow reminds them that if Bowser and Paper Bowser team up, things won't be so easy.

Meanwhile, in Bowser's Castle, a magikoopa tells Bowser the plan is going along. Bowser wants things done faster. He wants to get rid of Mario, so he has his minions hunt them down. The magikoopa would like it if Bowser used some manners. A voice behind the magikoopa asks where he is. The magikoopa thinks Bowser has taken up ventriloquism. He looks behind him and sees Paper Bowser. Paper Bowser walks up to Bowser and they both ask who the other is. Bowser wants Paper Bowser out, calling him a flimsy knockoff. Paper Bowser calls Bowser the knockoff. Bowser threatens physical violence, instead of using his flame breath, which would likely be more effective. They get in each other's faces and start fighting. A Goomba appears and they stop fighting, but Paper Bowser is crumpled. He apologizes for interrupting and they get back to fighting. The Goomba explains that Paper Toads and paper minions are raining all over the Mushroom Kingdom. The magikoopa says he's heard of a book that contains a parallel world. He thought it was merely a legend, but now knows it's real. A familiar voice calls someone a copycat. Bowser Jr. has met his paper counterpart. Bowser Jr. checks him out, saying it's like looking in a funhouse mirror. He says it's been boring lately. Paper Bowser Jr. introduces himself and Bowser Jr. wants to get the party started. The whole situation is making the magikoopa's head hurt. Bowser uses his fire breath and the fighting continues. The magikoopa calls for help and gets dragged into the fight.

Back outside, Starlow's getting a shivery feeling. She suggests they rescue the Paper Toads. On the nearby ledge is a tri-colored block. It has only coins this time. The path to the north is blocked by a gate. Hit the red and green blocks to the right on the hill to make it drop. There's an island to the southeast, but no way to reach it and a spring platform nearby is out of commission. Go north and you'll find more Goombas, who say this Mario looks like the real one. Sounds like Paper Mario may be nearby. The other Goomba called the flatter Mario real, even though it's weird he floated down from the sky. Either way, it's battle time! Starlow mentions a little circle may appear around the bros' feet when enemies attack. If the circles are dashes, either bro could be attacked. You can turn the Assist feature on and off to let you know which bro will be attacked. These Goombas are level 2. An Expert Challenge appears. This one is "Just Getting Started". The points you get from clearing challenges can be exchanged for gear in the gear shop. Battle all the enemies and the bros should level up. It looks like you must gain five levels to rank up. This time around, you can't select a stat to give bonus points to. Go north.

To the left is a Paper Toad, who says his friends were abducted by weird-looking versions of Bowser's minions. His surroundings are more vivid than normal, so he thinks he's dreaming. Starlow greets him and he freaks out, then runs away incredibly quickly. Starlow suggests they catch him. He runs off when they approach and they lose sight of him. They decide to move forward and they may find him again. Go up the hills and you'll find the east exit. There's a purple block that challenges the bros to volley the block back and forth for coins. There's a heal block near the exit. Go east.

A green Paper Toad asks if anyone can hear him. Starlow wants to talk to him, but he's freaked out by a Goomba. He slips through a narrow gap in some rocks and runs off. The Goomba gives up, Luigi tries to squeeze through, but gets stuck. Exit to the east and you'll find numerous Paper Goombas, including the one the bros creased earlier. It took him a while to iron out the creases in his face. He and his friends activate Super Goomba Super Wheel. One notices they said "super" twice. The battle starts and they form a wheel. They chase the bros. Press (A) and (B) repeatedly to run out of the way. They escape, but the wheel comes back and runs them over, defeated them. The Paper Goombas bet the bros didn't think they could do something that cool. Starlow tells them to get back up. The Paper Goombas says their weakest teammate is a million times stronger than the bros. They think they should report back to Paper Bowser. As they're about to leave, Paper Mario floats in and grabs them. They can't see where they're going, so they run around to shake him off. Starlow freaks out. The Paper Goombas threaten to flatten Paper Mario flatter than he already is. They try to stomp him, but he punches them away. They're surprised it's actually Paper Mario. They prepare the ultra special stomper-roller thingy, muttering under their breath that they should have agreed upon a name ahead of time. They form the wheel again and target Paper Mario. Starlow halts the attack and explains that the bros need his help. Paper Mario demonstrates that by holding (Y), he can jump very high. Use it to dodge or counter the wheel. Starlow hands over the Copy Block. Hit the block with (Y) to make multiple copies of him, six to be exact. The Paper Goombas are upset because stacking was their idea. Paper Mario can make copies anytime he pleases, but it will cost a turn. On the bright side, the copies will take damage for Paper Mario, but aren't as strong as him. If he takes damage, he'll lose at least one copy. Not sure how Starlow knew all this, but it sounds like an awesome ability. When Paper Mario uses a Jump attack, each copy will do an attack, so press (Y) for each one. When using the hammer, all copies must have their hammer raised high for an Excellent attack.

After the battle ends, the Paper Goomba says it's just his luck that there are two Marios. They haven't seen the last of him, however. He runs off and Luigi gives Paper Mario a hug that crumples him a little. He flattens himself out and looks at Luigi, but Starlow corrects him. This is not Paper Luigi, who still hasn't made an appearance. Starlow draws Paper Mario's attention to Mario and they copy each other's moves. Starlow thinks to call him Paper Mario. She explains that there are two Bowsers in this world. Paper Mario agrees to help in his silent way. The team is now a trio. Paper Mario jumps with (Y). Now that he's joined the team, we can track down that Paper Toad that slipped between the rocks.

Super Paper Mario -- Chapter 7-3: The Forbidden Apple

Our heroes had found their way out of the dark and confusion of The Underwhere. Mario and friends now saw the sun shining brightly against a beautiful blue sky. This was the sky paradise Grambi called home, a place of joy called The Overthere. Somewhere above the never-ending layers of clouds waited Grambi himself. Mario and his friends began to make their way up that fluffy road to above...

The heroes have reached the bottom of the Overthere Stair. Luvbi is happy to see blue skies again, even though The Void is here, too. She says they have to keep climbing to reach The Overthere. Tippi says they haven't found Peach yet. Luvbi asks if Peach is Mario's lady friend. Peach isn't his girlfriend, so Luvbi thinks it's a one-sided crush. She goes on ahead, saying if the heroes climb too slowly, the sun will set.

On some of the larger clouds, you'll find numbers of the steps, so I'll be referring to them. Each set of 10 steps forms a stair. At the top is a door leading to the next stair. You'll find Parabuzzies here. In the item blocks, you'll find a Super Shroom. Take the yellow platform up and you'll encounter an Ice Cherbil. If you find that you're stuck trying to go up, flip to check your surroundings, Super Jump, or look for a yellow platform. Flip and you'll find some flip blocks. On stair 15, you'll find a large Jump-Over Cloud. They're very bouncy, so treat them like springs. They'll launch you up several steps. On Stair 17, you'll find a Slow Flower in an item block. On Stair 19 is another Jump-Over Cloud. On Stair 20 is the door to Stair 2.

On Stair 21, hit the item blocks for a fast flower and some Zombie Shrooms so you can rack up points and coins quickly. Go up a few clouds to reach a Save Block. There's a Jump-Over Cloud on Stair 23 and 24, which is a little below Stair 23. Flip to find coins on Stair 24. On Stair 25 are a couple of Rawbuses and a chest with a Rawbus card. On Stair 28, you'll find Ruff Puffs, who'll shoot a ball of electricity at you.

There's a Jump-Over Cloud on Stair 31. On Stair 33 is a door which leads to a tree bearing Blue Apples. They'll heal 5 HP. Use Thudley to knock them from the tree. You'll find a chest with a Ruff Puff card on Stair 34. On the left side, on Stair 37, flip to find some item blocks that allow you to cross to the right side.

On the right side, near Stairs 41 and 42, you'll find some blocks. There are flipping Spinies here, thrown by flipping Lakitus. You'll find a Jump-Over Cloud between Stairs 44 and 45. On 46, you'll find a door leading to Red Apples and a Happy Flower. Be sure to hold onto at least one Red Apple. Drop down to 43 to find a door and a Save Block. The door leads to a tree, with Peach sleeping underneath it. The bros and Bowser try to wake her up, to no avail. Tippi mentions that Peach can really sleep. Luvbi flies in and notices that Peach ate the golden fruit. There are many magical trees in The Overthere, whose fruits have many effects. The Golden Apple makes people so satisfied that they'll sleep for 100 years. Bowser's not that patient. Luvbi mentions a tree that grows taboo fruit that would wake anyone. She then starts pouting that everyone holds Peach in such high regard, so she decides not to help, but go sulk instead. At this point, you can leave, or try giving Peach some apples that you've collected. The Red Apple will make her grow much taller, wake up, freak out, then return to normal size and fall back asleep. The Blue Apple will make her shrink, then return to normal size without waking her up.

Return to the Overthere Stair. Go onto the left side and take two yellow platforms up (they'll move right next to each other). You'll find a chest with a Shroom Shake. On Stair 48, you'll find a Jump-Over Cloud. To the left, you'll find a sign. Flip in front of it to find a door leading to the tree with Yellow Apples. If given to Peach, she'll wake up, grow a mustache, freak out, ask for some lip wax, then fall asleep. The mustache will disappear.

On Stair 51, go through the door on the left and flip to find the tree with Pink Apples. They will make Peach turn into a Peachy Peach, then return to normal. On Stair 52 is a coin block cleverly disguised as a brick block and a Mushroom in an item block. Take the yellow platform up to Stair 53 and flip to find a door leading to the tree of Black Apples. Give it to Peach and she wakes up, calling it gross. She asks what they gave her to eat. Luigi is happy that it worked. Peach is excited that Luigi is safe. Bowser says her concerned husband is here. Peach ignores that and asks where they are, as she can't remember. Tippi explains that Dimentio's attack sent her to The Overthere. Luvbi asks if she's awake. Luvbi says she's taking these travelers to the Overthere. Peach is pleased to make Luvbi's acquaintance, but Luvbi isn't so pleased, telling the princess of silly peaches to not dawdle. Luvbi leaves to climb ahead. Peach wonders if she said something rude. Tippi says not to worry about it. Peach apologizes for causing the other heroes trouble, but she's happy to see them. Now that Peach has rejoined the party, platforming will be easier.

Back on Stair 52 is a door. Go through it and bars appear on the door. Skellobits are in the area. They're creatures from The Underwhere who carry spears. Defeat them all to go back through the door. On Stair 53 is a Jump-Over Cloud. On Stair 54, climb up the blocks, then float to the other side. On Stair 55, you'll find one of many Jump-Over Clouds in the area that lead to Stair 6.

On Stair 61, you'll find a Flip Cursya, which will flip the directions on the D-Pad. Leave it alone or use Piccolo to remove the curse. To the left, a yellow platform will appear between two brick blocks. Transfer to another yellow platform and you'll see arches in the sky. Stand on them and flip for item blocks. On Stair 62 is a brick block that's actually a coin block. On Stair 63 is a Jump-Over Cloud. There are coins on Stair 65 and a Slow Cursya on Stair 68. The chest near it has a Long-Last Shake. Take the yellow platform to a series of narrow pillars. Use Peach to cross them. There's chest with a Thunder Rage on Stair 69.

On Stair 71, flip near the item blocks to find more item blocks. One has a Super Shroom. There's also a Jump-Over Cloud. There's another on Stair 72. Near Stair 73 are some pillars. Near Stair 74 is a yellow platform that leads to a chest with a Life Shroom. Go up and you'll find a pavilion and a cloud. The switch next to him makes a pipe appear. Talk to the cloud and you'll find his name is Cyrrus. He wants to be a big cloud. He heard about a guy getting bigger by eating a mushroom and wants to eat something that will make him bigger, as well. You can feed him any of the apples you have and they'll do the same things as they did to Peach. The pipe nearby will take you back to Stair 43 so you can get a Red Apple, which he needs. He grows and calls himself Super Cyrrus. He's super bouncy, to the point that he launches the heroes of the planet. They come back down and land on Stair 80. Flip under the roof of the pavilion to find some coins. Super Jump onto the pavilion to reach a chest with a gold bar. Go through the door and you'll find a sign that says, "Here Endeth Overthere Stair. The Overthere is Over There". Float across the gap to the star.

Super Paper Mario -- Chapter 3-3: Up, Up, and a Tree

Somehow, the heroes had beached the Big Blooper and crossed the Tile Pool. But before they could dry, they saw the imposing silhouette of Fort Francis. "It sure is getting dark," Peach said in a quiet voice. But when they looked up, they realized they were in the shadow of a huge tree. Mario, knowing in his gut this must be the way, set out toward the great tree...

To the right of the base of the Dotwood Tree, is a stump with a tiny door. The Dotwood Tree is a tall, vertical, platforming area, so Peach is an excellent choice. You will have to switch to Mario on occasion. Take the platforms up. On the right is an item block with a Slow Flower. You'll find green Poison Cherbils. The poison will make your HP drop for a while or until you use a healing item that curse poison (most healing items do). There are square, blocky enemies called Tileoid Gs and Tileoid Bs. They crawl all over surfaces, including platforms and walls. Higher up is an item block with a Fast Flower. Go left and flip to find some flip blocks to reach the platform above you. There's a Paratroopa flying up and down. Past it is a post to pound with Thudley. This makes a yellow platform appear. On the right is an item block with a Mushroom. Climb higher to reach a yellow pipe. It leads to a room with many coins. Flip to find more. Return to the tree and climb to the top. There's a door at the top encased in bark. Use Bowser's fire breath to burn the bark away to access the door.

The door leads to the inside of the tree. Take the first pipe you see up to a Save Block and a blue switch. Hit it and it turns pink. Now pink platforms will appear throughout the tree. You'll have to keep hitting the switches that change blue to pink to make platforms appear so you can progress. Go back through the pipe. The pink platform allows you to climb higher and reach a pink switch. Hit it to make it turn blue and make blue platforms appear. You'll find many Crayzee Dayzees in the tree. They'll sing a song. If the musical note hits you, you'll fall asleep and have to shake the Wiimote to wake up. Block the musical note with Peach's umbrella. The blue platforms allow you to reach some yellow platforms on paths. The one on the square path lets you reach a post you can pound with Thudley. This makes a ladder appear so you can get back here easily. Hit the switch to make pink platforms appear and take the yellow pipe up. You'll find some blocks on the right wall. Flip to find a pipe behind them. There are spikes that appear from the floor. Use Slim to get past them to hit a switch to make blue platforms appear. Return to the tree's interior and climb higher.

On the left side is a switch guarded by spikes. Drop Boomer near the pit to activate the switch. A pink platform will let you climb higher. Before you do, drop Boomer near the switch again, then go up the pink platform. Let Boomer detonate on his own so you can get to solid ground before he makes the blue platform appear. There's a pipe near the yellow platform on a square path. There are two Chomps here. Either use Boomer or Thudley to defeat them and a chest will appear with a Peach (2) card. Return to the tree's interior, then go up and left. You'll find a pipe. Go through the pipe and get Slim out. Step on the yellow platform and flip sideways to pass the spikes. Bring out Boomer and drop down on the left side. Place Boomer near the switch, then get out of the pit before he detonates. Ride the yellow platform back to the pipe, once again flipped sideways. Use the pink platform to climb higher. When you've climbed as far as you can, flip so you can reach the next level. Use Thudley to hit the item block on the ground for a Mushroom. Hit the switch to make a door appear on the same level as the Save Block. Drop down to the first pipe you could go through, which takes you to the Save Block and the door.

Go through the door and someone says the heroes don't wear tardiness well. It's Dimentio, recognizing Mario by the festival of hair that dances on his lip and Bowser by the flailing nubbins he calls arms. He says Peach's beauty is as refreshing as a slap to the face on a crisp winter day. He introduces himself as a humble servant of Count Bleck's and is enchanted to meet his hapless victims. He has a special treat prepared for the heroes: some magic that takes them to Dimension D. Dimension D is a dimension he created where his attacks are 256 times more potent, so he could obliterate them by raising his eyebrow. He says that now they must duel like two gleaming banjos on a moonlit stoop.

In battle, Dimentio asks if they can pierce his illusion. He'll make a copy of himself and shoot magic at the heroes. Peach is a good choice as she can guard with her umbrella. You'll just pass through the fake one, making the real one easier to identify. After he takes some damage, he'll start creating boxes all over the room. Once they start appearing, keep moving, or you'll be trapped. Once he stops forming boxes or has you trapped, he'll unleash fire in all of the boxes. Once defeated, he says their attacks were like miniature jackhammers wielded by tiny, angry road workers. He wonders how it was possible for them to defeat him in his own dimension, where his power has increased. The heroes suggest it was because they were also in the dimension, their power increased equally. Dimentio laughs slowly and gets up, saying it all played out exactly as planned. He asks if they were amused, as that battle was merely an hors d'oeuvre and the next time they meet will be a deadly eight-course meal. He returns them to the Dotwood Tree and leaves. Peach says he seems familiar. Away from the tree, Dimentio asks, "A little more, perhaps?" He says the heroes are strong, but they must be stronger yet to defeat Count Bleck, and he must be sure they can face him when the time comes. He leaves.

This is the top part of the tree. There are a few Lakitu here, throwing down Spinies to make life difficult. Defeat the Lakitu and the Spinies will soon no longer be an issue, as they'll just eventually walk off the tree. Near the top on the left side is a coin block. At the top, you'll see the wind. Some of the wind is red. Stand on it and it will take you to the right. Hold still and do not flip until you reach a pipe. Jump off their or you'll fall and have to find another red wind. Go through the pipe and flip to find coins on the other side of it. On the right side is the star.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door -- Pit of 100 Trials

Before I met Professor Frankly at the Thousand-Year Door, I decided to complete an extra challenge: the Pit of 100 Trials. It's a series of battles numbering just under 90, but there are 100 floors to go through. Each time is a little different. The first 40 or 50 floors seem like a warm-up: the enemies are ones you've faced before and you'll only get 1 Star Point from the battle. Don't bother equipping the First Strike badge, as it doesn't work here. If things are looking bleak, leave the pit and regroup. Save your game, so you can keep the experience and badges that you can get ever 10 floors (except floor 100) and from some of the enemies. You'll also want to bring a good stash of items, such as Maple Supers and Thunder Rages, but keep some space in your inventory to steal items from enemies and get some from the audience. Every 10 floors, you'll find a large chest with a badge. You may also find a salesman here. His list of items will never change, and you can buy as many items as you can afford/ carry. The farther you go into the dungeon, the more expensive the items get, to the point they border on usurious.

At the start of my successful run, my stats were as follows: Level 24, 35 HP (with badges), 30 FP (with badges), 51 BP. I had the following badges equipped: Multibounce, Power Bounce, Fire Drive,  HP Plus x2, FP Plus, Power Plus,  Damage Dodge, Close Call, Pretty Lucky (stolen from an enemy), Lucky Start, Happy Heart, Happy Flower, Pity Flower, Spike Shield, Zap Tap, and Power Plus P. I also had 3 Power Punches in my inventory.

Here are some strategies and tips: Get the First Strike as much as possible. Use as few items, FP, and Star Power as possible in the early battles. If you need to heal early on in the pit, use Star Power, such as Sweet Treat and Sweet Feast, as Star Power is easy to recover. Later on, you'll have to manage all of these very well to survive. There are also Punies on the floors called Movers. Pay them some coins and they can move you either 2 or 5 floors below, or to the exit. Use them wisely, but check the floor you're on first so you don't skip chests on the floors that are multiples of 10. Bring some Life Shrooms and keep your partners healed, so they won't use them up. Equip the Lucky Badges and the Zap Tap badge when you get them. The Zap Tap badge prevents enemies like Swoopers, Fuzzies, and Bandits from stealing stuff and leaching HP or FP. When you level up, you should increase your BP to accommodate your new badges. Refresh Merlee's spell to help you out.

I will list the battles I experienced so you can get an idea of what kind of enemies to expect. Your battles may differ.

They can also hold onto a Sky Blue Spiny egg, making them like a spiky enemy until they throw the egg or they are hit. Sky Blue Spinies have 6 HP, 6 attack, and 4 defense. They can roll up into a ball to become impervious to damage and store energy. Both Dark Lakitu and Sky Blue Spinies can charge their attacks.
62. Dry Bones, with 8 HP, 5 attack, and 2 defense. They can throw multiple bones and rise again if their HP drops to zero, unless they are defeated with fire or explosions. 2 Frost Piranhas with 10 HP and 5 attack. They have freeze breath, but are weak to fire.

91. 5 Elite Wizzerds, with 12 HP, 8 attack, and 5 defense. I leveled up and increased BP.
92. 4 Poison Puffs, with 15 HP and 8 attack. They have a poison gas attack they have to charge up, but don't hit them directly while they're charging.
93. 2 Bob-ulks, with 10 HP, 4 attack, and 2 defense
94. Elite Wizzerd, Swampire, with 20 HP and 6 attack. They drain HP. 2 Amazy Dayzees, with 20 HP, 20 attack, and 1 defense. They will run away at any time, but will give lots of Star Points if defeated. Bobbery's Bob-ombast and Supernova work well. I got 100 SP from this fight and leveled up, then increased BP. You want to see many Amazy Dayzees, as the many Star Points will make you level up and fully heal you.
95. 5 Elite Wizzerds
96. 2 Poison Puffs, Swampire, Amazy Dayzee for 62 Star Points. I leveled up and increased BP.
97. 3 Bob-ulks
98. Elite Wizzerd, Swampire, and 2 Amazy Dayzees for 100 Star Points again. I increased BP when I leveled up. I also ranked up to Superstar Rank, and got a bigger stage for the next battle.
99. 5 Elite Wizzerds. After the battle, heal and adjust your badges. I added Lucky Day, FP Plus, another Damage Dodge, Defend Plus, and Close Call P. You'll need to do this on floor 99.

100. Mario drops down into a large cavern. A dragon howls and the battle starts. This is Bonetail, the oldest brother of Hooktail, so old, it's just bones. It has 200 HP, 8 attack, and 2 defense. It can bite and stomp and its breaths cause a variety of effects, such as freezing, confusion, sleep, shrinking, and poison. It can reanimate. Because it has so much health, I saved the Power Punches for this battle. You may be able to do Supernova early on in the battle, but after a while, you'll be refilling your meter to use Sweet Feast. When Bonetail gets to around 100 HP, it will start healing 20 HP at a time. Mario should do most of the attacking, out in front. Equip as many Lucky badges as you can to increase the chances that Mario dodges the attack. Mario's ally should heal and use items. A good choice is an Ultra Rank Flurrie. Use Lip Lock to attack Bonetail and heal herself. Keep Mario and his ally healed, and with a decent amount of FP. Also try to have some Life Shrooms available at this stage in the dungeon. This is one of the hardest fights, so it may take a few tries. I defeated Bonetail on my second try. You'll get one Star Point at the end of the battle (two if Merlee's spell doubles it). Bonetail wails and flips over, like its sister. It spits up a large chest with the Return Postage badge. This badge inflicts half the damage dealt to the attacker if it attacks directly. The pipe will take you to the entrance to the pit. Congratulations on making it. Heal and save.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door -- Chapter 3: Of Glitz and Glory -- Part 1

The blimp drops Mario off on the floating arena of Glitzville. On the left is a public phone where Mario can talk to various people he's met on his journey. On the right is a large, blue switch. Spin jump on it to make some stairs appear to the roof of the nearby building. This building is the juice shop. On top is a chest with the Power Plus P badge. Near the Glitz Pit is a family of rich Bob-ombs. They have some interesting things to say. Also near the Glitz Pit is a Shine Sprite you can't reach yet. On the side of the juice bar is an Inn Coupon. Inside the juice bar is a Toad with a pink-spotted cap and a single tuft of hair showing.

Go inside the Glitz Pit. The Toads on the left are looking for the former champion, Prince Mush. Ms. Mowz is here and surprised to see Mario. Go through the double doors to enter the arena's seating area. On stage is the champion, Rawk Hawk, about to battle a challenger. He defeats his opponent with a one-hit knock out. He wants a challenge and will take on anyone. He shows off his champion's belt, which has a Crystal Star on it. Mario's partner asks how Mario plans to get his hands on the Crystal Star. The only way to do it is to battle to the top. Talk to the guy in the suit at one of the doors and tell him you want to become a fighter. He'll tell you to talk to the promoter, Mr. Grubba. He'll let you past the door. There are a couple of Save Blocks in the hallway. Mr. Grubba's office is to the right of the locked door.

Go inside Mr. Grubba's office and he'll call you rude for barging in. Mario tells him he's an athlete that wants to fight and he changes his tone. He finds Mario to be a little skinny. He asks Mario if he wants to live the glamorous life of a champ. Mr. Grubba says that he fought his way to fame and riches, which are dynamite. He's set for life and opened the arena to help others make dreams come true.

He gives Mario the tour, showing him the champ's room and the major league locker rooms, which are not as nice, but decent. Mario has to fight his way to the top. Sign the contract and Mario's officially on the roster. Mr. Grubba gives Mario the new name of the Great Gonzales. He calls Jolene into his office. She looks somewhat familiar. Jolene takes Mario to the minor league locker room, which is falling apart. If Mario wants out of here, he'll have to fight his way to the top. He can reserve matches using the terminal on the wall, which looks like a Game Boy Advance. Mr. Grubba will choose your opponents and the conditions of the battle, which must be met in order for your rank to go up. The conditions change for each battle, and if you reset the game, the conditions will be different. They include things such as not using special moves, using at least one special move, appealing to the crowd a certain number of times, not having Mario attack, letting the opponent hit you a certain number of times, not using FP, or beating enemies in a certain number of turns. I'll post examples of what happened to me. Beat a higher-ranking opponent to move your rank up. If you lose to a lower-ranking opponent, your rank will fall. If you fail to complete the condition of the battle, you'll next battle a lower-ranking opponent. When you reach rank 11, you have a chance at the major leagues. After a battle, sleep in the bed to restore HP and FP. Only the champ's bed restores Star Power.

1. The first fight is against the Goomba Bros. My condition was to appeal at least once. You'll have to battle five Goombas. Power Shell works well if you can use it. Once you win, Jolene will give you money for winning. In this case, it's 3 coins. Mario is now rank 19.
2. Next up are the KP Koopas. My condition was to defeat them in under 5 turns. There are two Koopas and one Paratroopa. They all have 4 HP, 2 attack power, and 1 defense power. You'll get 4 coins and your rank will go up to 18.
3. The Pokey Triplets are next. My condition was to not use items. You'll get 4 coins and become rank 17.
4. The Dead Bones are your next opponents. They are a bunch of Dull Bones. My condition was to not switch partners. You'll get 5 coins and become rank 16.
5. Spike Storm is next. They are a Lakitu and a couple of Spinies, but the Lakitu can throw more onto the field. The Lakitu has 5 HP and 2 attack power. It throws Spiny eggs. Don't stomp it when it's holding a Spiny egg. The Spinies have 3 HP, 3 attack, and 3 defense. You can't hurt them when they're rolled up. Flip them over to reduce their defense to zero. My condition was to not use FP. You'll get 5 coins and become rank 15.

After that fight, King K of the KP Koopas says that the hot dog stand is selling hot dogs made with eggs from a southern island. It may help win fights. You can do whatever you want between matches, so leave, save, and go outside. The egg is hopping around in front of the hot dog stand. The owner wants help catching it. It eventually hops up on top of the stand and falls asleep. Go on top of the juice shop and spring to the airplane panel. Fly to the egg to catch it. It seems to want Mario's help. Help it and the owner will let it go, saying people probably don't want to eat something that's been jumping around. It'll follow Mario around.

Go back inside and wander around the back hallways. Talk to Bandy Andy, the Bandit. He's been doing research on the Seven Wonders of the Glitz Pit. As him about them and he'll tell you. There's a sealed wall in the minor league locker rooms, which may contain the remains of fallen athletes. In one of the bathrooms is a man-eating toilet. There's a room where there's a second floor, but no stairs. Some people hear groaning in the room. In the champ's room, if you stand still, you'll hear voices from nowhere. When no one's in the ring, strange lights can be seen under the doors, which are locked. Sometimes, fighters disappear for no reason, never to return. He thinks Prince Mush was lost this way. Mr. Grubba is well toned, despite being past 60 and Jolene suddenly vanishes at times. Start reserving matches. The egg will remain in the locker room.

6. The Hand-It-Overs are next. They are Bandits and Big Bandits. Bandits have 5HP and 2 attack, while Big Bandits have 8 HP and 3 attack. They can bump into you and steal coins, but Big Bandits can steal items. My condition was to not use items. You win the fight if they flee. You'll get 6 coins and rise to rank 14.

After the battle, King K mentions a lovely lady at the juice shop. Talk to her and she'll say she longs for the return of Prince Mush. Check behind the bar for a Star Piece.

7. The Mind Bogglers are next, a Pale Piranha, a Pider, and a Dark Puff. My condition was to appeal at least once. You'll get 6 coins and rise to rank 13.

After the battle, King K says he's going to retire after his next battle, as his future isn't looking so good. He says not to forget him.

8. The Punk Rocks are next. They are Hyper Bald Clefts, with 3 HP, 2 attack, and 2 defense. They can charge up so their attack is 8. Use items, but not fire. My condition was to not use special moves. You'll get 7 coins for winning and rise to rank 12.
9. The Bob-omb Squad is up, with four Bob-ombs. They have 4 HP, 2 attack, and 1 defense. They get mad if they're damaged and will have a harsh attack waiting for you on their next turn or on your next attempt at contact. Hit them from a distance or with a shell. You'll get 7 coins and rise to rank 11.

After the battle, a new contender enters the minor-league locker room. His name is Sir Swoop, a Swooper. Jolene gives him the spiel and he signs up for his first match. Apparently his condition is to do a triple flip and meow.

10. Now that Mario is rank 11, he gets to challenge an opponent for a chance at the major leagues. His opponents are the Armored Harriers, a couple of Iron Clefts. Mr. Grubba makes up a bunch of insults to rile up the Armored Harriers. They have 6 HP, 4 attack, and their defense is unknown. No attack works on them because their defense is impenentrable. Their spikes are made of iron, making them very powerful. My condition was to not jump, not that it would ever be an issue. To win, you must hit one into the other, something you can't do now. Run away at any point to forfeit. You'll still get a coin for the battle, but you're stuck in the minor leagues, for now.

Paper Mario: Chapter 6 -- Dark Days in Flower Fields -- Part 2

Mario has obtained a Magical Bean, as well as Fertile Soil and some Miracle Water to help it grow. It still needs sunlight. Heal if you need to and go northwest of Wise Wisterwood and you'll see many thorns ahead. Nearby is a blue plant blowing bubbles. It's called the Bubble Plant. Give it a Bubble Berry and it will blow a large bubble. Jump into the bubble and it will take you across the pit of thorns. On the other side of pit are more Spinies. Sometimes, you'll find a Green Magikoopa. They have 11 HP and 3 attack power. They can increase the defense of their allies and run away. Go up the stairs, and walk through the log (it opens up) to reach a Star Piece. Go through a different log and go west.

There are more Lakitu and Spinies here. Go up the stairs and have Bombette break the rock at the top. Drop down where the rock was to reach the Mega Smash badge. Go west and the music changes. There's a tall tower in the area. Walk around on the ground and you'll find a doorway. Go inside and use Bombette to blow up the rock. This will make part of the tower lower so you can reach a doorway higher in the tower. Go up the stairs to the top of the tower. The sun is at the top. It says it was the sun. The clouds in the sky prevent it from climbing into the sky. It says it's failing as a sun with all the plants and flowers suffering. It tells Mario that the Puff Puff Machine is likely to the east, as that is where the clouds seem to be coming from. It then tells Mario to just go home and give up.

Go back east and a voice says to stop. It's a Lakitu wearing sunglasses. He says his name is Lakilester, then changes it to Michael, then Spike. He has no personal problem with Mario, but has orders from Huff N. Puff to deliver a beat down. He then wonders to himself if he sounded cool. It's time to battle. He appears under the name of "Spike?". He has 50 HP and 4 attack power. He throws Spiny Eggs like other Lakitu. Bow's Fan Smack and Power Bounce work well. Defeat him and you'll get 12 SP. At the end of the battle, even his cloud is frowning. He gives up, saying Mario is tough as nails. He then tells Mario to do his worst, whatever he does to those he defeats, be it a Fire Flower in the eye or a POW Block.

Someone else says to wait. It's another Lakitu, one with a ponytail. Her name is Lakilulu. She asks for mercy on Lakilester. He says she's embarrassing him, but this makes him like her even more. He then says to forget he said that. He lost a challenge and he and Mario must settle it. Lakilulu asks Mario to forgive him. Forgive him and he says he joined Huff N. Puff to be part of something big. Unfortunately, all he's been doing is picking pointless fights. He asks Mario what he's fighting for. He decides to join Mario. Lakilulu wants to go with him, but he wants her to stay. He's going to return to her after he becomes a man. She agrees to wait, but tells them not to make her worry. He joins the party, revealing that his name is really Lakilester. His starting attacks are Spiny Flip and Spiny Surge. He can also carry Mario over spikes and lava.

Return to Wise Wisterwood, then go northeast. There's a platform puzzle here. There are colorful platforms over thorns. If you ground pound the platform, all of the platforms of the same color will move in the direction that the arrows on them indicate. There are three green platforms, two red ones, and two purple ones. Keep Lakilester out, as you'll need him to carry you over the thorns as you manipulate the platforms. The way to solve the puzzle is to pound the platforms in the following order: right green, left purple, left red, left green, right green, then right purple. This will take you to the ledge on the other side of the pit of thorns. You may find a Yellow Magikoopa battling alongside other enemies. According to Goombario's Tattle, yellow's the new black. They have 11 HP and 3 attack. They can electrify allies, so do not attack them directly. They can also run away. They give 2 SP. Use the spring under the back ledge to reach a Super Block. I upgraded Lakilester.

Go east and you'll find a few logs over the thorns. You can use them or Lakilester to cross the thorns. You'll find a letter in the flowers here addressed to Minh T. I delivered the letter when I returned to Toad Town to heal. She'll give you a Star Piece. Go east of here and you'll here some mechanical sounds. To the right are some Lakitu and a Yellow Magikoopa, and the Puff Puff Machine. Hit it on both sides with the hammer and it will start falling apart. The Lakitu will tell you not to hit the machine. Once it's destroyed, all four will battle Mario at once. Defeat them and they'll retreat. The sky clears and the sun once again rises into the sky. The plants of Flower Fields are thankful. Lakilester says helping people feels good, so he'll follow Mario around.

Return to Wise Wisterwood and he'll say to plant the Magical Bean in the nearby soil patch. The order is soil, bean, then water. The bean sprouts and the stalk spirals up to the clouds. Jump on the cloud to reach Cloudy Climb. Ride the cloud towards the back to reach a cloud with the Super Jump Charge badge. When you're fully healed and ready, go east. Go up the cloudy stairs and you'll see a lump in the clouds. It shakes and asks if Mario is who he thinks he is and if he broke a Puff Puff Machine. Mario ruined his plan to cover Flower Fields in clouds to make a paradise. He can't expect Mario to understand. If Lakilester is out, he'll notice him and says Lakilester has betrayed him and he will be punished. He has a Star Spirit that he refuses to give up. Huff N. Puff says that Mario will pay dearly. The battle starts.

Huff N. Puff has 60 HP and 5 attack power. His thunder attack does massive damage, but he has to charge it up. Use Outta Sight when you see him charge up. Each time he takes damage, Tuff Puffs appear from him, representing the amount of damage done. They ask permission to attack Mario and it is granted. They'll crowd Mario, doing damage until he can fill the meter by repeatedly pressing (A). He can also inhale them, effectively negating any damage you did, so don't leave them on the field for long. Use attacks that hit all enemies, like Spiny Surge, to clear them out, which is especially effective after using a move like Power Bounce. Some more Tuff Puffs will appear because you hit Huff N. Puff, but he can't heal as much. Huff N. Puff also has a wind attack. Press (A) repeatedly to fill the meter as much as you can so you only take 2 or 3 HP worth of damage. Keep attacking and you'll eventually defeat him. You'll get 31 SP. Huff N. Puff says he can't lose before exploding into smaller clouds. The Star Spirit's card appears.

End of Chapter
So it is that Mario and party defeat cruel cloud Huff N. Puff and set free the sixth Star Spirit. The thick clouds that once cast dark shadows have gone, and Flower Fields is bathed in sunshine again. A single Star Spirit waits to be rescued, waits to take its place in the Star Sanctuary. Perhaps you will see Princess Peach soon... Perhaps... Just wait and see. Kammy Koopa, who watches impatiently from Bowser's Castle, is waiting, too... for you to try to save them...

Paper Mario: Chapter 6 -- Dark Days in Flower Fields -- Part 1

Mario has arrived in Flower Fields. A voice asks who he is. The giant tree is talking to him. The gate to Flower Fields is part of him. He is the Wise Wisterwood, the oldest tree in Flower Fields. He knows of Mario's quest and says the Star Spirit may be here. Unfortunately, Flower Fields is in trouble. Huff N. Puff invaded recently and brought many clouds to the sky. It's been dark and cloudy ever since, because the sun doesn't rise. The plants here are weak and fading. Huff N. Puff took a Star Spirit captive. Mario says he'll defeat Huff N. Puff. Wise Wisterwood says that Huff N. Puff is in the sky, on Cloudy Climb. Mario can't reach him without a Magical Bean or something that grows high. A flower named Petunia may have a Magical Bean, so Mario should find her. She is due east of here.

Where Wise Wisterwood is, there are six paths out of the area. Go due east first to find Petunia. You'll encounter Crayzee Dayzees, enemy flowers with 8 HP and 4 attack power. They will sing, which can hurt Mario or make him fall asleep. Guard when they're done singing, meaning when no more musical notes appear. They may run away if their HP gets low. They give 2 SP. Also in the area is a bee called a Bzzap! Some of them hide in trees. They have 3 HP, but 6 attack power. They can sting Mario, which may poison him, or send a swarm of smaller bees to attack individually, in quick succession. This may shrink Mario. They give 2 SP.

Go east and the music will become intense. There are several Monty Moles in the area, around an angry flower. This is Petunia. Talk to her and she'll tell you that there's no sun, so she doesn't have any energy. She's starting to droop and the Monty Moles are biting her roots. If they aren't stopped, they'll eat her seed collection. She asks Mario to get rid of them. These ones have 12 HP and 3 attack power. They still just throw rocks. They give 2 SP. There are 4 of them. There's also a Crayzee Dayzee behind the tree, but you don't have to deal with it. Once you defeat all of the Monty Moles, Petunia will give you the Magical Bean. She says not to plant it (even though the description says it's twitching as if to say "plant me right now!"). As a seed, it can enjoy freedom. It can't move once it's been planted. So, Mario definitely shouldn't add Fertile Soil and Miracle Water to it and plant it. Hit the tree in the area to get some Red Berries. Keep at least one in your inventory. To the left of Petunia is a hidden panel with a Star Piece. Return to Wise Wisterwood, then go southwest.

There's a red flower guarding a gate. He won't let Mario through, but he can be bribed with something delicious. Give him a Red Berry and he'll open the gate. Here, you'll find Ruff Puffs, small clouds that will attack you. They have 10 HP, 4 attack power and give 2 Star Points. Hit the green tree for a couple of Yellow Berries. Keep at least one in your inventory. Go west. There's a flower by a Crystal Tree. Her name is Posie and she has a long nose due to the fertile soil in the area. She gives some to Mario. Return to Wise Wisterwood and go southeast.

There's a yellow flower guarding the gate here. Give him a Yellow Berry and he'll open the gate. There are thorny vines here, so be careful. Jump over the vines, then have Parakarry help you cross the larger gaps. There are many Crayzee Dayzees here, and rarely, you'll find an Amazy Dayzee. They are yellow and sparkly, and will try to run away from you. If you managed to engage them in battle, they have 20 HP, 20 attack power, and 1 defense power. Most of the time, they will runaway instead of attacking, so the attack power isn't much of a concern. If you want to challenge it at this point, equip badges that will give Mario powerful attacks. If Mario and his party member can do a total of 20 HP worth of damage on their first turns, you'll be okay. Otherwise, you'll have to get lucky and hope the Amazy Dayzee attacks instead of running away so you can attack again. It's worth it, though. Defeating the Amazy Dayzee will give you about 42 SP. This particular area is a great place to find them. To keep finding them, leave to the east and return until you see one to the left of the tree. It can also appear on the ledge to the left, but it's easier to deal with near the tree. Hit the tree for Blue Berries. To the right of the tree is a Star Piece hidden in the flowers. If you are in good shape in terms of health and flower points, you may battle the Dayzees on the ledge. There's a Super Block to the far left. I upgraded Bow. Go east.

There's a drained pool here. Drop down into the pool and get out using the stairs, then go east. There's another pool here, with a flower sitting at the bottom. Her name is Lily and she's throwing a pity party. The spring went dry because Huff N. Puff took the Water Stone. Water flows from this stone and fills the pool. She needs water to recover or else she'll wither. She hopes for a handsome prince to rescue her. She then sees Mario. She says to herself he looks more like a plumber than a prince, but won't be choosy. She asks him to retrieve the Water Stone. Hit the tree in the area for a Jammin' Jelly. Return to Wise Wisterwood, then go due west.

There's a blue flower here who'll open the gate if you give him a Blue Berry. You'll find Lakitus and Spinies here. The Spinies are the ones you'll have to deal with. They have 5 HP, 4 attack power and 3 defense power. Flip them to reduce their defense power to zero or use Watt's Electro Dash. They will roll up and slam Mario. They give 2 SP. While in the area, do not break the brick block near the spring. Have Watt reveal two invisible blocks, one of which is directly above the brick block. Use the spring to land on the invisible block after you hit it, then jump to the brick block. Hit the invisible block above it for a Shooting Star. Go west.

There are a couple of Lakitu here looking for something. They lost the Water Stone, which they need for the Puff Puff Machine. They notice Mario and start a fight. They have 12 HP and 3 attack power. They throw Spiny Eggs at Mario or onto the ground. The ones on the ground become Spinies. The Lakitu give 2 SP each. In the area is a hedge maze that can be tricky to navigate. You can walk around in the low hedges and pass through parts of the tall hedges. Your goal is to reach the pipe in the middle. To do so, enter the hedges, walk north, cut through the tall hedges and walk west until you're north of a section of low hedges that run due south. Go south through the tall hedges and then go east. You should be near the center pipe. Approach the center pipe from the east, going through the tall hedges. The pipe will take you to the west exit. Go back into the hedges from the west side to reach a brick block with many coins, then go west.

There's a flower here, a Rose Spirit named Rosie. She's upset that she's in full bloom and no one's there to admire her beauty. She shows off the Water Stone the Lakitu dropped. Mario wants the Water Stone badly. Mario explains the situation and Rosie is not sympathetic. The Water Stone is hers. She says Lily competes with her in beauty and wouldn't mind if Lily was gone. She will only part with it if Mario brings her something more beautiful.

Go back to Posie (southwest of Wise Wisterwood). Posie says Rosie's a little self-involved. Posie says her roots are connected to the roots of the Crystal Tree, so she can shake the roots to make a Crystal Berry appear, in an unladylike manner. Take the Crystal Berry to Rosie, who happily casts aside the ugly Water Stone. She says to let Lily know that it was she who saved her. Take the Water Stone to Lily and put it in the center of the pool. Water flows from the stone, filling the pool with water. Lily is happy and gives Mario the Miracle Water. She says to get the sun in the sky again. Go west and swim in the pool in this area with Sushie to reach the blue tree. Hit it to make Bubble Berries fall from it. Go back to Wise Wisterwood and save.
