Hyrule Warriors Direct -- 8/4/2014

In Hyrule Warriors, you can use flashy moves to battle solo on the field, but you're not always alone. Other Hylian soldiers as well as other Zelda characters are on the field battling and everyone's objectives will continuously change. Simple combo attacks will work on some enemies, but other will require some strategy, such as locking onto to enemies and waiting for an opening. Many gameplay elements are based on elements from the Zelda series. On the map, enemies are red and allies are blue. Squares on the map are keeps. Storm an enemy keep and defeat all the enemies to gain control over that keep, so you'll have more soldier bases. Controlling keeps is a good strategy for your army. Once a stage is completed, you'll get Rupees, see your score, and get items.

There are many items from the Zelda series, including the Hookshot, bombs, bow and arrows, and  boomerang. Certain enemies are more easily defeated with certain items.

Cuccos appear in the game and they will get angry if you attack them. They can be used as allies.

Many characters will appear on the battlefield. Link is a soldier training to defend Hyrule Castle and uses one-handed swords, such as the Hylian Sword. Zelda can use a Rapier and Light arrows. Impa is an advisor of Zelda and has a Giant Blade. Sheik uses a Harp and martial arts. Darunia, leader of the Gorons, uses a Hammer and brute force. Princess Ruto uses Zora Scale and can change the ground into water to attack or move quickly. Midna, in her imp form, uses her hair to grab, throw, and punch enemies. Agitha uses her Parasol and attacks with insects. Zant is also playable, swinging the scimitars on his hands and growing to giant size. Fi uses the Goddess Blade and can transform into a sword. Ghirahim is playable, but also is an enemy. He uses a variety of sword attacks. Ganondorf is a playable character, using a Great Sword. New characters include Lana, Sorceress of Light, who uses a Book of Sorcery to create magic walls she can move to damage enemies.

You can cut grass in the game to find helpful items.

Characters can unlock new items, such as the Fire Rod, Deku Spear, Summoning Gate, Naginata and Wind Waker. Each character has special attacks to defeat many enemies at once. Focus Spirit by filling your magic meter, which will increase your abilities.

Bomb Chus are much larger with even larger explosions.

Stages include Skyloft, Hyrule Field, Lake Hylia, and Twilight Field.

Chain Chomps make an appearance as weapon, similar to a ball-and-chain.

Characters gain experience and level up when you use them. Certain enemies drop certain materials for crafting badges to enhance characters' stats. New weapons may be acquired in battle and some have skills, such as increased damage or increased probability of finding hearts. They can be fused with other weapons to increase their skills. More difficult battles have increased probability of dropping weapons.

The Moon from Majora's Mask can be used to crush enemies when it is grabbed with the Hookshot.

Adventure mode takes place on a grid-like map. Each square is a stage with its own victory contidions. Clear the stage to unlock an adjacent stage and get rare items and items you can't find elsewhere. Use the search functions to find hidden items. New characters may appear.

Gold Skulltulas make an appearance. They hide in odd locations, but make a special sound so you can track them down.

In 2-player co-op, there will be no split-screen. One player gets the Game Pad screen and the other gets the TV. Screen resolution will drop slightly in 2-player co-op. Off-TV Mode for single-player is an option.

The game will be released September 26 in 2014. There will be a Demon King costume set for Club Nintendo members. Other costume sets are available including sets from Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess, and Skyward Sword.
